Journey of the Spark Ends Production as Animated Film, Resumes as Audio Drama

News has been going around that the Journey of the Spark has run into problems and has ceased production completely. Unfortunately some of the rumor is true according to a new post by the production group behind the animation. While work on the animation itself will be halted, the film will instead be converted over to an audio drama. So while the film itself will never be, at least we are getting the story in some form.

Story Updates - September 16th

Not a lot of story updates coming in.  I blame school.  Have two of them for once! Both below.

Article showing similarities between MLP And High Fantasy Series

 For anyone who loves to talk about high fantasy series, Den of Geek has written the article for you. They're looking at all the different fantasy elements of MLP and how they compare to other well known, more "serious" fantasy series. It's really cool to see how the different ideas can be used in so many ways.

 They do a really good job showing how the lighter ideas MLP uses have been used in darker series. For example the article mentions things like how the Windigoes could fit in nicely with Game of Thrones and their Winter woes. It also points out some interesting similarities between our equine friends and Lord of the Rings. Applejack as Sam anyone?

 The article gets into more obscure series too, including mentions of The Belgariad, which in case you've never read it, is one of those classic high fantasy series that you could use as weights.

 If you've ever wanted to know more about fantasy elements this is the article for you. It might also help folks who are worried MLP is too superficial as this really does point out the deeper aspects.

Discovery and Hasbro End Partnership of The Hub

News has come out from the Wall Street Journal of Hasbro ending it's partnership with Discovery over The Hub network. Under the new agreements, Discovery will have controlling interests of The Hub and will rebrand the network the Discovery Family Network. This change can be expected as early as the 4th quarter. Hasbro will still have a large amount of influence over the company, controlling six hours of programming from 9am to 3pm.

The Wall Street Journal muses that while Hasbro's involvement with the network is expected to decline it is also possible that other outlets, like Cartoon Network, might be approached to host their programming.

Sydneigh 2014 Convention Cancelled

It's with a heavy heart that today we must bring you some sadder convention news. Sydneigh 2014 over in Australia has been canceled due to a number of unfortunate events that warranted closing down the event.

Last night we had a tweet by Meghan McCarthy congratulating the writers on a job well done for season 5. While some of the abbreviations were straight forward some were a bit mysterious. Now one of those mysterious names has come forth: Neal Dusedau! His main credit rolls according to IMDb are on Fish Hooks and Johnny Test. Sounds like we're getting a lot of writers from Fish Hooks on the show this season!
