Don't forget, today's episode starts a new schedule that has the episodes airing three (3) hours later than normal (that's 11AM blogtime)! Also, have some context-appropriate Fluttershy being assertive.

    6. I know this seems dumb, but the end of every episode leaves me feeling like there are plot (not referring to pony ass) holes that won't ever be filled. I guess I just take things WAY to seriously. In fact, the next episode is just gonna be torture for me.

    10. I really hope we see more three-character episodes, because we've already done a lot of 1-character, 2-character, and full-cast episodes. The problem with full-cast episodes is that nopony gets enough airtime to really shine.

I think 3-character episodes will provide a lot more entertainment value, because we can have the episode focus on one or two characters, while a second or third character provides a foil/background analysis. I really liked Fluttershy/Pinkie Pinkie/Rarity, but I'm still looking forward to the dream team of Twilight/Pinkie/Rarity.

    11. Flutterbitch? Hulk Hogan/Satan/Mr.T/Rocky character? Really bitchy Flutterbitch? That episode.. I don't know was it 100% apropriate for little children, but it was awesome :)

Angel should take some anger management lessons.

    13. Heh heh. Excellent episode as always.

FiM teaches girls to be assertive so they don't get pimp slapped by people named Angel.

Iron Will sounds strangely like The Boulder from Avatar: The Last Airbender.

    14. Is it just me, or every pony in the city is a weakling...? Even when Fluttershy was a lot more accertive, nobody stood up for himself...

In some moments, that was what cut me out of the actual episode. NOBODY RESPONDED TO HER COMMENTARIES...not even Pinkie or Rarity, which are their friends...

Anyway, good episode after all. But, to be truthful, I like more the Flutter-"Shy" than the Flutter-"Shove"...

      :D

    15. Okay, the episode was quite good. The only problem I really have with it is that the transitions felt oddly-paced, specifically the transition to locking herself in her house and having Angel tie her up. (That was hilarious, by the way.) The pacing is good overall, but that transition was a bit too fast for me.

On a separate subject, I think that the reason everyone insults Rarity and not Pinkie Pie is that Rarity doesn't have the humor factor going for her as much - that and the bad reputation she's been given before. If it wasn't for those, the amount of people who cared would be nigh-negligible.

      ReplyDelete
    16. That was a satisfying episode.
Still have a feeling of murderous hatred for the rabbit though but it all worked out in the end. :)

    17. You can't argue with perfection, and this episode was Perfection! I just got to see it. Assertive Fluttershy, Looney Toons Reference (Twice!), So Awesome! Iron Will's constant 3rd person references were terrific! @MiColt I noticed Pinkie being confused by the 4th wall reference. Totally excellent episode! I wish the episodes were longer, I want to see more "New" Fluttershy!

    18. @Deviouspie
This is an unlikely combination I think. The reason they only had 3 of the mane 6 was, that it only needed 2 voice actors, which is cheaper / easier. The combination of Rarity / Fluttershy / Pinkie Pie seemed a bit odd to me anyway, for example why was Rarity and no pony else in Sugarcube Corner? But if you already have Fluttershy, you basically get Pinkie Pie for free.

So, an episode with only Twilight, Pinkie and Rarity still needs three voice actors and the combination seems a bit odd. I could imagine an episode focusing on Twilight and Rarity, with some support by Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie though.

      ReplyDelete
    19. I hated Angel this episode, more so than usual. How the hell can someone live with Fluttershy of all ponies and act like that towards her?! :/ But this was a cute episode, predictable, but cute.

      ReplyDelete
    20. Two main thoughts on this episode:

      1) Iron Will = Macho Man Randy Savage + Mr. T. Awesome.

      2) Angel Bunny is now my least favorite character in the entire show, and he doesn't even talk. I never liked him to begin with, but now he ranks as more obnoxious than even Diamond Tiara, IMO. That's saying something.

      ReplyDelete
    21. @Acriaos
I'm glad Rarity got some screen time. It's been a while. I think Hearth's Warming Eve was the last time she was given much to say. Maybe a few word in Cider Squeezy and one or two lines in Last Roundup. So weather it's an odd combination or not, it's good to see Rarity again.

