Evil Enchantress rap. Oh my that was amazing. I love Gorillaz's Demon Days. And to combine it with ponies... The album is already a masterpiece, and this makes it that better.

I've been waiting for this album since I saw that cover on a previous drawfriend. Listening right now. Still not sure if I wanna download yet, but I am loving these transitions so far. Especially in between Dirty Enchantress and Giggle Ghosties Inc. That was awesome. While I'm on it, how awesome are these titles?

ReplyDeleteYipes, I REALLY don't want to say anything negative about this, as this was a great job, and I do love Gorillaz and ponies. However... I feel it should be mentioned that it doesn't mesh as well as I'd hoped. It kind of feels like I'm listening to both separately, the slower(darker?) tones of Gorillaz doesn't seem to go well with the happier tunes of FIM, and there's a good bit of dissonance between the two.

ReplyDeleteNot to say that this is all negative, was quite fond of 16:40, Celestia's storytelling with that tune pretty much defied everything I said in my previous comment.
Having listened to the whole album now, I'd like to offer my final opinion. I've always said that a great mashup is greater than the sum of its parts. While this is an interesting concept album, and some of the songs do mesh together pretty well, it was pretty obvious throughout that the songs were just made of two or other other songs added together. Unfortunately, it didn't really excite me like I thought it would. No offense to anyone here who really likes it, and I mean really likes it, but for me it was just okay. Definitely worth a listen, maybe even a download since it's free.

Some work better than others... Some are kind of awkward and the pony and gorrilaz parts don't mesh well. I think he did a pretty good job, considering how completely different in tone they are. But I seriously got chills listening to "Giggle Ghosties Inc.", it's that good

All the tracks were brilliant and many of the transitions were wonderfully handled, but I'd have to say my favorite tracks were Kids With Cupcakes, O Green Dress, Wonder Light and Cutie, as well as the ending of Discord Days, just for how brilliant the sync-up between the lyrics and the mood of the music was. Not to say the others weren't incredible as well, those were just my favorites.
