Still a good read, though.
This story is hilarious but it's only the setup. Can't wait till the next chapter gets written so that we can find out what happens next. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been awake for about 27 hours now, so I'm in no condition to go about reading much of anything, but I'll definitely be checking this out once I've gotten some rest. I loved the whole Big Mac and Smartypants thing, and it seemed to me like the perfect Twimac setup, so it's good to see someone making good on it.

ReplyDeleteYeah she asks him to "Help me get THAT doll away from those girls." She never says MY doll. Seems like the whole "Big Mac taking Smarty pants means he has a crush on Twilight" thing is a bit unfounded. Its Fanon though so I guess thats not too unusual.

ReplyDelete... You know, this isn't nearly as chaotic as it could be just yet. We haven't even seen Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Twilight, and who THEY would like to get fixed up with, and Pinkie Pie is still lurking somewhere waiting to throw the whole thing into complete pandaemonium. I love it.

ReplyDeleteI don't think it's fanon at all, it's just using a canon event and making a story out of it. Two very different things.
This aughtta be GOOD! 8D GREAT chapter! Not many grammar mistakes that one could see, though you constantly used 'people' rather than ponies, though that's easily solved by a ctrl+f for people, and replace with ponies. Can't wait for chapter 2! 8D

ReplyDeleteThis is going to be good. I have to ask, though - what was Rarity's costume? Because I don't think a unicorn-Shadowbolt would make much more sense with a pegasus-Shadowbolt than alone, and anyway Rainbow's costume didn't look Rarity-quality.

ReplyDeleteI really, really enjoyed the first chapter. Everypony, Applejack especially, was written very well.
ReplyDeleteBut my ability to enjoy the story in future chapters depends entirely on how much the CMC derail the storyline, because I find stories where they take a role in the story like they are in this one to basically be idiot plots. Justified idiot plots, to be sure, but still quite frustrating to keep track of. This isn't a comedy first and foremost like The Romancing Quest was (at least it doesn't seem to be set up to be one), so I'm skeptical to say the least about whether their role in this will come off as anything more than annoying.
This is excellent. The build-up is fan-freaking-tastic and I can not wait until everything hits the fan. Also, it needs the comedy tag, because I aughed so hard while reading my roommate thought I was choking to death.

I'm not a huge shipping guy, but I enjoy a classic comedy of misunderstanding, so I'm having fun with it. And the kids pelting Twilight with apples alone is worth a comedy tag.
ReplyDeleteI'd say the biggest drawback of the story is the length of time between chapters making it hard to remember all of the twists and turns that are underway. I need a scorecard to recall who is sweet on who, and who they *think* is sweet on someone else.

The CMC have been wreaking havoc mainly by setting up a mystery date, and by throwing apples at twilight.

Decide: To pelt Twilight with apples (making her think about and be open to a member of the Apple family) and write love letters for Dash and Rarity to fix the two up, giving them to Ditzy to Deliver.
Ditzy Doo:
Likes: No pony specified, but close to Big Mac.
Thinks: The love letters given her by the CMC's were written by them, and therefore Sweetie Belle has a childhood crush on Rainbow Dash.
Loses: The other love letter for Rarity in Twilight's library, where it ends up in her saddlebag.
Fluttershy:
Likes: Mares only (and AJ specifically.)
Thinks: Well, she's about to be told what's going on, but from the CMC's perspective.

All jokes and mismatched understandings a side, it's nice to see the story develop a bit of seriousness to it with the hurt feelings between the characters. Big Macs feelings seem to go into more depth though, which is something I'd like to see between the other characters as well. Otherwise, looks good!

ReplyDeleteI found this fic a while ago, but I never bothered to read it, and holy cow what a mistake!!!
I mean, the whole premise, although done to death in the media, has so far felt fresh all the way trough; I mean, every twist is so great, so surprising, so interesting I didn't want it to end, and even if I found Applejack's (so far) final reaction abrupt, I still want to find out how that one goes, its that good!
Oh, and the ships themselves, they are just so fun to read, even more when I try to figure who is gonna be in love with who next, and who is going to get in the way!
One last thing, I actually drew my own chart in order to have a clear image of this whole mess, and I just had this stupid grin in my face while doing so. Good job my good sir, have all my attention and 5 stars!

ReplyDeleteI cannot believe how completely screwed up this fic is. It's hilarious how bad things get, it's getting so complicated that it's hard to keep track of. So for the first time in forever I had to make a folder for notes on this fic, so that I don't forget some of the things that happened. Never thought I would have to do that. At least not with a genre as (Usually) simple as Shipping.

ReplyDeleteOne weird request I'd have for it though is to have a quick summary of who each character currently believes the other characters like and all that at the beginning of each chapter; the time between chapters causes me to forget and I have to skim through the previous chapters to remind myself.

I really liked the part 4 but something that i felt its that everything suddenly got solved like if it was too fast... that doesnt mean it wasnt good i loved it but i was waiting for a little bit more trouble before the clarification of everything you know what i mean?... anyways looking forward to see more of this :) keep up the good work you are doing :D

ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean, and I'll admit I was tempted to ratchet up the tension more rather than have a few things come to light- but that would have required a few characters to really hold the idiot ball. There's still a couple of chapters left, however- and a lot of characters who've still entirely got the wrong end of the stick. Fear not! Shenanigans are incoming!

