ReplyDeleteI quite like this story. Have been keeping up with it over on fanfiction.net. Not amazing writing, but the plot and the author's character interactions and thoughts more than make up for it.
ReplyDeleteCome on, this book does not exist. If it did, the literacy rate among adult males in this country wouldn't be like, 40%. But I can buy Spike being desperate enough to try this. I'm going to read this to see what happens now.

OK, so far my only problem is the way Twilight actually _supports_ Spike. That kind of bothers me. I don't want this fic to completely abandon character for comedy, but I'll keep reading.

ReplyDeleteNot read the fic, but isn't the title referencing to the book Ron Weasley gets from his brothers in Deathly Hallows to finally woo Hermione? "12 fail-safe way to charm witches" (Which is yet another reasin why I hate Ron/Hermione, everything Harry did naturally, Ron needed a book to understand XD)

ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed reading this. It isn't written perfectly, though the ideas are so compelling that it makes you want to know what happens next, and it does keep you reading.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't a very long fic, so it is great for a short burst of entertainment. I think that the ultimate goal of a fic is to make the reader have a good time, which this does rather well. It also helps that the concept is wholly believable; I can see Spike doing this. I'd definately recommend.

ReplyDeleteRough around the edges editing-wise but impressive from a character interaction standpoint. Shipfics need tension, too, and this story has it in spades.

For those of you discouraged that it's over, author stated in comments after the chapter that while there will be no epilogue or full blown sequel, other fics may contain the couple. So it's not like this is the end of the happy pair.
I stopped reading at chapter 8 or so.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get passed that the story didn't deal with Twilight at all. That is, Twilight from the very beginning is a horrible pony who should be dealt with in some way, but she isn't. She never even apologises. She reads Spike's book even after saying she wouldn't, she tells Rarity just enough to screw everything up, she refuses to apologise about it or understand she did anything wrong with doing these things, she killed Spike's hopes and dreams instead of being supportive at all.... She just sucks. Pinkie at leasts acknowledges that Twilight did terrible things, but Twilight pointedly refuses to agree. The entire drama towards the end is fundamentally Twilight's fault. I agree with her the book was stupid, but the answer is not to go behind Spike's back and make things even more complicated for no reason. Also it keeps referring to her and Spike as siblings which is never done in the show and so annoys me greatly.
Just finished chapter 10 and I have to say that was a darling conclusion. If I ever read another ship fic in the future, I hope it will be as sweet and charming as this one has been.

You did a great job here, and i'm kind of sad that it's over.