    22. Wow.. this episode was so BADASS!

-OMG, poor Fluttershy! She needs that food and all those ponies are being arses!
-Lol, pinkie doing a bugs bunny, awesome!
-The minotaur... is Mr. T. F' yeah!
-Oh DUDE! Fluttershy is awesome as assertive! GO GIRL!
-Oh... okay, that's taking it a little too far.
-Oh! Fluttershy! That was so bitchy! Poor Rarity and Pinkie... :(
-Oh crap... Minotaur is coming over.... shit just got real.
-"No means no." O.O Oh... damn! GO GIRL!
      -Awww... happiness all around!
      -THE STARE! FTW!

My ending comment: I really hope we see a bit of the new fluttershy from the end of this episode for the rest of the show. I like her! Still the same but assertive! :3

    25. So it seems like Rarity and Pinkie Pie's time together in the desert actually ended up making them better friends. Feels like that could almost be an episode in itself.

By the way, if you're bothered by Angel slapping Fluttershy, just remember how Opalescence treats Rarity. Same thing, except Opal has claws.

And then about Rarity's flirting, do notice that she did pay the guy for the asparagus, so it's not like she conned it from him for free. Using flattery to convince him to sell it back isn't exactly manipulation at its worst.

I do slightly wish Pinkie hadn't done that Bugs Bunny switcheroo bit, but that's mostly because I never really liked that joke anyway, plus I'm personally not a huge fan of those sorts of references in general. No big deal, though.

Most importantly, did anyone notice how adorably freaking cute Rarity looked standing on her hind legs near the end of the episode? I might need to make a vector of that pose.

    27. Alternative title: Southpark Satan comes to Canterlot.

Iron Will was so much better character than I expected. Kudos to the creators for giving him a graceful exit and making him a minotaur when a bull would have been fine.

I hope Iron will crosses paths with disgraced Trixie, but something tells me he will sooner end up in a barn with a member of the Apple family, who is not AJ.

    29. Iron Will is just so awesome.

Sounds a bit like Sergeant Hatred from Venture Brothers.

At the seminar he makes his grand entrance from bellow the stage, full of fan fare, fireworks fog effects, and an Eye of the Tiger knock off, which Hulk Hogan used to use as an entrance theme.

Next he does some Scott Stiener double bicep kisses.

Then Hulk Hogan's arm swing into ear cup.
Followed by Scott Hall's/Kevin Nash's double arm point.

Lastly he finishes Mr T.s classic catch phrase.

He uses Fluttershy picket fence as ring ropes.

He refers to constantly himself in third.

I'm pretty sure that one of writers is a wrestling fan to get squeeze in that many references.

Iron will and Discord are favorite nonpony character.

I can certainly understand being invested in the show - I was too, for a long time. In the end, however, I realized that it was keeping me from enjoying the show as much as I should when I always ended up focusing on the bad things in the episodes instead of the good things.

Not saying that there's anything wrong with being that invested on the show. As I said, been there, done that.

This, this, so much this. I would've been a little bit iffy about it myself if she didn't pay him, but then again, these small details are what made me fall in love with the show to begin with.

    33. I was very amazed by Fluttershy's ability to handle herself. But then she made Rarity and Pinkie Pie upset, and then I didn't think it was ok anymore :(.

Really amazing episode, I was very amuzed all the way through.

Also the part were you see flutershy locked inside her own house, some very amazing animation appeared, it made the scene so much alive. Really good job, go watch that part again if you dont know what im talking about :).

My two cents on Angle bunny:

      1. It makes perfect sense that he lives with Fluttershy - who else in Equestria would put up with his sh*t?

      2. Isn't he just a little child throwing a tantrum? It's not as if he and Fluttershy are equals.

      3. Is Angel, like, Fluttershy's property? I think in "The Wizard of Oz" there was this legal divide, where animals who could talk were citizens while animals who couldn't talk were, well, animals. Ok now I'm definetly overanalyzing this.

Yeah, if it was keeping you from enjoying the show then more power to you.

    45. After giving this episode a second watch, I've come to the conclusion that it's a stellar episode if you're looking for pure comedic value (I admit that I place myself firmly in this character), but merely par for the course if you're looking for character progression and charm.

