• Yoyo game links banned

Alright I'm done with Yoyo Games. I thought they screened their stuff... but I guess not.

Yoyo games, or any other plugin requiring game site is now banned, so don't send them.

DA/newgrounds/other sites that don't require a download are perfectly fine.

I apologize to everyone that was exposed to the Luna.  The person that made it says he/she sent it to someone else to get some feedback and she/he got that back.

    3. You've earned my trust again. At first, I thought you were just trying to scar us with a really bad prank. But I see now that you really are an honest guy.

      Thank you seth.

    4. Wasn't all that disturbing. I'm more annoyed that I expected platformer and got Demon Pie.

    5. Guess I missed it, lol. What exactly was it about the Luna game tha was wrong?

      ReplyDelete
    6. @Anonymous Hmm, I dl'd and played it, but I didn't get any of that. Just an unplayable game and creepy applebloom.

    7. ._.
It wasn't a malicious program, and most definitely NOT a virus, but to the guy who made it:

Yeah, I know that you're going to read this.

      Dick. Move.

      I'm watching you.

It was just some retarded screamer.

      ReplyDelete
    9. @FightingFire

It was actually sent from the same guy that trixie'd the wikipedia page, so I didn't really worry about it too much.

    10. WHOA! And I actually went and clicked on the link! I was that close but decided that I should probably finish my homework first.

Thanks, man. Phew, dodged a bullet there...

When you start it off. It seems like a pretty solid game. You're just Luna jumping around and stuff. But then, you get to a certain point. You become flashed with a really creepy picture of applebloom with some really creepy noises. You can't close out of it either. I had to do an emergency shut off on my computer to get out of it.

I know. I knew, actually. I have already told him what a dick move it was, and that's why I knew he would get the message.

But still, yoyo games wasn't the issue, just him.

      ReplyDelete
    13. I'm sorry, but I found it kind of hilarious.

I already regret deleting it, since YoYo Games removed the download link from their site. I kind of wanted to get my brother with this.

    14. I got the creepy applebloom and then my firewall was all like "This program is trying to send mouse events to another program" and I'm all like "Thanks firewall, for reminding me why I set you up to bug me for things like that".

    15. @Naxts
I was able to open Windows Task Manager via AltCtrlDel.
From there, using the arrow keys to select Luna Game and pressing Tab to hit End Process got me out of it.

    16. Well, gotta wonder why it wasn't tested before put on the page.

      Just saiyan.

we need a pony-roll but demon pinkie pie...not demon pinkie pie is pretty good someone go upload this to youtube.

    18. @FightingFire

It wasn't the issue, but I'm guessing it kinda shows how sketchy Yoyogames games can be in general. If this happened, who knows what else could. And that's why Seth's done with them.

      ReplyDelete
    19. Just woundering, am I the only one who got the spam problem?

Look in the folder you ran your "Luna Game.exe" from. Unless you ran it online or something. It freaked me out at least.

      ReplyDelete
    20. So, what was this all about? I didn't get to download the plug-in, or see the site, so, I'm kinda lost here...

      ReplyDelete
    21. Wow...now I'm kind of glad that Yoyo games DOESN'T work on my computer.

Who knew my outdated drivers would do something nice for me, eh?

      ReplyDelete
    22. To anyone who wants to see what it was like, don't even bother. Just don't. At first it was just a simple side-scroller where one moves Luna across a world covered in boxes. Then, after a set amount of time, it would stop being so nice. It would stop being so simple. Either an image of a creepy, murderous Applebloom would pop up (with accompanying creepy music) or a "ZALGO-fied" Pinkie Pie would appear, along with the music, but would fill up your desktop with that same image and countless text files that read "the end is neigh" if you couldn't close it fast enough. Nothing more interesting than that.

Seriously, fans get all kinds of neat easy-drag-and-click tools to make games to share with fans, and they spend their time making scareware?
Yeah, I can't blame you for banning the links.

Though Flash isn't exactly free of exploits, either.

      ReplyDelete
    40. I dont see what all the hype was about this, it was easy enough to close, and even so it didn't even really do anything other than save a few pictures of the creepy pinkie pie.

