It sounds like it was recorded with a really cheap microphone, and I don't think that's even Asheigh Bell's voice in the redone Dash lines.

So....maybe iTunes got panicky when they heard the complaints of the very vocal minority, and edited the episode accordingly. Hasbro's dealt with our insanity before, and knows that it's much better to just ignore us.

Anyway, that's my theory.Matthew Percivalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01965604227517343211noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1865775941337421610.post-50179784644761988492012-02-26T22:50:03.071-07:002012-02-26T22:50:03.071-07:00Hrm, and lest that be misconstrued,
Again, "...Hrm, and lest that be misconstrued,

Again, "so what" in the sense that the original shoutout cannot be taken away by Hasbro, ever. There are valid reasons to be upset about the (rather futile) change though, and those are the things that should be focused on, and (rationally and calmly) complained about. If only to ensure absolutely that our Derpy (because she is in a strong way *ours*) is not altered in future appearances.

I want to see that cross-eyed little pegasus popping up in the background in all the future episodes just the way she (almost) always has. Was getting worried there for a moment, but then even some of the people who sounded like they were being unreasonable came back and showed they were being very reasonable (indeed, almost *hyper*-reasonable).

And it's good to see a kind of funny, fandom-wide Standalone Complex thing going where everyone who takes a second to pause and think about the situation comes to the same conclusion about what to do about it, if they're upset. Sensible complaint, laying out the reasons therefore and, ideally, what they would prefer to see done.

If you can, I reccomend people read through this thread, and skim over the hate. There are some good ideas here (being coherent and unified about what we'd LIKE done and why, for example), and presenting a unified front can only help.

As would sending solid letters, though I imagine many of us won't. Still, if a petition about this can get 25,000+ signatures online, what if even a fraction of that was solid letters? Pity the poor mail room, but that's awfully hard to ignore.

Finally,

@FrostTheFirst

I said this a WAYS back in the thread, but the thing is, this change only exists, so far, on the iTunes version of the episode. And even if it reaches elsewhere...so what?

It IS the digital age. The original version of the scene? It's out here in the internet already, and it's there forever. Hasbro can't get rid of it, and we as a community can make darn sure that everyone knows it was there first.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1865775941337421610.post-75141122276768286092012-02-26T20:23:41.084-07:002012-02-26T20:23:41.084-07:00Here's my 2 cents... We should continue to complain in a civil, reasonable manner, There's no hate here, but given that we were lied to, and this change doesn't carry a good reason behind it, I think it's fair we want it back to the way it was. Many things in that show offend people, as does everything that means anything. We'll continue to love and tolerate, but if, and to what extent, we support this show depends on how well things go from here. It's not unreasonable for us to voice our distaste at the change, that's not hateful, it's just expressing an opinion. I originally intended to buy season 2 on dvd, for example, but should the Derpy change remain, I feel I'm getting an inferior product. As a result, I will spend my money elsewhere. I'd love to support you both monetarily and with my online presence Hasbro, but to earn my support, you have to do things I feel comfortable supporting. Either way I shall continue to view for the time being, but at least making both versions available would be a big step to trying to do right by everyone. When i saw her appearance i was overjoyed because I took it as the people behind the show as saying "hey, you guys love the show, and we love that you love the show and we listen to what you guys all have to say, so as a token of thanks for your support here is the fan favorite with speaking lines". I can say that i honestly cannot blame Hasbro. as a business standpoint they are doing what they can to move on from the incident. I have seen on numerous occasions how bad P.R. can be devastating to a company. but thankfully this lovely grey and blonde pegasus will still be around for future enjoyment even if she is a little different then we would all care to remember.starswirlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12520029716481451153noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1865775941337421610.post-5714092530464917252012-02-26T12:33:12.192-07:002012-02-26T12:33:12.192-07:00@jodyjm13

We definitely should make ourselves heard; it's not the decision we should love and tolerate, but the people behind it. I don't agree with the change, but I assume Hasbro and/or Apple had a reason to go through the trouble and expense of making it. I don't agree with those who found Derpy offensive, but I concede that at least some of them are sincere about it (and not just trolls or overly-PC people being offended on behalf of someone who isn't offended themselves), and I try to understand why they feel the way they do. I'm seeing far too many bronies, though, who're assuming that because they didn't find Derpy's scene offensive, anyone who claims they did is either stupid or lying, and Hasbro is cowardly or brony-hating for going along with their demands. And while those beliefs are not always expressed in a hateful way, there's definitely a lack of respect inherent in them even when expressed politely."

Bit too much there for me to dissect without repeating myself endlessly, but I agree with you completely.

I'm fairly sure that I mentioned this somewhere in a previous post, but since this is ~100 posts further up by now I will re-iterate my point:

Yes, I do see that Kreoss wants us to express our points with respect and in a polite manner. I don't agree we should "Tolerate" changes like this when we feel they were unjustified and wrong, but I do appreciate the fact that somebody who works on the show cared enough about our community to actually communicate with us and let us know what is going on. More frequent messages/communication would be very much appreciated and would stop us from acting like panicing ponies that have a stampede coming toward ponyville.

I think it's sad that the big company Hasbro can't let Studio B give us one little shout out like this without forcing them to take it back.

It wasn't Apple that edited it, Rainbow Dash's tone of voice was also changed, from irritated to concerned. This required Ashleigh to re-voice the scene. They altered RD's personality too, not just Derpy's. That could be seen by some of us as even more serious.

Rainbow Dash, as much as we love her, is not known for her great patience, compassion, or tolerance.Rubystarshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17044474464893531859noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1865775941337421610.post-24205167345490870522012-02-26T07:07:46.570-07:002012-02-26T07:07:46.570-07:00People, we must find direction; an idea we can all...People, we must find direction; an idea we can all agree with and get behind. Otherwise, no change can result of all this expended effort.

If we complain to Hasbro but don't make it clear what they can fix, they wouldn't be able to do anything. I suggest we ask them to give Derpy's character more depth. It is only one-dimensional characters -- caricatures -- that can be offensive by symbolizing a stereotype.

And instead of teaching kids that characters like Derpy should be censored, changed and corrected, this course of action would teach them to not believe in negative, hateful stereotypes. Plus it would require that Derpy gets even MORE screen time. Wouldn't that be awesome?

But first and foremost, we need to actually ASK Hasbro what happened: it won't do to just sit around and be all like "I just don't know what went wrong!"Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00281262892398422317noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1865775941337421610.post-76408897924862386462012-02-26T06:48:11.577-07:002012-02-26T06:48:11.577-07:00@jodyjm13
