  • Ponies Around the World 2014 - Day 5

    by Sethisto

Ponies Ponies Ponies around the world.  I'm not seeing  a lot of Trixie representation here. Surely Funko Trixie was the top pony seller for last year? You all have one right?

Today we hit the 500 mark, with a lot more city shots than the last few.  I guess whatever time this submission period was just happened to be a time when people were visiting the sprawling concrete jungles of the world.

468 Way of the Cross - Our Lady of Lourdes Grotto - richfiles

My little herd, chillaxin' round the grotto, bein' in tune with nature, & smellin' the flowers! So lush and green! Flowers and beautiful hand laid rock are everywhere! A most relaxing experience! The Way of the Cross is run by the Catholic Diocese of New Ulm. Finished in 1904, it was built by the Sisters of the Order of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, who ran the Loretto Hospital & St. Alexander Home. Basically, a hundred years ago, a bunch of nuns dug a path on the side of a hill, hauled tons of rock & brick in wheelbarrows up said hill, and hand built everything! Must have been a sight! The 15 fully painted sculptures, depicting the "Stations of the Cross", were imported from Bavaria, Germany. They are housed in brick arches, with stone accents & concrete pillars. At the mid point is a beautiful grotto & at the end is a small chapel. Regardless of belief, it's a beautiful path, out of the way, yet accessible. It is painted in nature's palette of flowers and stones.
469 The Apple Family Midwest Vacation: Purdue - Seth Brodbeck

470 Pinkie Pie in Atlantic City, NJ - HorizonsBound

471 Ponies and Dinosaurs - HorizonsBound

Ponies at the marker for a Hadrosaurus Foulkii. This was were the first nearly complete dinosaur skeleton was discovered in Haddonfield, NJ.
472 Applejack and Big Mac at the BOK - Austin Comix Inc.

First off, sorry about the image quality. My camera is worn out, and I never knew about the lens crack until after I shot all of my pictures that day. Anyway, here is Applejack and Big McIntosh standing in front of the Bank of Oklahoma Center, or BOK Center for short. The BOK Center is a 19,199-seat arena located in Tulsa, Oklahoma used to host a multitude of sports, concerts, and special events. Everything from football tournaments to monster truck competitions happen under the roof of this glistening Oklahoma icon. There's even a horse show going on at the end of August this year. It's the perfect place for a pair of hard-working competitive farm ponies to find some quality entertainment after a long day's work.
    473 Pony Alcove - HorizonsBound

So this is actually 60 ft under the ice on the South Pole. I constructed this alcove which will last, provided nobody messes with it, longer than we will. Whilst I took this picture last year, it was in preparation for this event. So does South Pole ice count as a landmark?
474 Octavia at Cain's Ballroom - Austin Comix Inc.

Again, sorry about the image quality. Here is Octavia, standing on the hood of my 1964 Mercury Comet, at Cain's Ballroom. Cain's Ballroom is a historical music venue located in Tulsa, Oklahoma that has been around since its construction in 1924. Originally built as a garage for W. Tate Brady, one of the founders of Tulsa, it was soon bought by Madison W. "Daddy" Cain and opened to the public as a dance academy and event gathering, then called "Cain's Dance Academy." It hosted a variety of bands, ranging in genre from jazz, rag, blues, country, and many others. It even became the site of The Texas Playboys' first regular radio broadcast in 1934. After going dark in the late 1960s, Cain's was soon revived as "Cain's Ballroom" when Larry Schaeffer bought the building in 1976. It is now a popular Oklahoma historic landmark, where it continues to host a multitude of events and concerts.
475 There aren't any sea ponies... - Austin Comix Inc.

...but there is a big blue whale. Specifically, the Blue Whale of Catoosa, a roadside attraction located in Catoosa, Oklahoma, just off historic Route 66. It was originally built by Hugh Davis in the early 1970s as an anniversary present for his wife, Zelta, who collected whale figurines. The whale and its pond quickly became a popular swimming hole for locals and travelers alike. It was closed to the public in 1988 when the family could no longer maintain it, and thus the attraction fell into disrepair. Nearly a decade later, the people of Catoosa and employees of the Hampton Inn put together a fund-raiser and volunteer effort to restore the Route 66 icon. Although it is no longer a swimming hole, it is still a popular stop along Route 66 where people can have picnics, go fishing, and have fun. Even Lyra seems to be having fun.
476 South Pole Bronycon - HorizonsBound

So probably the last of my South Pole pics to be submitted to these events, this was take before last year's Bronycon. That same little card was incorporated into the South Pole Pony alcove as well.
    477 - Tiny Sane

Greetings from MLK library San Jose, CA. Pic taken at SJSU. It's one of the biggest library in the Bay Area.
    478 - Shifty Mario