Pretty funny joke if you ask me

      ReplyDelete
    41. If somepony who has it would be so kind as to record playing it and put it on YT, that would be awesome.

    47. Shit, how am I supposed to get my RPG out to people now?

      Hm... perhaps it's worth some actual testers. I didn't know you could do that sort of thing through Game Maker! Holy crap! o.o;

      ReplyDelete
    48. @Neon Noble

Well, I'm sure you can work something out with Sethisto, given enough testers/trustworth people running it..
      I'm sure something will work.

      ReplyDelete
    49. @Anonymous

I hope so! I know I'm not cruel enough to even consider distributing a virus like that... ugh, it gives me shivers thinking about that stuff.

And anyway,t here's nothing to show yet, so I'm sure time will help.

      ReplyDelete
    50. Wait, does this mean all Gamemaker made games are banned, or just upload it on a different hosting site?

      ReplyDelete
    51. @Anonymous

He did mention anything that must be downloaded, which is what worries me.

      ReplyDelete
    52. I kinda want to open it...but I'm scared
      should I open it?

      ReplyDelete
    53. @Neon Noble

There never was any actual virus.
The program just took a bunch of screenshots and saved a few small text files.

      ReplyDelete
    54. @Anonymous

Oh. Well, still, it's not a very nice thing to do >.>

      ReplyDelete
    55. @Neon Noble

I agree completely, but it IS a huge relief to know it wasn't actually dangerous.

Sooooo what is this RPG you've got?
Got a WIP version, or video of some sort I can check out?

      ReplyDelete

No WIP version or video is around yet since the engine's barely been started. HOWEVER, I HAVE been working on the sprites. =3

The program "Game Maker 8". I'm making the engine from scratch, like the sprites, because that's how I roll.

      ReplyDelete
    61. @Neon Noble

      Ahhhhh!
I'm making my own game from scratch in Game Maker 8 as well!
It's a platoformer World builder thing, not pony related though.
You want another programmer for the team?

      ReplyDelete
    62. @AnonymousHmmm... this will be perfect to test my coms security. I built it to be ridiculously powerful, and I've been itching to find something to test it's limits without causing permanent damage.

      ReplyDelete
    63. @Anonymous

I'm perfectly confident in my abilities of screwing up and then figuring out what went wrong so I can fix it, but if I ever DO need additional help, I'll make sure to make a shout-out. =3

    65. a) Programs like this are commonly called "trojans" or "trojan horses" because you have to actively drag them inside your city walls i.e. run them on your computer, they can't spread like a virus. I would then liken them to prions, which behave the same way in real life, as they are proteins which must be ingested and expressed by a cell to do damage.

      b) THIS is why I didn't download anything from YoYo. I have a STRONG distrust for anything that SHOULD be just run from within a browser "corral" like Flash, such as a simple pony game, but requires you to download a plugin. I don't want anything like that that can affect actual files on my computer (beyond what Flash allows a game to save by default, which can't go outside its little sandbox).

      ReplyDelete
    66. Ironically, people were laughed at for being skeptical at these yoyogames plugins and then something like this happens.

      ReplyDelete
    67. @Alfador

      I believe you are mistaken
This is a program created using Game Maker, and it merely saves a few screenshots in game.

It has no malicious executions, and doesn't actually touch any files.

      ReplyDelete
    68. I must be a sucker for punishment. DLing for lulz later.

      ReplyDelete
    69. Well. Unfortunately not enough to creep me out, but interesting.

Too bad no more download games...That "Way Home" thing was okay.

      ReplyDelete
    70. 1. You don't need the plugin to play the games.

      2. The games on YoYo are created with Game Maker, which is actually quite powerful. Therefore, it can do simple things any C-Program can do, too: Delete files, change registry keys.

=> Banning the site is a bit harsh, but I agree that Yoyo does not check their games much.
On the other hand however, it's the same risk that is involved with any other kind of executable.

I'm guessing you just need a new screener (or ten) before posting those games instead of banning these things automatically (There have been some really great fan games that required more than what the browser currently offers). But then it might take at best a day before any new game is uploaded online.

Or just ban executables all together to prevent total destruction while browser-based games can still call home and do the same kind of damage.
