We had a pretty awesome meetup at Boston College today! We had somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 ponies, though, as always, it's hard to get an accurate count -- we can blame nine of them on the cars that came up from New York. Our group photo is attached. Not too happy with the quality, but I forgot to check my camera's batteries before the meetup, so we made do.
Activities included Rock Band with pony songs, viewing the latest "Friendship is Witchcraft" and today's episode, eating of chimicherrychangas, a test run of HoodedYellowPony's tabletop pony game under development, and a presentation from Coder Brony on the data from his "State of the Herd" census relating specifically to New England and Massachusetts. Interesting fact: compared to the rest of the world, we do *not* like Twilight Sparkle.

ReplyDeleteSavannah Bronies also had a successful meetup (we didn't take any pictures though). There were only a few of us there, but we still had a great time! A meetup is still a meetup even with only five guests, right? We had lunch, discussed ponies, and got to know each other. We'd like to plan another meetup at some point and think it would be great if more bronies showed up! If anyone's in or near Savannah, our meetup group is in the article :)
That Romanian Winter Wrap-Up is pretty shitty, which is a shame because I actually kind of like the language.

Muahaha! I did the soldier for Teamwork is Magic Part 2, and I have to say, everyone did an amazing job with their voicework on that. I wasn't expecting us to all sound that good when put together.

ReplyDelete@Brownie Good to meet you, Brownie. I did the voice of the Demoman. I really liked the script, but it took 5 minutes for my voice to recover from the harsh accent for half an hour straight! Great fun, though.

ReplyDeleteIndeed, well done to you, too. I did the voice of the Engineer, it was a ton of fun to get back into that accent again.
I like the news article. The reporter used pretty much all of the points that I did when I told my mom and sister about the show. Namely the thing about adult humor and how the show reminded me so much of cartoons like Looney Tunes and Animaniacs. My mom quickly mentioned Pixar films, which is something we both agreed on. It continues to amaze me how Lauren Faust took the girliest of girly shows and turned it into...well...magic.

ReplyDeleteI think I do a demoman better than I do a Soldier, but that role was taken. And I've learned a few tricks from doing audio readings so that I don't end up like that.
I murdered my voice doing The Cymbal Dragon and vowed I would find a way to stop it from happening.

ReplyDeleteCool. When I e-mailed about the project, nobody had even touched the Demoman role. I guess you asked some point after I did the voice. I've never done audio readings before, just recording songs. What types of tricks have you learned? Just out of curiosity.

ReplyDelete1) Do a few line before you record. Just slowly slip yourself into the character.
2) I usually do a couple of grunts as low as my voice will go to sort of start scraping away at it. Then, when it's fixing itself, I record. Since it's already fixing itself, I don't have to worry about it so much later.
3) Drink plenty of water. I always drink it beforehand because all of my Audio Readings are done in one take and I just don't have the time to drink inbetween.
4) Practice. I've been doing voices (Not voice acting or readings, just messing with my voice) since primary school. I suppose that's helped in stopping my voice from dying.
The rest is just tips on how to not kill your voice when doing multiple characters. That's always been my killer.
