  • My Little Pony the Movie Prequel Special Edition Now Available in Japan!

For those of you collecting the Japanese Translation of the IDW Comics, the My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel Trade Paperback has officially been released in Japan! (Order here from Amazon Japan)

While the cover for this volume uses the films, marketing assets, don't let that fool you into thinking a ton of effort was put into making this volume stand out from the previous comic collections put out by Phase 6. They really made this volume live up to the "Special Edition" part of the title.

To start, this edition collects not only the 4 issue My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel comic mini-series (by Ted Anderson, Andy Price, and Heather Breckel) but also collects My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic issues #67 and #68 (by Jeremy Whitley, Andy Price, and Heather Breckel). Those issues contain the Two Part "Tempest's Tale" follow-up comic starring Tempest Shadow as she adjusts to life after the Storm King. This is the first time that story has been published internationally!

Second, when My Little Pony The Movie was released in Japan, a Japanese Original Language Comic was created and published by Phase 6. This manga tells the story of what the Mane 6 were up to right before the events of the movie.

If that isn't enough to entice everyone in the world to buy this comic (Order here from Amazon Japan) then this last point absolutely should. Unlike its American counterpart from IDW Publishing, this trade paperback collection is published as a full sized comic.

Does all of them above make it the best version of the My Little Pony: The Movie Prequel Trade Paperback? Yes, yes it does. (Order here from Amazon Japan)

  • Phase 6 Unveils 3rd Japanese Translated MLP Comic Volume

Tonight we have some great news from the land of the rising sun! The next volume in the Japanese translation of the MLP Comics has been revealed!

There are two variants for this edition. The first is the standard edition, which you can find on the left will be available to order internationally via Amazon Japan shortly after the book is released on October 27th.

Yes, you read that right the book is coming out THIS SATURDAY!

The release for the limited edition cover, which features the Equestria Girls in the work attire from the 2018 shorts is to be determined.

Now… I'm absolutely floored that these two covers were created by Marvel Superstar Comic Artist Gurihiru.

Gurihiru is currently working on The Unstoppable Wasp with MLP Comics Mainstay writer Jeremy Whitley.

Oh Bobby!!! I think I know who Jeremy Whitley's next MLP comic artist partner should be! And they are not exclusive to Marvel.

  • Japan's MLP Pop-up Store to Return on August 25th!

I swear, one of these days I'll be able to afford to fly to Japan for one of these events…

Right. Be bitter later about not being rich. Report on MLP news now.

For those My Little Pony fans in the beautiful country of Japan, you're in luck! The My Little Pony Pop-Up store will be returning from August 25th though September 7th! This Pop-up store will be located in the huge Japanese toy store Kiddy Land - Harajuku (address: 6-1-9 Jingu-mae, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo 150-0001).

To compare the size of the store, it's about the same size as the former Times Square location of Toys "R" Us or Hamleys in London. This store is huge!

To celebrate the occasion, Hasbro and Sanrio have teamed up to produce limited edition My Little Pony/Kiki & Lala merchandise. Like Mugs, iPhone Cases, canvas prints, and a whole bunch of other stuff I can't identify on the flyer released by the My Little Pony Japan twitter.

In addition to the crossover merchandise, there will be other limited edition items available for purchase created by Hasbro's Japanese MLP Licensed partners. Like for instance a new "Summer Special" variant cover by s_bis for the Phase 6 Translated edition of MLP: Pony Tales Volume 2! And two canvas prints created in collaboration between Phase 6 and SEGA Toys featuring Sara Richard's covers for MLP: Microseries issues 8 & 10!

If you happen to find yourself in Tokyo between August 25th and September 7th, consider stopping by and checking this place out!

Now if only I could figure out what the QR code on the flyer is talking about…

Special thanks to Stinken1 and Ayu  for the heads up and the information!

  • REVIEW: Phase 6 Edition of My Little Pony: Pony Tales Volume 2

    It's Japan time everyone!

Though the official Japanese dub had ended a few years ago, the MLP comics are now being translated at a fairly regular pace.

The second volume of the Phase 6 edition of the My Little Pony comics is now out in Japan! What makes this edition unique from the other versions published around the world is that there are two unique covers designed for them! Both are illustrated by IDW Cover veteran, and Japan Native, Kaori "sbis" Matsuo, which makes them a delightful collectors item for the IDW Comic collector.

Which is the point of view I shall be reviewing the edition on. How does the trade dress work in this edition, and is it worth the expense of shipping internationally from Japan?

As for reviewing the translation, I'm going to skip out on that. I am not qualified to rate a japanese translation of an english comic for one simple reason: I can't read japanese.

So is the book worth it to collect? You'll find out in the full review after the break!
  • My Little Pony: Pony Tales Volume 2 to be Published in Japan!

Greetings everyone! Today Equestria Daily brings you news out of the land of the rising sun. In Yokohama Japan, there was an MLP fan meetup today, and to everyone's surprise there was a huge announcement from Phase 6.

For those unaware, Phase 6 acquired the license for translating and publishing the IDW My Little Pony comic series after Village Books ceased publishing MLP Comics after their initial volume tanked. Anyways, the cover art for this volume, created by Japan native and veteran IDW Comic Cover artist S-bis, was revealed!

Isn't it beautiful? Love his work. I hope to meet him one of these days.

Like the original english version, this comic volume will collect issues 7-10 of the Micro Series. It has a price point of 1,800¥ ($16.51 USD). For those looking to order it online, it's not yet available to order on Amazon Japan (grumbles) but the ISBN is known and is 978-4-909434-10-4. So the book will be easy to look up once it goes on sale.

To which the street date is May 18th, 2018! Less than a month to go! Are you excited? Cause I'm excited! More ponies are going to be in Japan! And as a special treat for those who happen to live in Japan, you can find an order from for it after the break!

Special thanks to Sticken1 for the heads up!