From a visual, the episode had tons of quirky out-of-focus gags, and RariPinkie provided quite a lot of visual humor. Furthermore, some of the scenes were quite impressive from a artistic standpoint. From an audial standpoint, I loved how Iron Will's theme stole from "Eye of the Tiger". It's always funny to Youtube things that Ponies reference just to look at the comments.

Iron Will really stole the spotlight for me. He was motherfucking awesome. I will probably argue that he took Discord's position as the most endearing antagonist. I loved his antics and how he treated his goats.

The one thing I found kinda weird was the focus on money in this episode. It's like Studio B is trying to give us hints as to how the Ponyville economy works. I found it kinda weird that someone would pay 2 bits for a SINGLE cherry, but a bunch of asparagus cost one bit. Was there a cherry shortage?

Pinkie, Rarity, and Fluttershy worked really well in this episode. Pinkie and Rarity are always entertaining for me, especially when they both actively try to manipulate other ponies. I had no idea that they were such good friends. Fluttershy's over-assertiveness was entertaining, well-paced and it didn't get repetitive. I actually liked it when Fluttershy criticized how useless Pinkie and Rarity's jobs are, because I'm not quite sure how I am supposed to feel about it. On one hoof, I feel that the writers were making a self-conscious joke about how some ponies are more productive than others; while on the other hoof, I feel that the intention was that ponies are supposed to respect other ponies choices and passions.

I don't think the ending was rushed -- in fact, I found the final scene both hilariously entertaining and endearing. The only problem I had was that there could have about 30 more seconds devoted to Fluttershy's realization of the problems with her over-assertiveness. It's not a big complaint, and it doesn't detract from my love of the episode.

Overall, I give this episode a 5/5, and it's definitely one of the best episodes in the series. I'm not quite ready to put it in my top 5, but it's definitely in my top 10.

      ReplyDelete
    46. I can forgive the ponies for acting like jerks. Everyone/everypony can be a jerk sometimes, but Angel is Fluttershy's dearest pet and she does EVERYTHING for him. I can't overlook this. >_<

    53. I know it was shocking, but Fluttershy being a bitch to her friends wasn't exactly unrealistic. She assumed 'herself' = 'doormat' in her head, so obviously thought her friends were telling her to NOT be herself when told to be assertive, and then going back on that when being told to be less assertive.

Paranoid, yes, but that's the conclusion you jump to if you take advice like Iron Will's right down to the letter.
To that end, I think there's a hidden moral here: take the advice you get from others- especially those out to gain from you- with a pinch of salt. Do not rely purely on them to change you- change must come from within yourself.

    58. That's how Rarity and Pinkie got back at Dash! They helped teach Fluttershy how to be assertive, something Dash's been working on for years now, without even having Dash in the episode!

    59. The one thing I took away from this episode is that Fluttershy can now use The Stare AT WILL. Heavens help us all.

... Or we'd need them to if she wasn't still, ya know, Fluttershy. So now I guess the real danger is in Fluttershy forcing everyone to eat healthy and take their medicine.

    60. @jacksthemouse

One of the things that struck me about this episode was that it brought home a point I've been wondering about since S2 began. When Discord warped the mane six, he didn't magically add anything new to them, he simply brought out the potential aspects of their personality that were always under the surface. We've seen Rarity be self-centered and Applejack (try to) lie, and now we've seen Fluttershy acting like a brute of her own accord. I think the message is that whilst it's easy to be influenced by others, ultimately we choose the person we are going to be.

    69. That Angel is such an asshole to Fluttershy. I could bitch slap him into rabbit stew.

Dumb Angel got sick from that cucumber slice because he pooped on it himself and gave himself ecoli. Silly rabbit.

How dare those shop keepers gouge customers for money. This is Equestria not Ferenginar! And everypony cutting in front of poor Fluttershy. They deserve a Sheriff Bullock beat down like in Deadwood.

I was expecting Iron Will to be more Anthony Robbins and less Macho Man/Mr. T. But maybe Macho Man is a nod to Dexter's Lab?

Rewatched season 2 episode 1 & 2 and Twilight calls Fluttershy a Brute or the Brute. So I'm going with FlutterBrute instead of FlutterBitch.
      Although FlutterBitch is catchy.

