  • Story: The Rummy Business of Old Blooey

    by Cereal Velocity

    [Comedy]

    Author: Cloud Wander
    Description: If you will permit me, sir: on the eve of the Grand Galloping Gala, one of Mr. Barney Trotter's acquaintances has become entangled in a most ill-advised romantic situation. To extricate himself from this unfortunate predicament, this friend has sought out Mr. Trotter's invaluable assistance, and even accepted some small suggestions from Mr. Trotter's valet, Cheese. Given the delicacy of the matter, it is feared that, if all precautionary steps are not carefully taken, a farce may ensue.

      I may have to read it alot sooner than expected.
      I read a little bit to see, they're certainly right about Blueblood. It seems good.

      That was a most entertaining read. There is part of a sentence in there, a phrase if you will, which alone makes it worth reading.

      "preciousness of pangolins"

      Simply beautiful.

      You know there is a question that has been bugging me for a wail, Prince Blueblood is Princes Celestia's nephew, that means that he is the son of her brother or sister, but the only sister that Celestia has is Luna and she was on the Moon for a thousand years, so how is Prince Blueblood related to Celestia?

      According to Lauren, he's a distant nephew on Celestia's mother's side, many times removed (at least 52). If that helps. Don't think about it too hard. :)

      @Edwin B.

      His actual familial relationship is more like "cousin 18 times removed". He is the umpteen greats grandson of Celestia's mother's sister. But calling him her cousin would give the misleading impression that they were of an age so he's called "nephew" as a courtesy title.

      Oh my wocks and hoop soons, this was absolutely A-1, tophole, spiffing, and various other delightful Wodehousian adjectives! I'm amazed by how well this is written; Wodehouse's style is easily parodied, but that's deceptive; his stories are not simple things. Cloud Wander did a fantastic job at doing the intricacy of the original stories justice (and I'm frankly amazed at how perfectly Blueblood fits in as one of Bertie--sorry, Barney's chums, and amazed that the parallels never occurred to me before). Goodness knows I don't usually read fanfiction, but this just brightened up my whole morning. "That's our motto! Getting blotto!" ...Oh, my goodness. Thank you, Cloud Wander, for writing this. I just can't stop smiling.

      It's not his acentors fault he turned out a stuck up dimwit though.

      Alright I found time to read this.

      I'm very picky about comedy but I found this hillarious, absolutely hillarious, I loved it from the start, it's well written and the characters are beautifully done.

      It fits brilliantly and was well worth the read, improved my mood a fair bit. It really deserves its rating.

      Cheese is a wonderful butler and Barney is the best of high class dimwits with the heart exactly where it should be.
      I predict that it is going to become a six-star once enough people read and rate it, for surely it deserves it.
      Well-done.

      Ha! A great story. A little sad Valencia didn't go goo-goo over Barney. It certainly would have been funny! Barney might even have had a better chance at "reform" than Bloo-ey did. But the story as it was was fantastic. Thanks for writing and sharing. :)

There seems to be two types of wonderful pony fanficion: extended, serious minded epic adventures, and lighthearted shorts of comedic gold. This story definably deserves entry into the exclusive six star club, haven't read one quite this good since that Bluebood groundhog day one.

      Go forth viewer... go and read the everlovin f*** out of what is undoubtably one of the funnier things I have had privilege to read in life.

I can't rate it 5 stars in good conscience, since I believe it does fall short of Wodehouse's level of brilliance, but I really wish there was a rating option higher than 4 stars for me to give it. I came in with high expectations, and they were met, which is pretty amazing given Wodehouse's genius.

      Really? You're seriously knocking a star off because the guy writing for fun on the internet doesn't quite rise to the skill level of the classic novelist who had a career spanning 7 decades?

      I'm all for a decent level of expectations in our fanfic as far as writing skill, grammar and such, but if you're grading this stuff in relation to the skills of professional authors who have a boatload of natural talent and have spent years honing their skills, well I think you're being pretty unfair to the fanfic writer.

      @Edwin B.
      I have a theory about that. Celestia either ceremonially married or adopted the brother of one of Blueblood's distant ancestors. He died childless, so the title of "Prince" passed to his brother's line. This probably happened right after she banished Nightmare Moon; she needed a new castle, and the Duke of Canterlot was willing to give her his in return for a prestigious title. Everypony's happy.

      Until the little jackass is born.

      @Vegetalss4Technically, Jeeves (and I would assume Cheese) would be a valet. A butler serves the household- the Trotters, for example. A valet serves the man (or pony,as the case may be).

      Otherwise, excellent fic. I read every line in either Hugh Laurie or Stephen Fry's voice. Also... it would require more OCs, but pony-ied version of some J + W would be a jolly good time, what!

      I mean, you could probably have him react to the "Rarity in Canterlot" episode with his normal hilarious fashion faux pas.
