ReplyDeleteThis was my favorite Happy Luna fiction. Managing to combine humor and references to the pilot, all together a very good read.

I'd like to use profanity to describe how much I like this story, but, I'll just say it was very, very good.
ReplyDeleteI liked Luna's epiphany with the Elements of Harmony, the Brave Captain's thought processes, inside Pinkie Pie's head, the guest appearances, and the Clone High reference, (John Dark?)
Also, Pinkie Pie, being Pinkie, derailing Luna's revenge train of thought.
Also the satire of "tradition" with the Lunar Guards. Guard. (haw-haw!)

Jabberwocky reference! Steven Magnet cameo! Action! Adventure! Love! (Love?) COMEDY! This is a perfect storm of hilarity and dearly deserves that rating.

ReplyDeleteYou know I already commented but I just remembered why I almost felt Bucephalus felt familiar. Have you read Good Omens? Because I swear Bucephalus reminds me of Witchfinder Sergent Shadwell what with being the last of a long "distinguished" company of soldiers. Oh and once again Bucephalus to the fore!

ReplyDeleteAmazing story! Read it in the happy fic post but it really does need its own spot! The entire scene of Pinkie waking up was simply spectacular! And I am sure everyone has experienced that feeling when their own Three Names get dropped!

My only complaint was that a Whitman reference could have been thrown in at multiple points. But hay, I'm being nitpicky, and that was a fantastic tale!

ReplyDeleteThere were a few (3-4) typos and missing words when I read it but nothing that could prevent me from making sense of the sentence they were in. Maybe those are fixed now, so that doesn't even matter.
It's a great story and I could totally see that as a Luna episode in S2. It's short enough that I think 22 minutes is plenty of time to tell it in moving pictures form. All that is perhaps missing is some form of friendship report (Which would be written/said by Luna for her sister I would think.)
I really enjoyed this story, I hope to see more work from you Cloud. I also hope to see more of Bucephalus (Still not a 100% sure how to pronounce that)I really enjoyed his scene in the amusement park (Also ponies and water slides, Yay)

Beautiful story, I loved it. It was a nice change from all the sad stories I've read lately. Now I need more happy Luna stories!

ReplyDeleteFor those of you who don't know this already, Bucephalus is named after Alexander the Great's horse. The historical Bucephalus even had a city named after him!
The name "Bucephalus" means "ox-headed", which inspired my take on the character. When in doubt, put your head down and charge!
@MobyD: While I didn't have Good Omens in mind, yes, I did think of Captain Bucephalus as a Terry Pratchett-style character (maybe a bit like Captain Carrot Ironfoundersson, particularly in his original Guards! Guards! presentation).
@Colgate55: Walt Whitman? Were you thinking along the lines of "Do I contradict myself? Very well, then I contradict myself, I am large, I contain multitudes." If not, could you enlighten me with your reference?
As for Happy Luna: I really hope that Season 2 will see her happy and among friends. I don't think My Little Pony requires a resident "Gargamel" to be interesting or exciting.

... Well, I was an interesting AND enjoyable read :). Luna was nicely portrayed in the story. And, I found interesting that one of the small detail from the begining looped and came to ''conclusion'' near the end (the ''Am I/Will I be kindness, loyalty, etc... tonight?'') ...

I find most Luna stories tend to end in some dark place. This however, dealt with all that Luna would face from the treat of Nightmare Moon but still made me laugh. This is truly one of the best stories I have read. Well done.

ReplyDeleteLoved how Bucephalus (to the fore!) wasn't just portrayed as a crazed soldier, but actually had some sense in him, especially towards the end.
The story had me laughing openly throughout, it's surely one of the funniest I've read here. Simple concept, brilliant execution. All of my love <3

ReplyDeleteI got that major Pratchett vibe from Bucephalus (actually from the whole story!), and I loved that he lives up to his name. I always wondered if Alex The Great's horse was just named that or if he really was a total mule. Metaphorically.
