It's a new month! That means new changes, and April is ALL ABOUT new changes! In fact, I bet every company/website/twitter page/kirin beer dispensary out there is currently flooding you with their newest great idea.
Here on EQD, it's no secret that I'm burnt out on whatever Hasbro is releasing lately. Luckily there is something else entirely to post about when it comes to ponies! And since EQD is at that "chillin at the beach" phase of its website lifespan, why not just cover what I want to cover?
So today we pivot! OpenPony is the future. I've seen it over these last two years. Delved deep into the horrors of a game from 2003 to dig out this golden cartoon horse model. Learned everything about it and converted hundreds in my quest to make everyone make a popen.
Today we go full steam ahead forever! EQD is now about OpenPony. We will cover popen and popen topics. I'll post a full video guide on how to make a popen. We will show off the different features that make popen the best model. I'll even use my shitty voice to serenade you with step by step instructions.
Be a mare! Or a stallion. For whatever reason a lot of people make stallions. I haven't figured that one out yet. Like everyone was a mare at first and now suddenly everyone's making stallions. I don't know what's going on anymore.
Anyway, expect popen content until I get bored.

It's no secret that the AI-fueled future is shaping up to be a nightmare for security or something. Since being acquired by Canterlex earlier in the month, our new managerial overlords are demanding we start making some actual money here on Equestria Daily while putting a stop to potential super-bots in the future!

Prove you are a good little capitalist by spending money to make sure everyone knows you are more important than the average brony! With EQD Blue, our internal algorithm that rejects bad content will instead shift entirely to a system based on how much money you have. At the end of the day, rich people are clearly smarter and produce better things than the poors. They wouldn't be rich if they weren't!
For a measly payment of $239 a month, you will have absolute top priority for everyone's eyeballs here on the site while proving that definitely you aren't a bot, because bots don't have any money.

"It's not WIERD, mom. It's ECCENTRIC. Tons of perfectly normal guys have lifesize pink and purple bat pony plushies on their couches. Get with the times!" Is what I'd say if they ever actually said what they were thinking, but they don't, so I continue to fall down this bat filled hole. How deep does it go? I don't know. I've been here for 11 years now and it just keeps going. I saw a thread on another site about pony tulpas which seem to be literal self-induced schizophrenia, so I guess there is always another layer.
Or maybe there are just multiple paths to take and millions of different layers between them? I guess if the year was 2100 we'd be talking about a bat pony android on the couch. I wonder how many of you would buy one? How many moms would be silently horrified while trying their absolute hardest to be supportive?

Artist: xwhitedreamsx I woke up today to people demanding the removal of bats. The closure of kirins. The re-application of unicorns, pegasus, and earth ponies. Unfortunately I cannot give in to these demands. Bats and Kirin are the peak of pony. Bat ponies have cute wings, fangs, and ear tufts. Their eyes can do that cute cat thing where the pupil gets all big and it's like omg this cat is cute, while simultaneously doing that thing where they turn into slits and it's like omg this cat is terrifying. How can you beat that? You can't. It's impossible. They just have superior eyes.
Kirin on the other hand take pony tails and ramp them up to the next level. Instead of just a pile of hair on a dock, they take the dock, (which according to the brony fandom is the best part) and expand it to become the focus, shifting the hair to instead be a neat little accent styled into flag-like sections of cuteness. Why deny their superiority?
This is your chance to confess to your kirin-hating and bat-loathing sins. Tells us why your opinions are terrible and why you haven't yet changed your OC into a batpony, waifue'd a kirin (if you are in that deep), swapped your profile picture over to a bat, drawn Sweet Velvet as a kirin, or built a shrine in your closet that isn't at all creepy and definitely does not have $1500 worth of lifes-size bedroom-eyed plushies mail-ordered from across the ocean because you do NOT have a problem and you definitely do NOT need therapy....
Even terrible people can turn over a new leaf. Not that you are terrible. You are simply misguided. That's even easier to come back from. Let us fix you today so that you too can understand the wonders of kirinlife and the joys of batlife.

It is now April according to the internet, which means it's time to unleash a new EQD on the masses. It's no secret that 10 years ago when this website was first born, it was originally created with the goal of simply getting more Trixie episodes. With that long since accomplished, we turned our attention to a new future for My Little Pony! One that would fundamentally improve every single aspect of it from the ground up. A concept so powerful that Hasbro would be foolish to ignore! I tell you here and now, our demands were simple but glorious! MORE BATS AND KIRIN!
Unfortunately, we, and Hasbro in conjunction failed horribly. Everything about Equestria Daily over the past 5 years has been a complete waste of time as Hasbro chose to completely ignore our scaled backs and EEEEE calls. Instead of embracing the ultimate merchandise selling concept of edgy cartoon horses for teens and pandering to the kirin market like all of the other big entertainment corporations right now, they instead doubled down on boring regular ponies.
Instead of licking our wounds and retreating, we are doubling down. From now on the focus will be on Kirin and Bats. If she doesn't have bat wings or a long kirin tail and scales, she's not getting the spotlight. Sorry everyone. This is for the best. G5 is here, and so far we have yet to see EITHER. It's an outrage bigger than any outrage before.
April 1st marks our migration. Until we get bored at least. We will probably get bored. It usually happens. I can't fight a cause to save my life. I've got too many video games to play and pizza restaurants to try. I'm going to have a heart attack from all this pizza and have 0 plan in place for someone to take over once I'm gone. And have you seen all that Velvetposting I've been doing over the last few days from my Second Life expedition? Their new pony models are adorable and it is so distracting. I could play dress-up over there for hours. Invade random furry night clubs with an edgy red-eyed bat pony avatar and all they can do is bask in her adorableness. Or send me weird messages. Sometimes they send weird messages and I'm not sure how to handle that.

