  • RD Day: The Classic Rainbow Dash Attack

Still breaking out the classics while I arrange stuff for the rest of the day! A long time ago Adult Swim released the now classic Robot Unicorn Attack to their website bringing about a new passion for magical horses and a love for Erasure.

Obviously when pony came along and there was a deep desire to ponify everything Robot Unicorn Attack was a prime candidate. Thus we got Rainbow Dash Attack!

Click the link below to play Rainbow Dash Attack and relive a bit of pony history!

  • Pony History of the Day: PONIES - The Anthology Series

A long time ago, in a galaxy that just happens to be our own, the Golden Summer of 2011 was just beginning and a flood of pony art, media, and more was spreading across the internet. Among the wave of content came a particular piece that hadn't quite been seen before in the pony fandom: an anthology.

While edits to the show content had been made before they were typically singular works, lasting a few minutes if not a little longer. PONIES - The Anthology turned that all on its head by taking the efforts of several talented Youtubers and combining them into a nearly half hour long, high quality endeavor.

Amazing for its time the production became highly acclaimed and was eventually continued in PONIES - The Anthology II and further installments, installments that last to this day. Not many things from our past can be said to still be going strong five years after pony began, but Anthology bucks that trend and doesn't seem to be stopping anytime soon!

Check on after the break for all the main Anthology videos and thanks to the various folks that have suggested this series over the past several history posts.

  • Pony History of the Day: Las Pegasus Unicon - And the Near Collapse of Convention Guests

The year was 2013, and the Brony fandom had just begun ramping up it's convention domination.  We had a few major successful events under our belt, but behind the scenes, Hasbro was still trying to figure out how open they should be in terms of show guests attending community sponsored events.

When Las Pegasus Unicon first contacted us, we were pretty excited. The thought of taking our pony friendship entourage to vegas sounded absolutely awesome. Even if the event itself was boring, we had an awesome city to explore.

How could a convention in one of the cheapest vacation destinations to stay at and fly to, possibly fail? Somehow, this one pulled it off! Learn the behind the scenes tale below the break!

  • Pony History of the Day: The -Licious Series

Tonight we've got another set of oldies for you guys to sink your teeth into! Many a meme were started back in the early days of pony, even by some of the staff. Back in early 2012, Tara Strong posted up a tweet parodying the song 'Fergalicious', a tweet that would set in motion one of the fandoms early memes.

Just a few days later Tara vocalized her parody using Twilight Sparkle's voice, furthering the spread of the early meme that culminated a few days after that in BlackGryphon's animated Twlightlicious video.

From there Black made a whole series of -Licious videos, finishing up his series in late 2012 with Applelicious. Since then the meme has been brought up every so often.

The meme permanently cemented itself into pony history when it was seen canonically in Pinkie Apple Pie!

Updated: Thanks to all of you who found the Rarity clip on Black's dA! I forgot about that one. Also didn't know about the Discord one and completely forgot about the line from Pinkie Apple Pie. All have been added to the list!

Check on after the break for the whole series and thanks to BillNeigh for the suggestion!

  • Pony History of the Day: PONY.MOV

You guys asked for them, so whether you like it or not we're going to be posting about the PONY.MOV series. The series has had a strong following since it's release, owing to the fact HotDiggedyDemon already had a big following from his flash works and the fact that APPLE.MOV when it was released in late 2011 was still one of the few examples of higher quality animation in the fandom.

Love them or hate them they are still a part of our history and if you haven't seen them yet check on after the break for the full playlist and judge for yourself.

Thanks to SpaceJam for suggesting the series in the last post and to all the others that suggested it before him!

Super warning! The PONY.MOV series isn't for the faint of heart and is certainly within the mature category when ratings are concerned.

Also, Seth wanted me to put here that he doesn't care much for the PONY.MOV series either. Now that I have fulfilled that obligation I can get a cookie.

  • Pony History - Pony Physics Presentation and The Rise of "Presenting Ponies in Class"

WAY back in the early days of 2011, someone decided it would be fun to analyze the cartoon physics of Friendship is Magic. From the Sonic Rainboom to the various falls and slapstick humor hits we had come to know and love over the years,  his class was exposed to just about all of it.

From then on, we saw a FLOOD of people presenting ponies to class. Some were pretty... awkward. Turns out not everyone can present ponies perfectly! The physics guy pulled it off though, and Hasbro even sent him a bunch of pony toys in thanks.

Head on down below for a physics presentation, with ponies!

