ReplyDeleteSeriously, I am simultaneously intrigued and frightened. Despite the tags, I expected something a little more Pygmalion and less Frankenstein. It's pretty good for all that, and I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for updates.

Now, the fic itself. Not bad! I wanted to have Tom brought a little more to life, y'know, but can't have everything in the first chapter. I'm sure the character development will be great.

Author here. From what I gathered, the pre-readers were kinda turned off by the first chapter because of its steamy nature, but not enough to prevent its posting. It doesn't get much worse than that. In fact I think it gets better. I gave Rarity in this story an extremely flirtatious nature that is probably not canon, but I deemed the character change necessary.
ReplyDeleteTo answer the question, yes this is a Tom X Rarity fic, but I've got plans because I honestly couldn't see how anybody getting shipped with a rock would work other than the whole "make a golem" route, and then an idea came to my head. The infamous scene in question is Rarity's attempt at blackmailing Twilight. Yes, it worked.
@YeowzaMare You know what? Despite the Dark tag and the light horror themes I've got planned, there ARE funny bits. I just don't know if it's enough for a Comedy tag.

I was also responsible for Rarity's Tale, but I went under a different name for that one. I'm revising it BIG time and I'll have it reposted as soon as this side project is out of the way.

ReplyDeleteWell I'm hoping the star rating will go up once I've posted chapter two. I wasn't writing this with the idea of making a masterpiece in mind because the concept of Rarity being shipped with a rock was such a royally screwy idea, and so that is what I wrote. A royally screwy story.

If anybody would like to drop me ideas on what is inherently wrong with chapter one(Red), other than the concept and the sauce, and how to fix it, I'd like to hear them.

ReplyDeleteThe whole Rarity jumping Twilight's bones thing is sort of out of nowhere and kinda weird. I mean, if a friend found you masturbating, would you really let them suddenly screw you? And vice vera: Finding a close friend masturbating, the last thing I would think of is to 'help' them. Even if I want something from them. The whole part at the end felt weird and kinda sudden. I might even say it felt out-of-place considering the mood of the previous scene and the supposed mood of the whole fic.

ReplyDeleteI was actually trying to build to only an implication of sex and have something else happen, but then my brain fizzled out on that because I didn't like the pay off. I also had an idea for a second set of chain of events but felt this way led to a slower build up towards the climax(heh heh).
Have patience, guys. I'm building on a theme. This is actually a mix of horror and romance, but not too heavy on either.

Twilight looked up from the pages at Fluttershy, the yellow pegasus standing there awkwardly and attempting to hide behind her hair.
"... Okay, Fluttershy, I know you've got a passion for literature, and you're not a bad writer, but... Really? A rock and a tree?"
Fluttershy blushed and crossed her forelegs, rubbing them nervously.
Twilight frowned. "And this goes on for over fifty pages! How did you come up with all this?"
"... P-Pinkie Pie let me borrow her dad's book on rock f-farming and Applejack told me about how trees... Pollinate." she blushed again, more fiercely.
Twilight shook her head and sifted telekinetically through the pages, skimming over the text and occasionally repressing the urge to gag. In the middle, she found an unnumbered page that seemed to be written on different paper, and peered at it.
" '"Oh, Bloomberg, I want to feel your roots interlocking with mine, our xylem beating in harmony..." Fluttertree said, he-' Wait."
Twilight looked back at her friend, somewhat visibly disturbed. Fluttershy was blushing so brightly she was radiating heat.
"Th-th-that w-wasn't meant t-to be in th-there!" she stammered, grabbing the sheets of paper from a speechless Twilight.
"I'd, uhm, b-better be going, th-there's a lot to do, I- I have to change Hummingway's b-bandages and... Bye!" she shot through the door, scattering a few sheets of paper in her wake.
Twilight stared at the open door, her eye twitching.
"... I thought Rarity's romance novels were bad..."

Chapter Two should be in the pipeline by the end of the day. No idea on when it'll be posted after that. Honestly, Chapter One is a fluke. I thought it was a funny fluke, but. . . eh.

ReplyDeleteWell, though I confess I wound up here and read this story out of morbid curiosity alone, I suppose giving you my feedback is the only polite thing to do, really.
ReplyDeleteWe all knew a fanfiction about this pairing was inevitable, but I doubt I'm alone in having expected little more than a ridiculous and poorly-written [clopfiction, most likely] story as the end result. Instead, color me surprised my dear; you actually came up with a believable (well, within-the-confines-of-our-cartoon-pony-universe-believable, of course) storyline that seems promising thus far, and you write with a great deal of poise and insight into our cast's thoughts and feelings, in my opinion. While I can certainly see that this will likely get quite grim, thus far I feel it's shaping up nicely and am curious as to how it will progress.

this story first appeared after the point in time where I submitted a story to the pre-readers... and now this one's been updated.
Does that mean it's safe to assume mine's been rejected? It's my first story submission so I have no idea what time frame to expect.
Unless you get a message saying it's been rejected, it's probably safe to assume your story slipped under radar. You should either get an email saying "added to queue" or a request to revise. Wouldn't hurt to politely ask them what happened.

I think it's cool and different! I liked the first chapter... Rarity's reaction to twilight was just a way to show how mad she really is.
ReplyDeleteOh you guys flatter me. Honestly when I started writing this, I wasn't aiming for five star material. I just wrote this to be goofy because I saw a need for a Tomity situation after the first two Season Two episodes. I thought others would also jump on the bandwagon, but it looks like I'm the only one providing at the moment.

I'm hoping to get this out of the way quick so that I can go back to my revision of Rarity's Tale and finish that. Then I've got a mega epic, super long, Scootaloo adventure I've got planned that I'm anxious to start.
