Newbie Artist Training Grounds Alumni Group
The Alumni Group over on Deviant Art is continuing the Artist Training Grounds event Phoe ran here a few weeks ago. Instead of happening every night, it happens once a week instead, so it's a bit more manageable.

Strategy RPG Pony Game In Progress
Another crazy pony project is currently in progress! This one emulates all of those overly addicting grid based strategy games (Like Disgaea or Fire Emblem).
It's still in really early alpha (He just started it a few days ago in fact!), but it looks like he is making some good progress so far. Apparently it's his year long school project, meaning he will probably see this one to the end! Go check it out at the ponychan thread!

Metrocon Brony Writeup
A Convention recently went down in Tampa, Florida focusing primarily on anime. Apparently a whole mess of pony merch was available, and a couple of people were running around dressed up like various characters from the show.It's pretty cool to see it spreading to more than just websites and internet hangouts
I'm still disappointed at the lack of Trixie cosplay. I mean... cape and wizard hat... you can't beat that!

My Little Pwnage Team Aiming for the Call of Duty $1,000,000 Tournament
Over in Australia, a group of 4 going by the name of My Little Pwnage is aiming to take on the Australian division for the right to compete in the Call of DutyXP competition for the million dollar prize. Go wish them luck on steam!

Hasbro really need to get more merch out for the older people. We have so much disposable income to spend on ponies but they are not making it easy!

Anyways, I loved the idea of Sethisto cube but I guess you do need a Ponysona right? I would blandly suggest using a variant of the Trixie color scheme, as I'm too tired at the moment to think of anything better :/
Actually, maybe a soft blue and yellow would look nice for the coat and mane respectively.
Hmm, I don't really approve of that album art. But the music is great, so I guess I just have to deal with it...

As I remember there were already several attempts at Seth's ponification during Newbie Artist Training Grounds event. Obviously none of these got approved so Trixie's colors (among others) are out of the question.
ReplyDeleteSeth, I'd say focus on what your mark should be, then worry about colors. Besides, colors can wait until the end, after the body and everything else is drawn correctly.

ReplyDeleteI was at Metrocon and I kept a keen eye out for anything Pony. But other than the artist's alley, there wasn't much more than was featured in the writeup. I did however find out that professional cosplayer Yaya Han is selling ears, wings and horns in her online shop (didn't bring any to the con, >.<). And one of these days, I will attempt to get my friends cosplaying as the mane cast in kimono, since my friends know how to make those.

Subber if they subtitle something, Translator if they rewrite text into their native language, Dubber if they dub over it. As a fan of a metric-ton of anime and sentai, I'm well aware of the differences.

ReplyDeleteAm I the only one disturbed by the fact this artist is charging for the music? I was under the impression one of the tenants of the brony fandom was that work would be provided for free, in part to avoid copyright violations and in part to 'build the community since friendship is magic'? Charging for the music seems like a cheap shot at the members of the fandom: would this music really be readily bought if it weren't publicized on Equestria Daily/associated with ponies? In which case it seems that Hasbro would be entitled to a majority of the revenue (trifle amount that it likely is, and why they aren't pursuing it) since the widespread support of MLP is the main reason the music is being bought, not because on the merits of the music. And the music itself is ripped, just listening to the AppleJack song is only a slight variation on Donna Summer's Hot Stuff, again relying predominantly on the professionalism of the base song, in which case the original artist deserves the credit.
I think this blog should seriously consider whether or not is appropriate to publicize content that is not provided for free from the members of the community.

But yeah, it's pretty awesome to see some presence in high level esports. Bloodline Champions has a tournament winning team called "Rainbow Power Ponies" too.
Seth needs a cool colors pallet with a midnight blue to accentuate his nocturnal habits. I'd agree with a silver coat and blue mane, but that's too similar to not-best-pony Rarity.

ReplyDeleteNice that my suspicions are confirmed about pony cosplayers being at METROCON. This was the first time I haven't worked the con in 7 years, but I figured there'd be pony fans there. I'll be working at Shadocon in Tampa in November and I look forward to running into pony fans there. I'll be showing some pony-related videos in the Video Rooms for sure and may run a MLP:FiM panel, too--if nobody has committed to doing one by September or so.

If no one commits to doing a panel by mid-September, I'd say there's an 80% chance I will do one. Hope to see you there!
