It's unclear if this system is going to continue to expand, but from what I've been hearing outside the USA, these things are selling ridiculously well. I'm curious about how they will be treated once they head to the states.
I'm a bit disappointed though. This is the PERFECT way to release some background ponies. Even if they don't have the fanon names, it would be amazing to see an Octavia or Bonbon pop up.

ReplyDeleteThey have 5 molds. Twilight, Rarity, Applejack, Pinkie Pie, and the Fluttershy/Rainbow Dash mold. There were 24 before. I certainly hope to see the product line expand too, BUT BRING IT TO AMERICA, WOULD YOU HASBRO!!!

ReplyDeleteCome on, it has "Made in China" written all over it... These recolors are just lazy and just seem so cheesy. If they put maybe a little more effort into the design for these things and use different vectors for the boxes (there's like a billion background ponies to use, so no excuses) they'd be cooler.

ReplyDeleteMy Little Pony has always been about the repaints. Thing is, G3 has at least triple the number of molds.
ReplyDeleteMore importantly, the hair isn't molded. So there's still a million ponies who all look like Kimono body-wise, but they don't have the same obvious hairstyle.

I wouldn't normally care for recolours (hell I can't even get any of the mane 6), but I do like the colour scheme for Tealove, and as an Englishman I do love Tea.

ReplyDeleteSome of the first series Bling Bag ponies ARE background ponies. Roseluck, Flower Wishes (Daisy in the show), and Lemon Hearts to be exact.

So the blind bags are at series 2 now, if it stays in demand and sells well propably by series 3 they'll finally have more show accurate molds and an increase in background ponies.
ReplyDeleteI know from past experience that it can be a bit of a waiting game. For Teen Titans it took to wave 4 or 5 before they finally made a Raven or Starfire that looked like the tv version, heck it took 4 years before they made a megazord figure you could use with the smaller Power Ranger figures and 17 years before they made a smaller one of the original one from the 1st show.
I do wonder if the naming process is just random or they actually have a list of names they're allowed to use?
