This one apparently flew under the radar, but is awesome nonetheless! A concept artist for the My Little Pony Movie slapped up a bunch of his early work on the project over on Tumblr. This includes the badass original idea for a Storm King minion up above.
Apparently these never made it into the Art of the My Little Pony Movie book (which you should also check out since it's pretty damn awesome).
I've put a few below the break, including some alternate Storm King designs and Tempest Shadow expressions, but you can find the full list over on his Tumblr.

As of today, the My Little Pony movie is officially available for anyone wanting to own a physical copy of it. It should start flooding stores either today, or over the course of the next few days and is already available online in the usual multiple formats.
According to Box Office Mojo it eventually hit 52 million worldwide. We will have to wait until Hasbro's next investor call to find out how well the physical and digital releases work out.
Thanks to Dalvyn for the reminder.

The ridiculously elusive Twilight Vs. Tempest Shadow figure has officially stocked up over on Amazon. She has been in and out of Gamestop for about a month now, but in very limited stock of only a few at a time.
Hopefully this means the rest of the recent GoH figures will pop up soon too!
Get her over here.

The Guardians of Harmony Captain Celeano toy was spotted a few days ago over on eBay, and someone decided to order it to get the details. Apparently she's a Walmart exclusive in the USA, so if you planned on buying one, expect to find her there pretty soon. With past GOH toys, it was only a few weeks from reveal that we saw them flood store shelves. Hopefully Fluttershy joins her.
Get a bunch of pictures of the set below!

Another My Little Pony Movie Guardians of Harmony fan series figure has been spotted, combining Spike with Celeano and a treasure chest. She has a few different accessories that can be mixed and match, including hat and skirt.
Get more images of it below! Hopefully we see this one hit stores soon with the Fluttershy that appeared in Thailand last week.

I'm surprised these haven't already flooded the states. Seems like a missed opportunity now that the MLP Movie hype is dead.
A pirate version of Fluttershy was found in Thailand, joining the Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Twilight, and Pinkie Pie Guardians of Harmony lineup. Hopefully she makes the jump to the USA soon, but for now I personally haven't gotten any emails about her appearing in US Walmarts yet, where she will most likely be exclusive like the others.
Expect a second post if she does appear.
Thanks to Kids and Fun Shop and Eclipsed Flame for the heads up.

If digital isn't your thing, the My Little Pony Movie is now available for pre-order over on Amazon. Unlike the shout factory DVD's, we did get some blu-ray this time. I don't think anyone doubted that though.
The release date is officially January 9th. Have some links to go pre-order:
DVD
Blu-Ray/DVD Combo (January 9)
Digital Version (December 19th)

Another in the line of bank figures has been release at Target, dedicated this time to Sia's Songbird Serenade from the movie. Like the last ones, you can unscrew a bottom piece to get your money out.
She was $14, and seems to be in some stores, but not others.

Thanks to Lucas for the heads up.

A list of films that have qualified to be considered for nomination in the category of Best Animated Feature has been released for the Oscars and apparently the MLP: Movie has not been qualified.
As this is a list of films eligible for nomination, it's quite possible Lionsgate/Hasbro didn't submit the film for Best Animated Feature as the movie does seem to meet the requirements qualify it.
We'll let you all know if there are any updates as we learn more!
Thanks to DrForester for the heads up!

The movie Guardians of Harmony flood hasn't ended yet, with Captain Celaeno popping up on a random shop over on Chinese sales website Taobao. These guys have been somewhat quiet for a while now, but Hasbro's factories tend to be relatively leaky, and this is probably a case of that.
Usually this means we can expect to see them in a few months.
Get the back of the box below.

Can you believe it has already been three weekends since the MLP Movie was released? In that short period of time the movie has since been making its rounds and pulling in a rather impressive take world wide! As of this weekend's number when combining both US box office and Foreign box office, the movie has made over $35 million!
With about $18.5 million in the States and $17.2 million overseas the movie looks like it should be able to certainly make its money back at the box office considering the range of estimates for the budget ranging from $6-$8 million up to $25 million dollars, leaving only the higher estimates yet to be overtaken. Of course those estimates don't account for the marketing budget for the film but considering what we saw for advertising for the film I speculate it wasn't too much.
Even if the movie doesn't make its money back at the box office, it certainly will when it gets released to DVD and Blu-Ray and as toys for the movie are bought up for Christmas and beyond.