  • Pony History of the Day - Rainbow Dash Presents, DinkySharkFighter and Mentally Advanced

Next up on Pony History of the Day is the Rainbow Dash Presents, Mentally Advanced and DinkySharkFighter series by FiMFlamFilosophy! Years ago, when the fandom was still in the Golden Age of 2011, two abridged series made their debut on the pony scene: Friendship is Witchcraft (which we have spotlit already) and the Mentally Advanced Series. While several abridged series would soon follow, these two are arguably the most popular and remain so to this day.

While the Friendship is Witchcraft universe is mainly centered around the abridged series proper and the songs that were created for it, Mentally Advanced grew from its roots of retelling episodes in FiM to a number of spinoff series: Rainbow Dash Presents and the short lived DinkySharkFighter.

Even though Mentally Advanced and Rainbow Dash Presents have not yet ended, their history is as deep as the fandom itself and is a perfect example of the evolution of a long running series, much like how FiM itself has evolved over the years.

So come on a journey with me to the early days and check out the history of FiMFlamFilosophy and Petirep after the break!

Before we start though, I want to thank those of you who suggested this entry! Make sure to leave your suggestions in the comments.

  • Pony History of the Day - Derpy's Removal and the #SaveDerpy Campaign to Get Her Back!

Save Derpy Pony History of the Day

Derpy Hooves is one of the biggest deals in fandom character adoption we have ever seen. Of all the background ponies over the years, she has always been one of the most significant to both the fandom, and the show staff. Things got a little rocky back in 2012 though, right at the peak of the brony craze!

Below the break, lets dive into Derpy Hooves and how we eventually saved her!

(In other news, we have a schedule for these pony history posts now. Expect them on Sunday, Tuesday, and thursday!)

  • Pony History of the Day: The Hub

When one thinks of ponies there are few things as closely tied to FiM as The Hub, the network that came out of nowhere that we had little expectations for when ads for it popped up on other major networks. It looked like another cash grab by a major toy company and most of us left it at that until it premiered on October 10, 2010 and a magical little show about pastel ponies came into our lives.

After that magical day The Hub became more than just another network and became the home base for a brand new phenomenon: Bronies. It wasn't until after the first season ended that the Hub began embracing the newfound Brony community, creating a huge shoutout to the fandom with the original Equestria Girls promo back in early 2011 and sending an extended edition straight to EqD.

The staff over at The Hub created a number of promos for FiM over the years and were happy to talk with the community and us here at EqD. So when it was announced that the Hub would be no more and would be changed to Discovery Family we were all a bit sad to see the network that started ponies disappear.

For those of you who are new to ponies within the past year or miss the cool things the Hub used to do, check on after the break for a bunch of Hub promos! We've embedded a lot of really great examples of the Hub's greatness, but make sure to check the end of the post for a full playlist!

Also, make sure to give us some suggestions in the comments for our next feature!

  • Pony History of the Day - Pinkie Says Goodnight

One thing that was completely absent from Season 5 was our nightly pre-episode Pinkie Says Goodnight comics! Starting way back in 2011 with a simple sketchy Pinkie Pie talking to the audience in the usual 4th wall breaking way she does, Undead-Niklos created a trend of nightly comics for every episode all the way up to the end of season 4!

There were a few missed here and there, but for the most part, Pinkie was there every time to wish us a pleasant rest while waiting for some brand new cartoon horse. She brought on guest ponies, referenced current events, and generally guaranteed some fun for the night.

Head on down below the break for a few of them. Maybe we can get something like this going for season 6?

  • Pony History of the Day - MrPoniator Animations

Like Madmax from a few days ago, MrPoniator came in after almost every episode with a short little animation making fun of what happened within. Some were creepy, some were hilarious, and others were a little weird, but you pretty much always counted on that in the end. He still does new ones everyone once in a while, but not usually targeting the episode.

Expect a lot of oldschool fandom references in these. I bet some of you won't even recognize them!

Head on down below for a mix of his styles.

  • Pony History of the Day - Artist : Moe

Way back in the early days of the fandom, a lone artist going by the name of Moe would mysteriously upload images to our old image dump called Ponibooru. He never opened a Deviant Art page or Tumblr, and simply let the art swarm throughout the fandom.

Even without that exposure, Moe art was always incredibly impressive. It's something you'd see in one of those high end painting galleries or something, but with cartoon horses hanging out in epic backgrounds.

Head on down below the break to check it all out!

  • Pony History of the Day - Fallout Equestria

One of the most significant fanworks we have ever seen over the past five years was the fanfic up above. Fallout Equestria pretty much spawned it's own humongous self-sustaining fandom, with THOUSANDS of pieces of fan art, music, hundreds of spin-off fanfics, fully fledged animation projects, a massive SFM community, and more. This is the best example out there of what a fandom that loves a topic can do.

