Wow, ponies create giant tornadoes to lift mass quantities of water for rainy season. I knew that Equestria practiced high end weapon and season control, but this is still on a scale beyond what I had imagined.
I had though the hurricane thing might have just been an accident due to Fluttershy's inexperience with weather duties, but it would seem that the pegasi really meant to create one.

I managed to initially read that as tomato. I spent a few minutes wondering why you needed a tomato to lift water, but I was sure the episode would be awesome regardless. Then I managed to read it correctly, but I still like the idea of Fluttershy helping to make a giant tomato.
I liked the last episode, but I hope this will feature Fluttershy being more of herself throughout most of the episode, except when push comes to shove like in Dragonshy.

It would appear weather is a bit of crazy business in Equestria if they need to harness rain with tornadoes. But in any case, I've got a feeling Fluttershy is gonna shine once again. She got out of line last time, but in the end, she's our favorite nature-loving pegasus. Like I always say, we have an idea what's gonna happen. How it's gonna happen is always the fun part.
Fits beautifully into my head canon that the pegasi don't just create sunny days. They create whatever weather is necessary to keep the planet's messed up climate habitable. Similarly, unicorns and alicorns don't so much rise the sun and the moon as adjust their wonky orbits.
They don't just make the love, they make the worst of natures hate! Yes I can believe and love that, although I believe the worst of the worst of weather may happen on accident... Category 5 hurricane?? "I just don't know what went wrong"

And as we saw in Sonic Rainboom, Rainbow also has a crippling fear of public humiliation. This probably won't be examined in any way whatsoever due to Dash's ego and the fact that this is a Fluttershy episode, but I thought it was interesting.

Rainbow does have a crippling fear of public humiliation as well, but in the case of Sonic Rainboom it was because the Sonic Rainboom was part of her routine, but she'd never been able to do one since she was a filly. With this one, though, it's making a tornado, which she has complete confidence in doing.

Unless your pony has, in fact, created a disaster. That would sort of be mortifying. I mean, the humor would be like a caustic bile in comparison - an undue cruelty served by sarcastic fates, plated on hopelessness, with tears for garnish.

I was a bit disappointed with Putting Your Hoof Down, so I'm glad there isn't too long of a wait to see a Fluttershy episode again. Her strengths and flaws seem like a little trickier subject matter to deal with, but I'd tentatively expect this one to be more on character. I like seeing the Fluttershy/Rainbow Dash interaction because it tends to lend itself well to showing Fluttershy's character strengths which are lacking in Rainbow Dash.
Sounds pretty awesome. Tornadoes, Fluttershy (with Rainbow Dash), Cloudsdale, Pegasi, maybe even some of Flutter's family? Expectations = Expectations x 1.2
So Pegasi can create rainstorms, droughts, make lightning strike at will, whip up a damn tornado on demand and on top of that are so impervious to damage that they can use their bodies as high altitude mass drivers? Good thing they gave up their warrior ways a long time ago ... or did they?

We've known that the pegasus weather patrol was responsible for making storms as well as clearing skies since Look Before You Sleep, when they had to put together a doozy of a downpour to make up for missing a scheduled sprinkle.

They use tornadoes when they have a need to get a LARGE quantity of water into the sky over a SHORT amount of time, they are after all preparing for the rainy season. I'm sure that for normal rain storms they don't have to go to such extremes.
Also we've seen that baring flying symbols trying to slice her in half, Rainbow Dash is perfectly capable of safely controlling small scale tornadoes all by herself. I'd expect a team of skilled weather ponies could do just as well with larger tornadoes.

One of my favorite things about FiM is the way that it teaches the same lessons that lots of "shows for little girls" try to, but with a way cooler scenario.

Given that these eps were written and in the can a while ago, I seriously doubt that's the case...the derpy issue is most likely becoming a fabrication of facts that never were at this point, and we really need to let it go, otherwise paranoia and bad feelings will continue to tear the fandom apart at the seams.

My #2 favorite pony and my #1 favorite natural disaster in the same episode? I can tell I'm going to enjoy this.
They are going to make a tornado? Harsher in Hindsight indeed.
My prediction: the tornado will do what real-life tornadoes sometimes do and suck up aquatic animals along with them. This will lead to accidental frog rain (also rarely occurs in nature) and Fluttershy's un-pegasus-like animal handling skills will be a vital part of the solution.

So, Pegasi aren't just in charge of weather - it seems they have complete dominance on the entire water cycle system. Sounds like they've really got their work cut out for them, which shows how much of a proud race the Pegasus can be. No wonder most of them seem full of themselves - they have such difficult jobs!