Of course, a great deal of that got sorted out with this latest update as the truth started to trickle out to various ponies. I too was sad to see some of those misunderstandings defused, but I look forward to seeing how things unfold from here.
This a great story that NEEDS a comedy tag. I was doing some work when reading this when I got to the intro of Doctor John 'Whooves' Smith because O just finished those two episodes of Doctor Who a week ago. Also I really hope that this love triangle(dodecahedron?)gets resolved soon.

I feel like she maybe gets a little too much credit in fanfics in general for always being in the know, but then in this particular story somebody had to have their act together if things were going to work out so I can overlook that.

I normally tend to shy away from the ship fics, but this one is... Adorable. Really light-hearted, which I really need after having a hard dose of Project Horizons.

The sudden introduction of Octavia, Vinyl Scratch, and Trixie so late in the game seemed slightly odd, but no big deal. And possible incoming MoonPie? That might be amusing, if it turns that way.
I wonder if this story going to finish in time to beat the upcoming Valentine's Day episode.

ReplyDeleteI'm bracing myself for the whole Twilight/Big Mac/Luna thing. That'll be a doozy. Also, do ages matter in this story? I only ask because the CMC are younger than Spike, and when I read shipping I picture the cast as humans. So I've got 16 year old Spike going on a date with like 10 year old Sweetie Belle. Just wondering if anything romantic will actually happen there, because then I'll have to make the CMC a little bit older. Fantastic story though.

ReplyDeleteThat's a fine question! To clear the point a little- I see Spike as, in human terms, maybe 11 or 12, compared to the CMC at about 10. The little date that they're on is more a bit of a cute thing than the start of a genuine romantic encounter, I think, because both of them are too young to really consider a relationship as much more than holding hands and maybe *gasp!* a kiss or two.

ReplyDeleteCool nuggets. I assumed it was only going to be a little thing like that, mostly just Sweetie Belle getting to hang out with her crush in a date setting and stuff. I'm still unsure of what ages to picture them as, but I usually picture Spike as a teenager. We'll see what goes down.

In all seriousness, it's not so much. It WAS trying to be a nod to the sort of confusion-based romantic comedies Shakespeare liked to write, though; maybe more like Much Ado About Nothing?
But, y'know, without being an immortal writer of staggering talent.
That was incredible. Way to tie in everypony together at the finale! I have to say though, the last pairing at the end, it seemed unfulfilled. I suppose love grows unexpectedly but maybe have some details on how they felt at that moment? Or their thoughts for each other. I think closing on the note of her thoughts on love would have been perfect, but your ending is satisfying enough. 5/5! You should post this on FIMFiction :D

ReplyDeleteYet I have to say, part 6 has to be the least reader-friendly of all, I mean, I do like long stories, but in this one I felt its length various times, going so far as making me unable to finish it in one go.
Another thing I need to say is the change in the atmosphere between each chapter. I mean, at first, and up until the 3° or 4° one, It seemed to be a serious type shipping story (kindness reward type), even with all that misunderstanding, yet slowly but steadily became more and more a light hearted type, and even though in the end I didn't mind much, I believe It could have been an even better story if you stuck with that. This is all a personal opinion of course.
Anyway, bitching aside, thanks for sharing this amazing story with us!
This story managed to take a bunch of ships that I could never in a million years see working (with the exception of TwiMac and perhaps Appleshy even if I don't personally ship Appleshy, I can see it work) and make them believeable and *enjoyable.* Rainbow/Rarity? Even that was pulled off convincingly and I wouldn't think that could be done. ;) Everypony was very much written in character. I liked the somewhat confusing plot line. For me it made the story a very entertaining read. The only part I didn't like was the "Octavia is Pinkie's sister" bit but that's just personal head canon preferences, rather than evidence of flawed writing so I can't really complain there. I loved the parts with Trixie, Sweetie Belle's letter and Twilight's to-do lists. And last but not least, Pinkie and Luna....oddly enough that makes sense to me. Who knew?

Not only was it a fun, lighthearted reprieve form Fallout Equestria: Horizons, but at many points throughout, I found myself drawing unwanted attention by breaking out in fits of laughter (closet brony, didn't work out too well when I tried to "come out"). You are a talented writer, with a knack for intricate plot weaving. I gladly give your story 5 Stars and am surprised that it has yet to obtain a Star-6 rating. Thank you, again for sharing your talents with all of us and hope to be able to enjoy many further literary work form you.

As far as Star-6; I don't think this is a Star-6 piece. It's good, I hope, but it doesn't have the universal appeal or flawless writing that characterises a Star-6 story. I can do better- I intend to!
I really enjoyed it! Although it did seem quite random at times, it was still very nice. I love how Pinkie had everything worked out all along. I'm still amazed one can write a detailed, seven-chapter fic about the events of a single day. I'm not sure how I feel about Trixie ending up with Smartypants... But hey, that's a just a minor personal complaint.

ReplyDeleteWhile I'm glad that I read it, and I'm doubly glad for the happy ending, if I ever decide to reread FUMSP, I think I'll skip the sequel. It's not bad - in fact, it's amazingly well-executed - but it's not what I was expecting, and not my personal preference.

ReplyDeleteWow, I was uncertain about giving Three Magics a shot, but it definitely paid off. One of the best bittersweet fics I've read in some time. Very reminiscent of all the good parts of 'It Takes a Village.'