I would have liked to see Twilight, Applejack and Rainbow but that would've made the plot overly complicated. I do think Rainbow is much more rude than Rarity even though Rainbow is being honest. Isn't honesty Applejack's job?

Nice Fluttershy story. Shy, doormat Fluttershy is so cute and loveable. I think she's my favorite.

Uh-oh, if girls discover acting shy and vulnerable will make us bronies fall in love with them, we're in trouble. Brony alert!

    81. After thinking about it for awhile, one thing bothered me about Fluttershy in this episode.

People usually tend to reveal their true feelings when they're angry. And Shy pushed herself to be angry with everypony in order to not seem weak.

So when she confronted Pinkie and Rarity, and said that both of them had frivolous interests, I think honestly that that was Shy's REAL opinion of them. One she had kept hidden for a LONG time. Think about it -- Discord had nothing to do with her saying what she did. Sure, she was influenced by Iron Will, but WHY would she say specifically those comments about them if they didn't, on some level, mean it?

I can fully imagine it won't be an issue in future episodes, but that scene left a bad taste in my mouth overall, because it wasn't just Shy saying "get out of my way" or "I'm not going to be pushed around," it was her getting VERY specific about two of her friends.

If I was Pinkie or Rarity I would really think about what Shy said and try to get her to explain herself. Thoughts?

      ReplyDelete
    82. @Nightweaver20xx
My thought is that it was the way Fluttershy actually felt about them, but hadn't realized before. The realization that she could think such mean things about her friends is what shocked her out of her aggressiveness and she was legitimately sorry at the end of the episode. Pinkie and Rarity realized she was sorry and that was why they were so quick to forgive and forget.

    87. Up until this episode, Angel's been a bit abrasive-- but he's also been Fluttershy's stand-in backbone. In "Ticket Master" he pushed her into trying to get the second ticket. In "Dragon Shy" he alerted her to the cloud of smoke rolling over Ponyville. In "Bird in the Hoof" he got her out the door and on the way to the tea party with the Princess. It's pretty clear that he's protecting her and taking care of her and trying to get her to stand up for herself... this latest episode is the first time he's really been a spoiled jerk.

      ReplyDelete
    88. So far in season 2 I not seen an episode that I did not like and this episode was awesome.

I really got into this episode, from past episodes we all know Fluttershy (almost) never stands up for herself and in this episode she really got pushed around. So I have to admit that I ended up yelling at my laptop "COME ON FLUTTERSHY! TELL EM' OFF!" especially when Angel slapped her in the face, that surprised me. Iron Will when I saw the Bull silhouette logo I thought of Dwayne Johnson "The Rock" and I know everyone caught the Mr. T catchphrase "I pity the fool."
When Fluttershy finally stood up for herself I rooting for her especially when she told off the pony that cut in front of her in line at sugar-cube corner that time I cheered. I could keep going but you guys have already seen the episode. Besides the Mr.T referance, I would like to say that when fluttershy asserted herself to Mr. Greenhooves and parts of this episode was a nod to the Jim Carrey Movie "Me, Myself, and Irene." One more thing, there was one time in this episode that reminded me of the fannon cartoon Yaplappershy. When Fluttershy is in her cabin and she is giving herself a peptalk in the mirror she turns and yells at a group of bunnies who faint, this happens in Yaplappershy but only to one bunny. I doubt that that scene was a reference to that cartoon, but then again you never know. For those of you who have not seen Yaplappershy here is the youtube video-BE WARNED TURN YOUR SPEAKERS DOWN AND DO NOT WATCH THIS VIDEO WHILE WEARING HEADPHONES!

    90. Fucking power outage busted my internet. Fuck, missed whole discussion, not to mention livestream.

Anyways, this episode delivered. Yes, you could predict course of events from episode announcement, but execution was top-notch.

They kinda overdid it on "mean" part, I mean, when you have fucking wings you can just fly over carts, honestly, but overall Flutterbitch was brilliant.

The highlight of this episode? Fluttershy dissing Pinkie and Rarity on their vanity. And it's FUCKING TRUE. Color me pleasantly surprised.

Also, it's first episode (excluding Last Roundup) to have proper main cast interaction throughout. Finally.