Greetings from SJSU, San Jose, CA. Pic taken at MLK library. Couldn't find a decent window to take the pic at.
479 Ponies at Mount Rainier National Park - FluttershyIsMagic

Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Spitfire, and Fluttershy along the Skyline Trail in mid-July. Mount Rainier is the tallest mountain (and volcano) in the Cascade Range, standing at 14,411 feet. It is also the most glaciated volcano in the Cascades, with more glacial mass than all other Cascade volcanoes combined.
    480 Gothic Skyscraper - Fogtrotter

Heartstrings family does have medieval origins, doesn't it? (See: The Lavender Letter fanfic - shipping perfected.) Here's a 13th-century town hall tower, 70 meters high. The roof is baroque, as the gothic one burned after being struck by lightning which also literally melted the tower's bell. The town hall itself (now demolished) hosted city council meetings for ca. 500 years.

481 Ponies at Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument - FluttershyIsMagic

Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Spitfire, and Fluttershy with Mount St. Helens in the background. This was taken at the Loowit Viewpoint along the Spirit Lake Highway during Sunrise.
482 Ponies and the rugged Tatoosh Range - FluttershyIsMagic

The Tatoosh Range is a prominent and distinct mountain range below Mount Rainier's south flank. Its highest peak is Unicorn Peak, at over 7,000 feet.
483 Applebloom in the St. Stephans Cathedral catacombs - CMC_Scootaloo

This photo was made in the catacombs under St. Stephans Cathedral in Vienna. It was quite challenging to make these photos down there, because of the bars and the quite short tour, so I hadn't enough time to make perfect photos. The skeletons behind Applebloom are a little hard to recognize due to that.
484 Willis Tower on South Wacker Drive - Vaum Digger

Rainbow Dash at the base of the tallest building in Chicago! It's 108 floors tall, but that won't stop her from reaching the top! Architecturally, the tower incorporates a tube bundle design invented by Fazlur Kahn, who also designed the John Hancock Center.
485 Applebloom in the St. Stephans Cathedral catacombs (2) - CMC_Scootaloo

This photo was again made in the catacombs under St. Stephan Cathedral, this time in front of one of the pestilence pits, where the dead bodies from people that died at the pestilence were thrown in during the plague epidemic in the 17th century. If you look closely, you can see a skull in the bottom right corner of the bars.
486 Derpy in the St. Stephans Cathedral catacombs - CMC_Scootaloo

Again made in the catacombs, this time with my Funko Derpy figure, that I just bought on June 28th. It was made at the same spot like my first entry with Applebloom, but I had to hurry when making it, so it didn't turn out great and is unfortunately too dark.
487 Applebloom on the St. Stephans Cathedral model - CMC_Scootaloo

This time not so scary, it shows Applebloom on the model of the St. Stephans Cathedral, that stands on the right side of the cathedral. It wasn't easy to make a good picture; since Applebloom is so small I couldn't make a photo of the whole model, so I had to zoom in a bit.
488 Ponies at Mount Adams Wilderness Area - FluttershyIsMagic

Mt Adams is the second largest volcano in the Northwest and the second highest mountain in Washington.
489 Steampunk Power Plant - Fogtrotter

Here's for all you Steampunk Lyra lovers out there. This building is a former power plant built in late nineteenth century to provide electricity to Slowacki Theatre (seen behind) and called "The Machinery House". The machinery was bought from a Prague company and constructed in Frankfurt am Main. It currently houses a "The Miniature Scene" of the theatre.
490 Fluttershy at Three Sisters Wilderness - FluttershyIsMagic

491 Willis Tower Skydeck South View - Vaum Digger

492 Willis Tower Skydeck North View - Vaum Digger

493 Willis Tower - The Ledge! - Vaum Digger

103 floors from the ground. 1,353 feet (412 meters) in the air. It would be frightening if Rainbow Dash wasn't a pegasus!
494 Rainbow Dash just got twenty percent cooler #1 - Starlight Flux

Rainbow Dash blind bag figure inside the Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice), the largest glacier in France. Rainbow Dash just got twenty percent cooler. There is also a video proof that this is not photoshoped here; http://youtu.be/9DgdSl1pb9s
495 Rainbow Dash at Mer de Glace (Sea of Ice) #1 - Starlight Flux

498 Derpy at the Cincinnati Museum - frogman675

The museum used to be a train station
499 Time for a spot of tea at Buckingham Palace, London - musical_porridge

    500 - Katosen27

Oh, look at that! The Doctor and his assistant, Ditzy Doo, have arrived in the late 1800's! On the dock's behind the duo is the whaling ship the Charles W. Morgan. It was in port a few months back in New London, CT shortly after it became seaworthy again. Currently, it is now traveling around on tour!
