  • McDonalds Pony Toys Ring Demonstration

    by Sethisto

Just in case you guys were wondering how exactly the ring attatchments work this time around, it looks like those plastic dongles on their heads really are permanent fixtures.   It's a bot obnoxious to be honest, but I'm sure they snap right off.

Thanks to Peter for the images again!

      @Adambatt
Belt sander is way too crude. My solution would be a decent pair of model clippers and a set of good files. Then paint to cover the damaged part of the hair.

It's not like my main goal was to play with them. I'm getting them so I can look cool in as many ways as possible. (Also, it probably will be a fun way to troll my friend, which I wouldn't care about if HE wasn't such a troll...)

Friggin... why, what are the rings even for? Won't they just obstruct play? Yeesh. For years I've been reading Shortpacked! and thinking it was silly for Willis to complain so much about toy design, and now I am filled with rage over ponies.

Carefully filing them down is probably a better idea then snapping them off, considering the size of the toys and generally vulnerablity of pony-toys' necks. Then put epoxy putty over the "bald spot", model it after the regular flow of the hair and paint it the appropriate color. Apart from the time required to dry, this shouldn't take more then fifteen minutes per pony.

I've got a method: Get a lighter, and a paper clip. Straighten the paperclip, and heat one of its ends until really hot. And then you just slice through the plastic like hot knife through butter!

Or, sharp nail clippers could work too...

I'm a bit conflicted. I have the previous McDonalds ponies and I think they look better than these. Not to mention having to file/sand down the ring loop and paint over that spot just to get them more accurately presentable. I think the rings were a silly idea anyway.

So I want them, but I don't want them, which is frustrating.

I've got used to buying pony merch in retail stores, but for some reason asking for one of these is mind-boggling to me. I keep thinking they're not that great because of the ring and stuff, but in the end id really like them. Probably no one else will ask for them, either.... ughh.

Looks like the cutie marks are simplified -- Rarity has one diamond rather than three, Pinkie has only one balloon and Flutters has only one butterfly.

I received a coupon booklet from McD's in the mail a couple days back. Once coupon was for a free happy meal with any other purchase of more than $1. (IOW, you can't order off the $1 menu and get your pony, but you can order whatever the next cheapest thing is.) Eligibility is residents of Colorado, Wyoming and western Nebraska. I did some garbage can diving at my post office (I have a PO box) and scored several of these coupons. So these ponies should be pretty cheap.

The rings look kind of counter-intuitive to me. They are evidently the type that come off the toy with very little hassle. Therefore, why have them at all? The point of a ring is to fix things to so they DON'T fall off...

I'm personally having an internal debate whether to switch the ring for a proper keyring, or just remove it completely.

Keyring - I get to keep it close by at all times.
Non-keyring - I can actually maintain the tail properly.

imo if you want a keyring its bettter to do what i did to a blind bag dashie..1foot of stainless wire a torch and some items to bend the wire around..remove the glued hair points and slowly pop the head off..make collar to fit the neck out of wire with keychain loop nestled between the wings..trim hair to fit over collar glue and slip head back on....course i drilled the hooves and added rare earth magnets so she will stay put where ever i put her

i cant see these "nubs" after being drilled out surviveing long