    93. This ep delivered. HARD.

Waited all season 2 for a fluttershy episode and now I see why they put it so late....because it was too good to have too soon in the season.

So many things that I'm not even gonna list them all....

This ep had too many references.........Iron Will plus the seminar goats was pure WIN. The freaking MICs they all had just made it hilarious and reminded me of similar seminars/pyramid-scheme-conferences IRL....I could not stop laughing.

Remergence of flutterbitch.......need I say more? I actually also LIKED how cruel she got toward her own friends before she had her breakdown (especially calling out Rarity LOL)....it made her realization of how she was acting have MEANING instead of being pure cliche.

This is why this show is as good as it is.....they execute the common and expected cliches MASTERFULLY.

      ReplyDelete
    94. Oh yeah....the "sad Hulk walk away music" during FLuttershy's realization and Angel being almost obnoxious enough to want me jump through my screen and strangle him were other high points ;p

      ReplyDelete
    95. @IkkouSoryu

      LoL

I wasn't one of the commentors but I can see why people dislike some parts of Rarity's....personality...

There is a reason her and RD are on the bottom of my pony list ;p

The ep is a BIT strange...in some of the regard that PP and Rarity were basically showing FS "negotiation" (lol...aka scheming) via mind games/flirting. Not sure how that's "assertiveness" unless you are the type of person who thinks the brown-noser at your RL job is being "assertive" instead of conniving/scheming. (aka bad character traits)

Alas...this is what happens when you overanalyze a kids show. But that's price Studio B pays for making it so good that it has such large adult based fandom ;p

    97. After giving the episode a 4th watch some new thoughts have entered my mind.

Near the end of the show. Fluttershy views her reflection in the water, and realizes what a nasty pony she is being.

She then walks into her house. Then all of the sudden it flash forwards to some point in the future.

Her house has become boarded up entirely from the OUTSIDE. While Fluttershy and all of her pets are inside. Her tree has lost all of it's leaves. This leads to some serious questions.

      -How much time passed?
-Did the seasons change and fall caused the tree to lose it's leaves?
-Who boarded her house up from the outside? Fluttershy is not a unicorn so she couldn't have done it herself via magic.

During another part there was a joke about a donkey and a mule stranded on a desert island... What was the punchline to that?

Also will there be an episode that addresses Angel's abusive nature?

He slapped Fluttershy in the face. He threw Fluttershy face first out of her own house and into a her mailbox. This behavior is unacceptable towards Fluttershy... someone needs to make some rabbit stew :D

    98. @Arcane Flame
There's a little sequence playing out in the background there. At the start of the scene Bon Bon is walking around with Lyra's saddlebags, while a very bored Lyra is sitting at a table waiting for her. They meet up and spend quite a time chatting at the table, and at the very end of the scene Bon Bon wanders off again, still with Lyra's saddlebags. They've put some great attention into the background detail.

As for the multiple Bon Bon voices: clearly her parents had quintuplets.

    99. Meh, it's a Fluttershy episode so it was never going to rock my world, but it was a fine episode and I had fun watching it. Iron Will was awesome though: Trixie, Mr. T and a whole bunch of generic macho clichés mixed up into a single character. I did not enjoy seeing Fluttershy bitch about Rarity and Pinkie, but that's just blatant favoritism and I really can't hold it against the episode. If I had a complaint, it'd be that Angel's domestic abuse was just a bit disturbing.

Also, Pinkie Pie and Rainbow Dash seem to be competing for the title of least tactful pony of Ponyville :P

      >PP and Rarity were basically showing FS "negotiation" (lol...aka scheming) via mind games/flirting. Not sure how that's "assertiveness"

I see it more like they were trying to make a point that FS should try and protect her interest, not just run away. So naturally, they used their strongest points to get their way - looks and flattery for Rarity and mind games for Pinkie. I don't see how that's a character flaw.

To be fair, FS disses Rarity hard on her vanity and I agree to extent - she's occasionally greedy and sometimes puts her interests before friends, but it's understandable traits for a fashion designer, honestly.

