I googled for an image of these two fighting, but all I found was FRIENDSHIP and MORE THAN FRIENDSHIP. Luckily the MLP wiki had this buried in there.
Another group is doing some Epic Pony Rap Battles, and this is their big debut! Their voice actors pretty much nailed the characters they are playing. Check it out after the break.

ReplyDeleteCriminy. Maybe it's just because I'm used to cute Fluttershy (though there needs to be more Flutterrage), but I think that she pretty much squashed RD. The Wonderbolts line and the "hush now"? Priceless.

ReplyDeleteCompared to the one created by Mic the Microphone--what is the holdup on the next one with his series anyway?--I didn't like this one all that much. Neither one of the voice actresses really got into their parts nearly as well...their voices were fairly spot on, sure, but without the enthusiasm it just didn't work.

ReplyDeleteVery impressive the VA doing RD pretty much nailed it with only slight deviation. Gotta give it to fluttershy though in the rap battle cause of the hush now, quiet now and Philomena reference.

ReplyDeleteThe Wonderbolt line was really good but I don't think Fluttershy is that good of a rapper. She's just not aggressive enough and I think Dash had her swagger and rhymes. But maybe I'm just prejuidiced in her favor. All in all, not bad but I liked Twilight vs Trixie better .

ReplyDeleteThe hold up is mostly me, I'm afraid. I haven't been motivated much at all this year... A lot has been happening, but I'm finally getting back in to the swing of things. I'm going to try and have it done by the end of March at the absolute latest, then strive to release one a month.
On the note of this particular Battle, I rather enjoyed it. Lyrically it had a level of cleverness that was simple and very effective. In addition to that, it lacked swearing (Which many of you are clearly happy with). The VAs were VERY good as well. Only thing I can say:
Strive to try and make everything from the ground up. Also practice staying on beat and trying not to force some of those lines.
Overall, good job!
@Sethisto @Pegasus Rescue Brigade - The lack of profanity may be a nice change, but the fact of the matter is that well used profanity can create a sense of anger and passion. Without it you need to step up your writing and find another way to express emotion. In this case they completely failed. After all this is a rap BATTLE. It's supposed to be an intense meeting of two different lyrical voices. Compare this to Mic's Trixie/Twi battle and you can clearly see the difference. Yes there was swearing, but there was also really emotional lyrics.

ReplyDeleteI don't personally think that they really have to sound all that angry with each other, snarky and slightly condescending are enough to do the job in some cases (such as this). Altogether, I very much enjoyed it.
Fluttershy was perfect...I couldn't figure out how she ever would have done a rap battle, but it was brilliant!

ReplyDeleteThe way I can see this improved is way more aggressive RD so it fits her personality at contrasts with the quiet Fluttershy, which in turn would make Fluttershy also look better when she doesn't even need to raise her voice to talk smack. I hope that in the future this is redone so they can have a proper rap battle.

ReplyDeleteWell, I think RD won. Why? To me, Shy's VA had a bit of a problem when trying to keep the pace of the rap and the rhymes. Also, her voice had a certain... lack of enthusiasm, in my opinion.

Neither one of the VA's sounded like the character, though Fluttershy's VA came a lot closer than Dash's. So I guess that's a victory for her.
