ReplyDelete#1: Ah, there it is. Not even Nightmare Moon is immune to the randomness of Pinkie Pie, who is now threatening to steal the second-best pony slot from Fluttershy. (Best pony, of course, is the eternally adorkable Twilight Sparkle.)
ReplyDelete#2: "Here comes the mashed alfalfa train" is a pretty funny line by itself, but coming from Nightmare Moon, it's priceless! I understand why Diamond Tiara is unpopular in the fandom, but it's a shame so few artists and writers take advantage of her comedic potential.

#2- So we see the return of the dreaded alfalfa. No matter how much of a bitch Diamond Tiara is, I don't think she deserves that.
2.- Interesting... it is a 'Cupcakes' reference without actually referencing 'Cupcakes'. Or is it that we simply cannot stop thinking about 'Cupcakes' after we've read it?

ReplyDeleteIt was like the longest time before I realized that the mist swirling around Nightmare Moon is supposed to be her mane and tail. But she's such a great presence that I didn't give the maneless/tailess appearence much heed.
ReplyDeleteSeeing this, I actually wish NMM had more characterisation. Celestia is actually pretty bland when she isn't trolling, but NMM could have had a lot of potential.
ReplyDeleteI've always been of the opinion that Eps 1 and 2 were okay but didn't really fit with the show, but now I'm beginning to wonder if, had the NMM arc covered half the season, we could have had a really good villain.

ReplyDeleteEh, I don't know. Diamond Tiara strikes me as someone who's not going to change unless something traumatic happens, and I don't think they'd be allowed to show such an event. Silver Spoon would probably mature if she ever stopped spending so much time with Diamond Tiara, but until then, I can't really see her changing either. Besides, I think it's good for the show to have a couple of stuck-up bullies around, so kids who have been (or are being) bullied can sympathize with Apple Bloom and other victims of the Sugar Bump Rump duo.

I think it's the latter. I didn't connect the comic with "Cupcakes" until the second time I read through it, and that only because the fandom has conflated the name Pinkamena with the character in "Cupcakes" (which annoys me more than the existence of "Cupcakes", to be honest). But I don't think Nightmare Moon is using the name Pinkamena to make that connection; I think she's just the type of character to refer to everypony by their actual name, not their nickname. But maybe that's just me.
