Discussion: Where'd the Windigoes Go?

Windigoes are kept away by FRIENDSHIP between the pony tribes, but G5 had no windigoes, so where were they?

Was it a plot hole? Or are magical creatures like that just non-existent when magic doesn't exist? What is your theory on why the windigoes vanished?
