ReplyDeleteWAIT WHAT?
ReplyDeleteI'm scared. D=
wait what?..... Now we're shipping inanimate objects with ponies?
ReplyDeletei read the first page. not sure if to run before it's too late. <.<
ReplyDeleteDid somone seriously ship Big Mac and Smartypants?
ReplyDeleteMUST READ!
@Jango-Fett
ReplyDeleteYes. Yes they did. The best part is that it's not a comedy.

ReplyDeleteUm.
@Nimbus Buster
ReplyDeleteoh god... that's almost as bad as that idea to ship Loony Lovegood and Luna.... <_<
"Do raggedy dolls dream of studly stallions?"
ReplyDeleteDoes Applejack grow pears?
This is not as bad as it sounds. I can assure all of you.
ReplyDeleteStill makes more sense than BraeMac.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I need to try this out. Its a whole new kind of day for me. First M/M shipping, and now inanimate object shipping. Awesome. Both involving Big Macintosh. Yay Big Macintosh :D
ReplyDeleteJust read it, it's great, worth the read, a ship that's unusual enough to not want me to barf but still ordinary enough for people who actually like the genre to recognize it.
ReplyDeleteThat... Was awesome! One was giggling the entire way through like a cat who's been locked in a fish and fowl storage room! That was so very wellxwritten, and to those of you who are hesitant to read it, don't be! There's a reason why it says FRIEND shipping. Just... give it a try, you wont be disappointed!
ReplyDelete*SPOILER ALERT!*
Trevor feels that Smartypants got hyped, sorry. If she could have any wish she wanted, then why not to be alive? That's the first thing to pop into ones head, but that? That just feels like she got the short end of it, if you know what I mean. (Then again, that would also be VERY freaky at the same time, since she's a doll and everything, which would have made everyponys fears well-founded...)

Not bad, but definitely not great either. Fluttershy seemed a bit out of character (too confident) and there were issues with the writing as well. Still, good effort.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I... erm... I have no idea what to say about what I just read. Is this really what you lot do for entertainment?
ReplyDeleteSeemed weird at first, but actually turned out to be a good story. I recommed reading it.
ReplyDeleteSPOILERS
Agree with Trevor though - given a free wish, surely you'd choose to be a real mare permanently. That way you could either thank Big Mac, or pretend to be a stranger and get him to fall for you or whatnot. Surely anything other than a 1 min appearance that could be mistaken for a dream before returning to being an inanimate object.
It would ruin the message at the end I spose, but still.
Sorry, didn't mean to ramble.
Nicely written, but not really my cup of tea.
ReplyDelete3/5
This was actually really sweet to read. :D
ReplyDeleteIt was cute enough that I didn't mind the occasionally stumbly writing.
ReplyDeleteMORE SPOILERS
By the way, I think that it's very possible to write it in such a way that Smarty pants doesn't wish to be alive, but it perhaps would help if you gave some reasoning for it (maybe a line about not wanting to change what you have always been, or respect for his growing implied relationship with Fluttershy). Just my thoughts on resolving what few people seem fixated on without altering the direction of the story.
*spoilers*
ReplyDeleteSmartypants is a doll - it is not in the nature of all creatures to be ambitious, and it was clear the doll had never thought anything past how much she thought of Big Macintosh, and it simply wanted him to know. A kindly gesture without intruding on his life, if you ask me.
smarty was adorkable in this story and I really enjoyed the ending
ReplyDeleteI'm reminded of The Velveteen Rabbit, personally. A more... interesting take on it, but still.
ReplyDeleteWat.
ReplyDeleteThe strangest thing, they have a documentary about this exact thing, except between US and inanimate objects. :0
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this. Just the honesty and innocence behind it all gives me that special tugging in my heart and that happy aching in my eyes and throat. I agree with ToonNinja that there is a bit of Velveteen Rabbit to it, one of my favorites from my childhood. Very well done.
ReplyDelete@Sebiale
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't your cup of tea, why did you read it in the first place? I mean you even acknowledged it was well written right there in your post.
Next time instead of rating, just leave. I'm putting this in the nicest words I can think of right now, despite your comment coming off as completely pompous and outright stupid.
Thank you.
This wonderful story is distinctly allegorical to me.
ReplyDeleteIt seemed like the years were dragging on in increasing darkness, and I'd just kind of accepted my fate. Until MLP: FiM came along, and brought back the simple fun of the innocent but witty and silly cartoons I grew up with, but with characters even more deeply lovable.
How long we keep this rediscovered joy is uncertain. Maybe people in general don't understand. Maybe most of the people involved in the show itself are a bit baffled; certainly they know they are doing good and clever work, but are a bit puzzled by the adoring fandom.
Perhaps that's why it's such a big wish, then, for us, as plain old random misunderstood bronies on the Internet, to truly convey to the creators, how much joy these ponies have brought into what is, for many of us, an otherwise dark existence.
And btw, I never stopped sleeping with my stuffed animals, though it required some pretty careful concealment during my time in the military ;-)
Why isn't this 6 stars? I can't express how touching this story was. It brings back the feelings I had for my childhood toy.
ReplyDeleteI need to stop reading these kinds of stories in succession.
@Ragneki5880
ReplyDeleteI think you are confusing 'nostalgia' for 'quality writing'.
As it was, this story wasn't bad, but it sure as hell fell apart near the end, especially with how strangely ambivalent Big McIntosh was in not caring about a stranger in his room. This leads to a relatively large plothole near the end when he just gives the doll away to his son... I mean, did he just forget about how the stranger in his room turned back into the doll? It's never really addressed.
@Nick Nack:
ReplyDeleteSure it was. When AJ entered the room, the spell was broken, so he automatically assumed that ut was a dream, and because it was so embarrassing, he out it as far out of his mind as he could.

I wanted to like this, I wanted to love it, especially with hints of Flutter/Mac, but it just didn't grab me enough. I didn't have a problem with the simplicity of Smarty's wish, I just didn't really feel anything from the story.
ReplyDeleteThis has a kinda Toy Story feel to it... not bad :)
ReplyDeleteNot sure if the shipping part with the doll was neccessary. I don't think it added much. Still, I don't feel it hurts the story either. Overall, enjoyable enough. Anything that bothers me about the story is purely personal and doesn't need addressing. Fun enough story, even if its a bit uneventful. Fluttershy's "you were quite bashful back then" comment stuck with me.... Especially after BigMac agreed with her. I mean, seriously? Silly Fluttershy :)
ReplyDeleteafter reading this the first thing I thought about was my stuffed dog, who ive been sleeping with since I was 3 months old. almost made me tear up a bit.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, great story! Very well-written and a great idea overall.
This story is really sweet, and well written. Also, that one particular part with Applejack is hilarious. Don't be scared by the description, people!