On a side note Angel should die in a fire

      ReplyDelete
    108. Eh I didn't find any problem with Rarity's actions in this episode, she at least paid the nerd pony for his asparagus and she did try to help Fluttershy, and while I admit she can be vain that's her flaw and it's the flaws of the mane 6 that makes them well developed, non 1-demensional characters

      ReplyDelete
    109. Man......when fluttershy looses it.......things go really wrong really fast dude...

Not likely as it was in the 80's and sucked several different ways past so bad. who knows, maybe they'll bring it into the show.

Although I'd rather see an episode with an un-bastardized Derpy hooves and they go on about how just cause she has her eye issue that she can be as good of a mail mare as anypony. ^.^

    113. even discord couldn't change fluttershy without magic and minotaur can. WTF?

      ReplyDelete
    114. @wajor

I think its more of a forced-change/mind-screw vs a change she "thought" she 'wanted'. Also maybe Iron Will is just a better motivational/de-motivational speaker then the D-man.....Discord tried to talk her into it first like with the others but failed.

Note he didn't actually useany 'mesmorizing' eyes on the other mane 6 until he already talked them half-way into his claws....and he didn't even need do to that at all to Twilight..she broke herself lol

      @ IkkouSoryu

I have to agree with some of your points & you make a decent argument. Protecting interest vs shying away from the situation n' all that WHILE using what ya got to your advantage.

I still think it as a bit underhanded but whatever. :P

I think everyone agrees Angel should get knocked out the box at this point LOL.

      ReplyDelete
    115. Very nice episode!

So glad Fluttershy stood up to Angle. :)

Wow, that rabbit can be a jerk! But part of the reason he was doing it was because it worked.

Angle and Fluttershy have complimentary personalities in some ways. And here we saw it go too far, but I hope we see Angle helping Fluttershy as well, like when Angle got Fluttershy to go after the Gala ticket in the first season (although I'm not sure what Angle's motive was). As much as I want to hate Angle, if Fluttershy still likes him, so do I. :)

      ReplyDelete
    116. @El_Darax

Nope, knocking Angel out of the box is not_enough at this point. And I'm dead serious.

I have to agree with one comment waay back - while every other pet has something going for it, Angel simply sucks. And I never saw him as a backbone for FS - he always pushed her for his own selfish reasons.

Yep, I think fiery death wouldn't be enough. How about molten lead?

      ReplyDelete
    117. @MyBoyJ
Derpy's the Ponyville Post Master of course!

      @Piper
This is why we need ACTION PONY PLAYSETS!!!

They might not ever make the Arctic Assault Missile Launching Earth Pony, but I don't see why they wouldn't have a Mountain Rescue Pegasus with Grappling Hook.

      @Fluttershy
Admittedly, Angel's relationship with Fluttershy could also be see as a young mother and her picky toddler.

      @Benschachar
Exactly, Fluttershy probably has never set hard boundaries on him, and thus his young bunny mind thinks he can get away with it.

      @Adrienne
Well I'd assume it's because Rarity used her filly wiles to take the Nerdy Stallion's Asparagus (even though she reimbursed him his bit), while Pinkie was haggling what is probably suppose to be seen as price gouger.

Really, Pinkie did do the more illegal thing when you think about it.

      @anthropony
I've wondered about the idea of Trixie going to one of Iron Will's seminars after her humiliation in Ponyville...

...Then I realised, "What if Trixie's 'Great and Powerful' persona is actual the result of attending Iron Will's program?"

    126. It's pretty clear that he's protecting her and taking care of her and trying to get her to stand up for herself.

    128. @Nightweaver20xx

Not everyone acts the same in anger.

Some people, when they get angry, react by trying to say the most hurtful, mean-spirited things they can think of, and they go all out on it. The goal is to HURT, not to tell the truth. Of course, if it isn't true a little bit, it cannot nearly hurt as much, but the point is that it doesn't really matter if what they say reflects their actual thoughts on that person; what matters is that they know it will hurt.

Is that a terrible way to express your anger? Oh sweet Celestia, definitely. But I don't think people who do it are being themselves. Fluttershy certainly wasn't.

True Angel 'helps' Fluttershy but that still doesn't excuse him bitch slapping her.

Angel seems more like a pimp than a pet or friend or bad child.

If a pet bite, time to strike.

If some pony slap, gonna react.
