"So Many Wonders" sounds quite natural compared to the others - considering the time-honored tradition of casting women as VAs for young boy roles.

Wow, this was really impressive. And here I was expecting to hear a bunch of bronies doing karaoke.
ReplyDeleteFlutterguy and Applejack's voices sounded the most natural by far, though RD and TS' voices were pretty spot on as well. Only Pinkie and Rarity wavered in believability, but that's understandable seeing as how they have the most feminine voices and inflections of the bunch (lots of rolled syllables and high squeaks).
Consarnit, now I've got the urge to draw the cast gender-swapped...
The pitch shiftiness still makes them sound really feminine. It would be cool if somepony did an entire redub.

Dash and Applejack sound really good in Winter Wrap Up. You can bet Dash is just sooo bishie. Twilight's excellent, too.
ReplyDeleteRarity's colt voice in Art of the Dress works pretty well. DEFINITELY very metro, which fits him. The other 6 aren't as successful.
Definitely agree with a lot of people that Pinkie Pie is just really difficult to sound like a guy. It's so squeaky, though at times it reminded me of Spike's voice.

ReplyDeleteAgreed on Rari-guy. I liked his sound much better in Winter Wrap Up than in Art of The Dress. It did fit the television stereotype of a metro fashion buff pretty well. Pinkie Guy sounds like a little kid, which is acceptable too.

I think that So Many Wonders sounds the best, though it certainly sounds like a kid (which makes sense). Actually, that Flutterguy voice reminds me a little of "Go the Distance." Rarity's in 'Art of the Dress' sounds odd though; you can tell it was key-changed.

Rainbow dash in Art of the Dress sounds like a 15 year old who is in the first few stages of puberty. Flutterguy works in so many wonders which is amusing on a few levels. Art of the dress is a miss.

Not too bad, but I was expecting male re-recording instead of just lowering the pitch. they mostly sound like gay males (not that there's anything wrong with that) and it kinda breaks it for me. Any bronies wanna do some recordings and make a true colt-version? I think it would be a fun project!

I don't know the details of successful gender bending of songs, but one would think there's SOMETHING you could do to smooth out some of those voices; several of them have a rather unnatural flavour.

it sounds like someone just took the decibel levels and dropped them by a few. Even the instrumental music is lower

Then as the song went on, it sounded like a cross between Stewie and Steven Magnet. Seriously, something ain't right here. I can't even listen to the whole thing because I start laughing too hard.

ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of people don't consciously realize is that the difference between male and female speaking (and singing) isn't in the pitch. There are mannerisms that are predominate in one gender or another and that more than anything else is how we identify a speaker. So, yeah, less so colts and more so deep-voiced mares, and it doesn't matter what kind of editing you do, it's not gonna change that.
That being said So Many Wonders still came out nicely.
