Well, all I can tell you is that its good so far. I hope you will continue it.

btw, Spike should of been Watson. Not only would a Rarity/Spike partnership already seem canon, but Spike could of twirled his devilous mustache of his...

Oh lord, this is awesome! I was skeptical at first but once again I'm reminded that crossovers that simply add the element of one story into another are usually great works of fun parody.

Love how the story is written in a slightly pre-modern fashion.

I tried to do a Twilight/Spike version. Couldn't hold it in Doyle's style though for long.

I'm glad someone could do it this well.

I must say the dialogue in this story is fantastic. The tone and accent just about fits the original Holmes novels, but the out of place modern slang sprinkled here and there just makes it all hilarious.

OMIGOSH! When I saw this, I just thought it would be steryotypical like Holmes, but no this is truly the way of Conan Doyles stories, except ponified. Thanqol, I am sorry I underestimated you. I thought I was the only MLP:FIM fan who read the original SH books. It seems I am not. Keep up the great work.

This is extremely interesting! It's not just a translation of the original into MLP terms, it also remains true to the characters taking the roles. After my first read-through I hunted down the original so I could look at them side-by-side.

Okay, this is the very definition of an unexpected delight! The mix of Doyle's style and MLP is amazingly smooth, with just enough modernity and meta mixed in - that exchange about musical montages made me laugh like a hyena!

Really good, overall, and I'm keen to see the rest of it!

This is FANTASTIC. I confess that at first I thought you were copying sections of A Study In Scarlet, but this is all original, and all fantastic. You echo Conan Doyle's style very well, while still keeping it ponified.

Rarity makes a fantastic Holmes- that was a truly inspired choice.

This story is an absolute travesty, an insult to Doyle's fantastic works of fiction, and a disgrace to the eyes. Sir, you should feel okay I can't keep a straight face anymore this was awesome soul bro.

Rainbow Dash's narration was spot-on, everypony felt in-character, and the twist at the end made me laugh so hard. So. Hard. You have no idea how hard.

I've only just started the story and I'm already fascinated. I do wonder if the mixture of formal period language with occasional slang vocabulary ("If she proves as insufferable as you imply, it should be easy to ditch her!") is accidental or intentional "Sophisticated As Hell" humor.

Wonderful stuff, and here's hoping for a sequel in which, with Spike foiled, Rarity does indeed find herself having to solve a petty glowing dog mystery. Fluttershy should like that at least.

Excellent and hilarious story. I was very pleased when you departed from the source text (chapter 3 I believe?) entirely; for a bit there it was amusing but worryingly derivative. I have seen entirely too many crossovers that boil down to replacing one character's name with another and throwing in occasional references. But happily you broke out of that and produced something original and fun!

A copy/paste from a conversation with Thanqol last night, which I promised I'd post when this updated:

This is exactly the sort of decision that defines a good adaptation versus a bad one. You need to do something to justify the rework, some stamp to put on it that indelibly marks it as this new thing and not what it was before. Or else, what are you doing but defacing a classic?
And My Little Pony is massively more geared toward the silly, character driven plot (than it is the intrigue and tension of a murder mystery). The basic framework of the original Study is still clearly in place, but legitimately filtered through the lens of colorful equines.
And that's really why I'll be singing its praises until my voice gives out. Had you hugged the rails out of fear, I don't think I would have enjoyed it half so much.

The first couple if chapters have an odd effect. When Dash speaks in character for Dash ("Wow, she does sound like a dweeb"), it feels like she's breaking character. I think it's a dissonance between her speaking style and the super-cultured Watson narration.

Hmm... 2 chapters in and the list of suspects has grown to AT LEAST 3. No, I haven't read the original Holmes, so this is all new to me more or less.

Interesting take on Blueblood BTW. This is actually how I originally imagined him before I saw Best Night Ever: a charmer who's good with the lady Ponies but doesn't become attached to them. And having seen Best Night Ever, no doubt this story's Blueblood is just as shallow as the canon one despite the charming veneer.

