ReplyDeleteAll these sad Derpy comics and art make me wanna cry. I mean, sure, we lost a beloved fanon/canon opportunity, and the neigh-sayers won a round. But remember, we've won so many other rounds. And even so, we still kind of won this one, because Hasbro was very reluctant about it, and even when editing it, they made it of a less quality. It just goes to show, be careful what you wish for.

@Travis Smith the Shadowbolt I really don't consider Cupcakes to be horror, seeing how it isn't very scary at all. And I certainly do not dislike the story. It's just that it's a bit annoying to be unable to look at an innocent picture of Pinkie in a chef's outfit without being reminded of it.

ReplyDeleteThe more I look at it, the more I'm falling in love with #1, and harwick's sumptuous fairytale storybook art style. The concept here is exquisite. Derpy, so desperate for a child she makes one, and Luna, who turns out to be the granter of wishes-upon-stars - a role we can presume Celestia did not and probably could not fill in her absence - comes to turn that creation into a real filly.

ReplyDelete1) I find it amusing that after all of the cross-overs with crazy anime, video-games, films and even historical events, my version of Dinky's origin by way of Pinocchio is considered "the weirdest crossover ever". C'mon... Luna's even blue! It all makes perfect sense. Really. Okay, maybe it's just me.
2) Very well done, if very curious versions of familiar characters. It certainly raises interest in the story.
3) What a gorgeous Fluttershy! And regulars know how much I like a pony under a tree... this counts. Love the lantern and overall style.
4) Interesting bit with the clock... is this from a fic?
5) That is a seriously awesome Trixie. I think someone just called her "Lulumoon". Love the backdrop as well.

ReplyDelete#1 I already raved about this painting to its esteemed artist at length, but once again I will say that I absolutely love it. The crossover idea works so well for Derpy and Dinky, and I adore the brilliant execution of the concept. As is usual for Harwick the textures here are fabulous and seriously almost look real in places--that wooden table especially is stunning--and Luna's mane and tail are gorgeous. Love the hint of red around poor Derpy's eyes as well... the piece is sad and yet appropriately magical. Kudos to you my friend!
#3 A very simple idea for a little fanart, but I like it quite a lot! As always I am partial to nighttime scenes with beautiful lighting, however, and the artist did a very good job of that here. Pretty colors!
#7 This is one of my favorite recent fanworks from John Joseco, I believe. Derpy and the scene are cute of course, but I also really like the softer quality to it and the flora was nicely rendered with all of that foliage and dappled lighting. Very nice.
#9 Is this a reference to something?? Because it feels like it must be to me. Nice drawing with a funky style and good use of color anyway, and poor little Twilight looks too cute for words!

#14 Another very nice Fluttershy artwork tonight! It has a lovely art nouveau vibe to it and despite the fact it does not adhere to the aesthetics in many traditional ways, but the overall effect is similar. Very pretty colors and interesting composition; I like it.
#17 The colors and coloring style in this picture really appeal to me, and drew my eyes in right away. They're bright and glossy beautiful jewel tones which are glassy-smooth in some places and harsher-edged like watercolor blots in others, and I find the combination fascinating. Beautiful work KP!
#19 Good Goddess, but this is also a pretty phenomenal picture. I'm not generally much into OC characters but I can still appreciate good artwork of course, and this piece is assuredly that. Fantastic design here and I love the hints of texture on the surfaces throughout the piece with the brushstrokes and such... very, very nice.
#25 This paper-cutout/feltwork-styled piece is delightfully fun and creative, and of course bonus points as always for Rarity in sewing glasses. Cute.
#26 Mercy, another stunning piece of OC fanart tonight! I love how people are always telling me my artwork is good, and yet I honestly don't believe I'd ever be able to create something like this... it really is quite exceptional. Beautiful colors and painterly artstyle, and I absolutely love the attention to detail throughout as well as the way the firelight was realistically captured. Wonderful work!

#32 More great Derpy fanart again! I'm not sure what it is exactly but something about the coloring or style reminds me of a Miyazaki animation, which of course is intended as a lovely compliment. Great composition as well.

ReplyDelete#4 The way the broken clock blends with the night sky somehow fits well for me, it give a sort of dreamy and subtly beautiful feel that I think suits the ruler of the night perfectly.
#5 This is a very eye-catching drawing that such shouts bad-ass at me. Why do I have such a fixation for arcane lines?
#11 While this may not have the subtlety of #4 it's still incredibly beautiful in its own way, the shades seem to clash while the colours fit perfectly together, and the butterflies just add to the beauty of the scene... also sparkles.
#16 Those eyes are simply mesmerising, and that bow also seems to fit with the scene very well.
#19 the different shades of light brown make the scene in this picture look old, which fits pretty well considering its depicting a historical monument... from the future... which isn't real... in two universes... yeah I need to stop over thinking this kind of thing.
#22 Somehow despite her clearly upset expression, Rainbow can still look formidable, something I'd expect from the pegasis. It also makes you wonder what could have happened to cause this scene, and the background connotes her feelings very well.
#26 AIRSHIPS! CANNONS! FIRE-MANED ALICORN! You get what I'm saying don't you... this is awesome.
#28 Everything about this seems to radiate anger, the action, the expression, and just how VIOLENT those yellows and reds are!
#29 Nyx fits pretty well with this scene, the colours seem to match up, and while the armour doesn't quite fit it does still add a layer of bad-assery.
#36 Jet-packs, check. Ray-guns, check. Bright colours, check. Thick jagged outlines, check. Awesome shades, check... pointyness? Check. This is awesome in every sense of the word.
