I'm surprised it took this long to ponify Jayson.  Daniel Ingram has had a pony for a few months now.

I have to admit... I didn't really understand the potato thing much at first.   Why does the demigod of ponydom roll with a golden russet avatar?

After a bit of research, I found out just how noble potatoes actually are. Have some interesting potato facts:
    • The average American eats 126 pounds of potatoes a year.  I'm pretty sure I double that though with how many ridiculously delicious french fries I consume.
    • New York consumes more potatoes than any other state.
    • In 1802, Thomas Jefferson was the first person to serve French Fries in the United States
    • All 50 states grow potatoes
    • The largest potato ever grown was a whopping 7 pounds
    • Potatoes are in fact vegetables
So there you have it!  Something so vital to the American way of life surely deserves such an illustrious position!

Anyway, this comic was awesome. Though, I fear for Golden Russet...Trixie does NOT look amused, and that never results in good things for ponies who've upset her.

no, there are 50 states, then the district of columbia (washington DC is not in any state, nor it it a state itself) and then there are US territories that are not states and do not have the same rights and powers as states. (puerto rico, guam, US virgin islands, midway, and a lot of islands in the pacific.)

residents of US territories are allowed to freely travel anywhere in the US and it's territories, as they are considered US citizens. the only drawback is they do not hold a seat in legislature, and cannot elect congressmen or senators.

US territories may become a state if they reach a minimum population and ratify a state constitution. If I recall Puerto Rico has had the opportunity to become a state several times now.

Was that comic originally in French? It would make more sense since the French name for potato, pomme de terre, means, more or less, apple of the ground, or, I guess, dirt apples. Otherwise, I'm just not getting why Trixie thinks it's an apple stand.

Golden Russets are actually a type of apple, not a type of potato. The skin on the fruit is rough like a potato's, which actually makes them incredibly resistant to worms and diseases. Underneath the skin, though, they're crisp and have great flavor.

As a few have stated before, European languages often use the literal 'earth apple', which makes this funnier and should be added to that potato fact list. ;3

I live in Ireland and we are pretty well known for loving potatoes. This comic kind of reminds of my uncle. He was once dating a Eastern European girl who complained that every Irish meal involved potatoes so he offered to make her dinner. The dinner was more or less every variation of potatoes you could think of: Roasted, mashed, boiled, baked, fried, chips, Potato soup, you name it he had it. I think they broke up soon after that.

Actually, Thomas EDISON stole everything from Nicola Tesla, Thomas JEFFERSON was about 50-75 years prior to that little toss up and was one of the primary writers of the US Declaration of Independence (as well as Congressman, President, philosopher, plantation owner and some other odds and ends).

Also, I'm eating a Red Delicious right now. Coincidence? Yes, actually, I always eat an apple for breakfast.