... although, if I read a bit further than those first two chapters, the deviation becomes more pronounced, to the point where it's harder to find as many correlations. Perhaps the author of this fanfic eventually built up a bit more confidence to produce original content as he or she went along, which I thoroughly applaud.

My primary riff here was Study in Emerald by Neil Gaiman, which starts extremely close to the Sherlock Holmes story and then goes batshit. Come chapter three we well and truly depart from Mr. Doyle's narrative and we do not return.

      ...I want more.

It was beautiful and adorable and silly and amusing all rolled up together and while I admit I'd have loved more of Rarity/Holmes actually doing some detecting, this is quite honestly one of the best fanfics I've read, one of the most honestly adorable ways of making a ship work, and dear god almighty I could not stop laughing at the reveal with the culprit.

But I want more. There has to be another Holmes story for you to spoof, another case for the two to solve.

Translation: I'm sad if this is over.

Well....I have to say that A Study in Rainbows was better. Not that Hound of Ponyville was bad, far from it actually. The ending just seemed a bit...WTF, I guess. The bear thing was weird, to say the least, though I liked the swamp scene with Pinkie's dad. Although I saw the shipping from a ways off, I wish you had held off until at least Part 3 (hint hint), but that's partly because I'd have written Rarity as being unsure of returning Dash's feelings for her; I'm a sucker for drama. *shrugs*

To other readers, I've only pointed out what I felt were the negative spots here. For the love of decency, do NOT let me keep you from reading this magnificent adaptation of Doyle's work.

Awwww. Dash/Rarity is the most unusual of ships, but here it comes so naturally. Rainbow Dash makes a wonderful bashful suitor, and Rarity shows great wisdom of the heart. They fit together perfectly in the end.

Rarity seemed to be a guest in her supposedly co-equal story, and I would have liked to see more of her, but all the other characters were wonderful just the same. Bravo! And I echo the call for more mystery stories.

That shipping took me by surprise as well but, as Jetfire said, it was oddly natural. Also it's an interesting deviation from Holmes and (most) derivative works based on it: Holmes and Watson weren't homosexual, but what if they were? It adds a very interesting layer to their personal lives at 21 Baker Street. (And I'm not talking about the Secret Butt Fun.)

I implore you, good Thanqol, please ignore my earlier callous accusations based on prejudging from the first two chapter's heavy resemblance to the original works, and gift us with another some time.

@Jetfire That's in keeping with the original, in which Holmes spends most of the story offscreen.

      @Geldon Yetichsky
Yeah, I love how these start out with the same setup as the original story, but quickly spin out of control due to the pony influence.

      @Timber
It's pretty much accepted fanon at this point that Dash's middle name is Miriam, as invented by BobCat in "Fair Feathered Friend".

I don't really like the name Miriam, it seems odd. I prefer my ponies to have a single name. Except for pinkie, because that was actually in the show.

Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, Ditzy Doo, Sapphire Shores, Photo Finish, Hoity-Toity, Big Macintosh, Granny Smith, Silver Spoon, Diamond Tiara, Cup Cake, Carrot Cake...
Two word names are the vast majority.

This story made me so happy.

One more? Please? Perhaps based on The Sign of the Four?

Finished the first and halfway through the second story, and I must say I'm enjoying this series. However, I have to ask two things.

      *slight spoilers*

First, was that an intended Dominic Deegan reference near the end of Hound of Ponyville Part 4?

Second, Why am I the first to ask this?

Too late, but it would've been pretty cool if Twilight was Holmes, Spike was Watson and Rainbow Dash was Lestrade. Why RD? In that egghead episode about Daring Doo, RD doesn't like being an egghead but reluctantly likes it. Lestrade helps Holems out but reluctantly.

I may be a year late to the party, but I just wanna say this is pretty much the best fanfic I've ever read, pony or otherwise.