While not everyone has read it the entire 620,282 word long story, I think everyone is at least somewhat aware of it in some way.

Below the break, get a few examples of what we have created in it's honor!

  • Pony History of the Day: Madmax Comics

During the earliest days of the fandom when everything was fresh and new, and the world of weird trends in full swing, one lone artist was the queen of all things comedy. If something happened in the show, you could expect three glorious panels the day after. If a new pony meme was taking over on 4chan, the comic was inevitable.

Madmax was basically the Pixelkitties of old. Everyone loved her style and humor. Everything she did was a celebration of what we were all involved with at the time.

Unfortunately, she has been silent on Deviant Art for over a year now. Hopefully some day we will see her great return!

Until then, head on down below the break for some of her comics.

  • Pony History of the Day: Friendship is Witchcraft

Through the years many memes have come and gone within our fandom but some from our earliest days still maintain a healthy following even to this day. I'm sure most of you out there have seen the curiously cute pictures of Sweetie Bot, like the one above, the phrase 'It's Not Creepy...' or have been confused why Shining Armor likes corn dogs so much.

Well, you guys can all credit the Friendship is Witchcraft series created by Sherclop Pones, a duo team led by Griffin Lewis and Jenny Nicholson. Starting back in 2011, the series was one of the first big FiM abridged series, giving us a cast of crazy characters and quite a few songs that were just as catchy as ones found in the show. Sadly they were also one of the big series hit by the numerous Youtube takedowns over the the years, but has since been uploaded again.

Check on after the break for the episodes (reuploaded thanks to AstrumSpark) as well as select songs from the series! Special thanks to Armosk, GoatTheHatEater, and those from the previous posts before they were nuked for the suggestion!
  • Pony History of the Day: Epic Cupcake/Wub Time

Back in the day animations were far and in between, but a lot of those early productions are still remembered fondly today by us older pony folk. One such series was the Epic Cupcake/Wub Time animations by Alligator Tub Productions!

Parodying the extreme style of Epic Meal Time, these animations gave us a lot of hardy laughs and smiles.

So check on after the break for the Epic series as well as a couple other clips from Alligator Tub Productions. Thanks to Toxic Mario and Nu11u5 for the idea of spotlighting this classic series.

Also guys, thanks to the comment wipe we had today I lost your suggestions on the past Pony History posts, so if you commented before make sure to do so again so I can get your suggestions again. Thanks!

  • Pony History of the Day: Classic Pony Music - 2011

You guys have spoken and these are here to stay! Thank you all for the positive reception for these little features, I'm quite excited to keep this one rolling and I'm glad to see you all are happy with it as well. We got a lot of suggestions last night so keep it up guys!

For tonight we're going to be focusing a bit on some classics in the music scene. It seemed appropriate considering the recent discussion we've had about music and thanks to TGap, AlagomSwede, and Bolt The Super-Pony we've got a nice selection for you to jam out to tonight.

Check on after the break for some music and make sure to leave your suggestions in the comments!

  • Pony History of the Day: Two Best Sisters Play

I was pleasantly surprised how many of you checked out the Italian MLP intro last night! Quite a few of you had never seen it before and it was a lovely nostalgia trip for those of you who hadn't seen it in awhile.

This got me thinking and after talking it over with the others we're going to try something new here late at night on EqD! Based on comments about Pony History of the Day in our Roundups and comments wishing the Blast From The Past posts would come back I can tell you guys want to relive some of the best of pony and see reactions from new fans who might not have gotten a chance to check out the classics.

While I want to continue the Blast From The Past posts they can be a bit time consuming researching the different histories for the pieces we put into them and writing up a whole article. As such I thought this feature might be a nice stop gap in between the longer Blast From The Past posts with the goal of these posts being to feature some old content every day or two.

This is where you guys come in! Since this will hopefully be a much more frequent feature I want you old veterans reading this to leave your suggestions in the comments and each day I'll try my best to pick something from the comments and credit those for the suggestion. Hopefully this will help some of you who suggested we get more into the fun by reading the comments and such.

So what do you guys think? Tell me yay or nay in the comments and we'll see how this feature goes!

In the meantime, let's relive the past by taking a look at the Two Best Sisters Play series, one of the best animation projects the fandom has seen! Get them all after the break.

    Warning: Extreme language

  • MLP Italian Opening Just Because

I was going through my old pony music when I found this gem again. For those of you new to the fandom this was probably the best opening from one of the foreign dubbed versions of the show.

It's pretty epic! So whether it is new to you or if you're an old timer like me enjoy some lovely music from the past after the break.
