I think this has physically hurt me inside, I don't know if it's from the cuteness or the sad but got a focused dull ache in my upper abdomen While watching this. I'm fine now.
Ooof. I was already kinda sad and this made me even more sad... It's a really adorable and sweet song and animation though for sure. Ending really made me want to cry too. So sad. I feel your pain, Derpy. *gives her a nice big hug* :(
We've interpreted Ditzy Doo in a few different ways. There's the goofball Ditzy doing strange and silly things, and I love that. And then there's this, and I totally love this too.
One of the reasons I love her so much is because I was born with wall eyes too. I've had multiple surgeries to bring them back into alignment, but the fact is that the part of my brain that's supposed to coordinate eye movement just never developed properly. I'm not as bad as Ditzy here, but I'm still a little off. My mom occasionally tries to remind me to look with both eyes, but it's impossible to do so for extended periods of time. I'm stuck this way.
When I was young, I was particularly sensitive to any kind of teasing, and by extension, particularly prone to it. You know how some kids are. As an adult I'm long past that now, but It still hurts a little bit on the inside when I'm talking to someone new and on occasion they look around behind them because they can't tell who I'm talking to. I don't blame them for that, it's not their fault, but it still bothers me.
There's nothing wrong with poking fun at goofball Ditzy, but this side of her... I understand this side of her. I understand. I used to refer to her as Derpy as affectionately as the rest of you, but after this... No.
This is probably the saddest Ditzy Doo video I have ever seen. I sadly could not finish watching but that just means that it is an amazing video and I am not worthy to watch it. Good Job :)
Okay, that just plain isn't FAIR. Curse you fandom, you are too amazing! You keep blowing my mind like this, how am I ever going to get anything done with my life?
Aww... Well, the song was well written and had a very nice warm feel to it. The production was demo-level quality, to be sure, but as a demo it was fantastic.
And, let's face it - the song's absolutely adorable and bittersweet. I loved it.
Oh, Derpy, darling, I know you have eyes that are different, but that's not the important thing about you. We all love you for your silliness and your smiles and your bubbles. Always, always stay a silly filly. We love you more than you love muffins. <3
Very good song, and the drawings are charming. I could see this being used in an episode, which I suppose is the best compliment I could give. As much as I love to think of Derpy as a cheerful oddball who isn't affected by others' insults or snarky comments, I do think she would have gone through a period like this as an adolescent.
DITZY!!! All of my hugs and muffins, I almost want to say you're cuter then FLUTTERSHY!
I honestly need to get a Ditzy plushy now, so that I can hug Ditzy whenever I feel sad... Or feel sad for her because of a video like this. DARN THIS VIDEO, makes me so sad.
On a production level, there were some parts that were off key, the singing wasn't incredible, not BAD, but not incredible. Also some of the lines in the verses seemed forced, As if they were trying to say too much...
Does that make this bad? Eeeenope. It's not production quality, sure, but I agree with Overlong: It's a really good demo.
AWESOME! I was wondering when this would be done! Excellent job Pierce!
Pierce just has an excellent voice to be able to sing this in Derpy's voice. Her lyrics were perfect! I helped her with writing the actual music and played Keys and Bass for her.
This song itself was very well done and a beautiful thing to listen to. Honestly, like everyone has said here, manly tears were shed by many. Many a many, many. Beautiful work.
However, I do have to agree with some of the criticisms. The vocals did sound a little forced in some parts, but I think if the actress was to just take a breath and let the words flow, it would sound 10X better. The levels were a little out of balance; I thought there was to much background at some parts and you couldn't really hear the vocals all that well, and my last big complaint would be the mic quality.
Honestly, I would love to see this remade at some point with the above alterations, but again, do not take these as, "BEHH! Bad song!" but instead as, "Beautiful work, here's how we could make it legendary."
Personally I would love to see that in full color and fully animated it will look awesome! The fact that a background pony could become so popular that the she becomes a bigger star than the main ponies without saying a single line is just mind blowing. =^.^=
unlike someponies, i realize that its better and more fitting for the voice to miss some of the notes and strain to get some. this is derpy thats trying to sing and i think she did an outstanding job of filling that position. this was a very moving and inspirational song. well done.
Every time I listen to this song, it makes me want to sing it... I mean, there are a LOT of songs that I'll sing, but I don't listen to them and go "I REALLY want to sing this song," at least, not like I do with this song.
I absolutely adore this song, even with my earlier comment.
This is so cute, she really is like me. I hate that everyone had give her mean names, & they ended up sticking like that. Some people just can't see what a great friend, & pony she is, & same with me. I love her, we are the same.

ReplyDeleteVary well made video!
ReplyDeleteThe singer did a good job singing in Derpy's non canon voice.
The art style is simplistic and well made.
The lyrics fits Derpy pretty well.
Overall, it is a pretty good sad song and a pretty good video to go with said song. Well done BaldDumboRat!

ReplyDelete...Not in a creepy way of course.
I LOVE YOU, DERPY!
...Because that song made me want to say it twice.
This was just perfect. Seth captured it with
ReplyDelete"Honestly if they give her even one third the characterization we have assigned her, in the actual show, she will be the best pony ever. "
The ending made me tear up :(
ReplyDeleteif they gave derpy the characterization we give her.
ReplyDeleteshe would be too awesome for the shows daww meater to handle!
@RainbowDash159 This show INVENTED the D'aww meter!!
ReplyDeleteI hope there is a show for derpy later on in season 2, or at least season 3

ReplyDeleteNot bad; not bad at all.
ReplyDeleteSo derpy always just pretends not to remember what her cutiemark means. It's nothing that you can tell anypony you just met in just a few sentences.
ReplyDeleteThe singing made my ears hurt a little, but it was still a really nice song. I'd love to see Ditzy get her own episode one day. :)
ReplyDeletevery, very moving. *hugs Derpy*
ReplyDeleteI've never wanted to hug Derpy more then I do right now.
ReplyDeleteVery good song, and the drawings are charming. I could see this being used in an episode, which I suppose is the best compliment I could give. @Nintyuk It was your soul. When a human that has one of these witnesses something terribly sad, it tends to hurt. Congratulations, you have a soul!
ReplyDeleteyay!
ReplyDeleteI played guitar in that :D
Now they need to give that poor girl a few voice lessons.
ReplyDeleteNot that it was awful, but a few of the notes she tried to hit did cause my ears to try and cose themselves.
@Vulcan539
ReplyDeleteSuddenly, I'm imagining a FiM musical.
It's glorious.
Verry moving vid. :(