This is the first time I've heard him called "Capper Dapperpaws", but I tend to miss stuff like that. We have a bunch of new brushables over on Amazon, along with some updated listings. Some are in stock, most are out.
Go get them all below!

We are about two weeks past the big release of the My Little Pony movie, and now that the hype train is starting to settle down, it's time to look back at it. When we asked for ideas a few days ago during the Q&A, a lot of people wanted some opinions on what some of us blog dudes thought.
I've been talking to people pretty much everywhere about it since seeing it, and have shifted opinions all over the place since then. So, without further adieu, my final verdict on the My Little Pony Movie below!
(Definitely filled with spoilers, you have been warned!)

Tempest Shadow has had an insane amount of awesome artwork done of her ever since her big reveal way back months ago. A lot of people were avoiding spoilers, so lets grab the best of it for them! Time to build those collections!
Below the break, get 96 of the best drawings of her to celebrate our newest, edgy horse villain.
And expect a regular art post after this one.

According to Box Office Mojo, as of yesterday, the My Little Pony Movie has hopped up to the 15 million mark in the states. This joins a healthy 10 million figure for foreign sales. Considering the budget and marketing didn't seem to be overly extravagant for Hasbro's first big pony break, it's not doing badly at all.
A lot of factors will play into how successful Hasbro considers the movie to be. Luckily, a large chunk of their change comes from sales of toys and eventually the Blu-Ray once it drops. There is a reason why we have seen so many straight-to-dvd offerings coming out of the company. This sort of merchandise is an easy impulse purchase for a mom strolling through Target looking for something to keep her kids busy for a few hours.
The movie remains in theaters for the near future, so we will get an update once the box office numbers have officially concluded. We don't have actual budgeting numbers outside of a few very unreliable leaks, but so far things look to be going well.
Thanks to Christopher for the heads up.
Update: BoxOfficeMojo corrected their foreign, saying that pony so far has only brought in $4 million or so in foreign markets. We'll have to wait to see how well the foreign markets have done unfortunately.

Box office estimates are now in from movie studios as we exit the first weekend for the MLP Movie. Despite some high predictions from other sites which I believe were based on online ticket sales, it looks like the movie will settle at $8.8 million for the weekend, taking 4th place behind IT, The Mountain Between Us, and Blade Runner.
While not as high as we expected, this showing still beats out other animated films released by Lionsgate in the past. Depending on the legs of the movie I expect we'll see a 30%-50% drop in ticket sales next weekend.
Full breakdown below!
-
The movie continues to chug along through the weekend, and we have a host of review sites, newspapers, and big name Youtubers tossing their opinions on it into the mix. While it seems like a good majority of them fall into the positive category keeping us at around 58% on rotten tomatoes, we still have a few negative ones thrown into the mix.
I'm noticing a trend of negatives primarily coming from people that immediately jump to the movie being a toy commercial and base their entire review on that. It's an understandable argument, but it would be nice if they would judge it on it's merits rather than what it's end-goal is.
Anyway, you can find them all below. We will update this as more come in, so feel free to send them to the submit box.

As the weekend begins we have some more news on how the movie itself is doing that you all might be interested in! According to BoxOfficeMojo, the MLP Movie has received an A- CinemaScore! If you haven't heard of CinemaScore this is good news as the polling agency asks moviegoers directly how they would score the film so this means that audiences liked it.
In other news, Friday box office estimates are in with the Movie coming in 3rd place with just shy of $3 million. This sets it on track to break BoxOfficeMojo's estimate it couldn't make over $9 million, but comes on the low end of predictions we posted yesterday. After this weekend we'll have to see how it holds up during the week and, more importantly, in its second weekend after I assume most of us have seen it (I know I went to see it yesterday).
