Ponychan /fic/ Writeoff
Writefriends from all over Ponychan gathered on the weekend of January 21 for a war of words. Over the course of 54 hours, with a total of 18 participants, they managed to conjure over 80,000 words. Stuttgart Meetup
After meeting at 6 p.m. at Stuttgart central station, we went to a Müller drugstore to buy some blindbags and other merchandise. Then all of us drove to the Stuttgarter Hackerspace shackspace to have some fun, watch ponys and sing together until 5 a.m. on saturday.

I think one of my roomies has a printed version of Past Sins. I think it's Past Sins anyway. I've never read it, but the actual books sure do look kickass. lol
That Twilight snowpony looks incredible. I was thinking; "Someone spent a good little while working on that". Then I looked at the description... 4 hours. Yup. A good while alright. But it was worth it.
The Ask the Ponies site sounds kinda interesting. An advice site. I think that's the first actual advice site we've had? Needs a link though, Seth. ;)
Wow, so Max Gilardi actually wrote an article about Bronies. At first I wasn't sure what to think. Even scoffed once slightly. But as I got more into it, it's a great article and it makes sense from more than just the Bronies perspectives or the people curious about it. He pretty much summed it up rather nicely. Nothing more I can add to that.
That Pinkie clock is adorable. I bet if you hold it and chant the right words, it turns into a dimensional portal. You all think I'm crazy, but just watch!
So much merch stuff tonight, goodness. That Vinyl beanie is over $200, wow. That's gotta be one of the most expensive beanies yet. The filly Dash is adorable, as always. <3

So I guess I'll just keep my hopes up for the book and start reading it once it comes out ^^

By Celestia I'd love to make a snow-pony, if we actually got some snow up here. Seriously, almost February, I live in New England, and the most snow we've had so far is 2-inches that JUST GOT WASHED AWAY BY RAIN AND 40 DEGREE WEATHER. The local pegasi are REALLY dropping the ball up here.

If you join the Central Florida Bronies group, you can keep tabs on any other Central Florida meetings, as well as the date of the NEXT Brony airsoft rave party. Plus, we're all nice. :D

ReplyDeleteOh I'm digging the new banner. 马术日报 is the perfect translation of Equestria Daily; it directly translates as 'The Equestrian (horse-riding) Newspaper'. The words on the left mean 'beloved pretty girl, best pony'. In fact I recognise this design, it's the same guy who did all those ponified hong bao designs! If I had to give hong baos out I'd print those and use 'em in an instant.

Seriously: Printing custom books with a size of 500+ pages and a number of 1 is a matter of 50+$.
But if we get a printing service to ship it internationally while having a print run of 100+ it'll get a lot cheaper for everyone.
Plus, we can team up and create a 20% cooler version with a fancy cover etc.

About Hotdiggitydemon, one of the reasons I like MLP is that I've had friends reminiscent of the characters. It also helps that every other tween com and slice of life comedy (like the myriad Disney live action series and Gumball)seems to include the same exact tropes as the Simpsons. Take Gumball, for example, Idiot father who miraculously survived to adulthood(to say nothing of the fact that at least Homer supported his family this douche just lazes around), super smart sister, level headed stay at home mom, and dumbass brother(s)- sound familiar? It should because it's freaking everywhere and here's the kicker- I can't relate. My dad is former maximum security prison guard with a 3rd degree blackbelt, my mom's a little more absentminded than anyone else in the family. And you know, I get really sick of those tropes. I think they're kind of insulting and misandrist. But MLP doesn't have that crap, it's not afraid to let the girls be the butt of a joke or have well rounded characters.

ReplyDeleteDifferent strokes for different folks. Explaining how good the animation is to someone who hates flash is impossible because they have blinded themselves so they would never notice. Same with the music, characters, and timing.
Anyone incapable of setting aside their petty social and cultural mores about girl oriented programming and incapable of introspection will never understand why it's popular because they cannot even analyze the property in the proper mindset.
tl;dr
Some people refuse to accept some things so don't waste your breath on them if they're incapable of accepting anything that doesn't fit into their small worldview.

ReplyDeleteI think the hotdiggetydemon article doesn't really say much about My Little Pony specifically, but just why people like shows (or anything) in general. Sure there's lots of legitimate reasons for liking things, and you should still tell people those things to potentially get them interested. But at the same time there's the appeal to your id which can't really be explained, and if people don't make that connection then they probably never will, for MLP or anything else. This is even true for FANS of the show who won't get to the same level of other fans simply because that magic spark doesn't click in their brain.
