It was pretty good, compared to most pmv's. There's more to editing then simple masking techniques though.

The intro was great. The rest was alright, the masking and extended clips got old after a while.

That's exactly what I got, with an additional cheesy lens flare.

Editing's great. Next time get a vision so it's not just a bunch of random clips set to music. Only then will you have something I want to see.

What program was that? I can't get any of those layering effects with windows live movie maker (I'm probably the bottom of the heap as editing PMVs goes, but hay, its all fun)

If someone had said listen to this song, and then said think of Rainbow Dash, I'd'v'ad brain problems trying to merge the two.

Yet it works, very well. Very distinctive from the usual pacing, and that song...

Second listen, and the (not fun, but... impact? I lack the words..) has been doubled. Will download, and-

      Third listening... will ponder.

Very good PMV, and I love how you show that this doesn't need dozens of fast and flashy clips racing by to be excellence (I've always preferred longer, paced editing. styles)

      Really good! Thank you.

I liked this a lot. A new song for me, plus some decent editing and effects, without causing seizures due to psycho coloring or the scene changing six times a second. I was able to enjoy both the song and the pictures equally, a balance that isn't easily achieved.

People love using the anonymity provided by the internet to tear down stuff that others build up. If they really intended for their comments to be helpful, they'd have found a way to send the maker of the video constructive criticism privately, instead of just making snarky comments in public.

I don't see the appeal. The argument of "not overdone" is just ludicrous to me. Why would anyone get that much amazement out of simple editing techniques and okay lip synching?

I've seen PMV's that amazed me. This was not one of them.

Clips were too long and often didn't fit with the music, lip synching was just alright, and OH GOD THAT LENS FLARE. The masking was neat but got repetitive way too quickly.

I am reading all theses negative comments about how it ONLY used masking and used RANDOM clips. None of them seem to be asking Did it NEED anything more then masking. The answer, No. it was pleasing to the eyes without causing seazures. Random clips? Well DUH, all the videos do. Have not seen anypony try and do an original score for an entire episode so get over it. This was good without crossing over to too much for the sake of having more. I would like to see any of you snarkhorses try lip sinking any video to music that is not a music video to start with.

Ehh, not great. The masking was cool maybe the first two or three times but halfway through the video it was clear the editor didn't have much imagination. The editing overall was pretty sub-par. There was no beat sync or coherent theme. The lip sync was great but, like that masking, it was just a gimmick to press people's "This video is automatically good because it has this" buttons. However, gimmicks that they were, the masking and lip sync were still extremely well executed, and I would love to see this editor pull them off in a meaningful way in another video.

I barely watch PMV's because they are usually pretty bad (no offense) but this is very well done. More than just cutting scenes, hes actually edited them as well to have more effect and work better with the song beats. Fantastic.

A good PMV can be made with nothing more than Gimp, Windows Movie Maker, FFMpeg, Audacity and Virtual Dub... and skill. All the special effects in Premiere or AfterEffects won't save a lack of skill.

Of course, good skill paired with good tools (PAID FOR, not pirated, for people with Adobe Envy) is the best situation.

I make no assertion that the video linked is in any particular category above. I will just say this: be impressed with skill, not shiny... if you yourself have the ability to tell the difference between the two.

When people say a video uses "random clips" they mean the clips weren't chosen to best tell a story, match up with lyrics or get across any specific theme, there's nothing really unifying them.

That said I don't think the clips used in this PMV were random.

THIS on the other hand, was one of the earliest ones created, and is ridiculously well-done. The synching is amazing, the scene choices are excellent, and it turns a song that sucks on its own to something highly enjoyable. The only one I've seen with better synching is shit fuck stack sung by Fluttershy.

The song is OK, but the editing is brilliant.

      Wow. Wow. Wow.
It was probably a crime against humanity, but I got up and danced.

It was okay. The effects kinda got in the way of the video itself, pretty damn annoying for shit to freeze every five seconds and stuff to turn black. The video would benefit if it dropped the lip sync and focused on meaningful clips.
Lip sync is so fucking overrated.

      Dear Princess Luna,
Today I learned that lip-synching is cool but don't over-do it. It's important to have a good mix of thoughtful effects and well placed voice syncing.

I had typed out several rather large chunks of text to explain my view of it, but after reading and editing, it seemed overwrought.

I did notice some lip syncing issues in the very beginning and the very end but little else. Usually a matter of a syllable or two out of pacing.

Suffice to say, I don't see eye to eye with much of the criticism and this has quickly become one of my favorite videos.

For some reason this emotionally affects me. Usually only classical and instrumental affects me.