While our focus is on Izzy now, we are still going to cover G5. With our ever-impressive team of fact checkers, investigators, hackers, and really smart people, we have managed to dug up the first 13 episodes of the 5th generation series releasing some time after the Netflix movie! Rejoice!

I think it's about time we stop beating around the bush here on EQD. Generation 4 is over, and we need to re-imagine ourselves for the future of pony. We are starting to look like an internet archeology site more than a cutting edge pony news and spotlight site.
To go along with that, we've heard your demands! Sunny and Hitch are neat, but due to budget cuts on the EQD Patreon we are going to go ahead and just focus on what everyone actually wants out of the new generation. Why waste resources on multiple characters when we can just pour our hearts and souls into covering the most popular one? Honestly I look back at the last 10 years and wonder why we ever bothered with any other pony than Luna. Let's not make that mistake again! We have a new moon pony, and she's already making bigger waves than anything that has happened here in years~

April Fools is just about over here in blog-time, and I really wish I had time to hit a few more categories for Brony Appreciation Day. I'm going to nail some that I missed that really did deserve a compilation, but I underestimated how much time these posts would take to make. I really love the history we have here as a community, and didn't want to half-ass them. Maybe I'll do an extension some time!
I apologize to anyone out there that wanted our usual silly April Fools shenanigans, but with COVID-19 being a nightmare and the show over, I really felt like this would be a good excuse to just dedicate a day to us. We've been through a lot. A decade is a 3rd of my life, and even more for many of you. Sometimes it's nice to just reflect and appreciate what we've all built.

I remember way back before the pony years when Anime Music Videos were all the rage. Video editing was still a relatively new thing for hobbyists to do a decade ago. People forget that Youtube was only 5 years old when Friendship is Magic released!
With how appealing the designs of the characters in this show are, it was inevitable that we'd want to convert scenes into music videos. Little did we know that a veritable tsunami of these would inundate us. There was such a flood, that the genre of "Pony Music Video" was born, becoming an entity of it's own!

Nothing expands the show better than the fanfiction side of the fandom! Writing is something we are all taught throughout our school years, making this one of the most accessible sections of pony for people to venture into. It takes a lot of practice and dedication to write well though. Especially when it comes to shifting away from the essay format drilled into us in high school into the world of creativity.
Fortunately, we have a TON of people willing to put their skills into creating some of the most iconic stories fanfiction has ever seen!

Every year, we tend to go crazy in April Fools with an all day event dedicated to some random topic, be it SPACE MARES last year or Starlight Glimmer's hostile takeover of the blog and eventual overly-dark ending where she turned everypony into statues. It may or may not have gone a little far~
Anyway, this time around with the current world already being chaotic enough, we wanted to do something a little bit more down to earth. I know laughter and fun is usually the best medicine, but I also think with 10 years of this awesome fandom under our belts, we need a good excuse to celebrate everything we've accomplished so far.

Since quite a few people are sending this one, I figured I'd pop it up. While not a direct reference, the new April Fools joke that lasts until the 15th on Rainbow Six is obviously pretty pony-inspired, at least from the name. They have cartoon ponies in the background too, albiet not MLP style.

Due to an intern spilling coffee on the only hard drive with SPACE MARES, the entire thing has been lost. What could have been, is now nothing. Chrysalis will never conquer the universe, and Twilight with her plucky team of beam sword wielders, Star Commanders, daring smugglers, and hyper-zealous blue alien ponies with super impressive golden technology will not be fighting back. What will G5 be replaced with? Find out hopefully some time this year.
On a serious note though, hopefully you all enjoyed this one. We've always taken April Fools a little far, but we need a day to let off some steam every once in a while. If you missed any of the editorials, synopsis lists, and other silly posts, you can find them at the SPACE MARES tag. We grabbed almost everyone for this one, with WeAreBorg, Platonic, The Skullivan, Pascoite, Blueshift, and I all throwing our writing and arting skillz into the ring.
Will we ever get our glorious sci-fi pony crossover? It's up to all of you! I doubt Hasbro would create it despite the petition now floating around, but we've been known to put our creative juices together for big projects a lot over the years.
The OPEN ART event will still be going on. That was not part of April Fools. Get out there and draw some spacy ponies. ALL are welcome!
