So as Derpy Day winds down, I thought it would be fun to send it off by setting a little art event into motion. Nothing very complicated; our little mascot is not one for intricate plots or delicate machinations. What she is, instead, is a happy little pony who has had precious little reason to smile lately. So give her some! Over the next 48 hours, lets all get together and draw some happy, happy Derpys. Which I hope some enterprising young game designer is listening to, because that also sounds like the single best version of Hungry, Hungry Hippos ever conceived. Anyway!
Here's how this works. You have until 7 pm Pacific time (GMT -8) on Saturday, March 3, to draw a smiling, happy Derpy. Why is she happy? That's up to you! But once you've got her smiling, upload the picture and send the direct image link to our super awesome image submitter: here.
This is not a contest or a skill event, so don't let fears about your lack of practice scare you off. Derpy loves you just for trying. So come on everypony, smile, smile, smile! I'll see you at the gallery!

How do I submit?
Similar to the Equestrian Mock War Training Grounds, we will be using the Submission Page template for all entries.
Follow these simple steps:
1.) Upload your image somewhere, be it Deviant Art, Imageshack, Livejournal, Facebook, or whatever.
2.) Grab the URL of the image. (It MUST end in a file extention - examples: .png, .jpg, it will not work otherwise) (TUTORIAL BELOW for Chrome/Firefox)
3.) Visit the submission page. Fill out all relevant information.

I am making a topic dedicated to saving Derpy (on my board). We will not relent until the original material is back in place on iTunes and Derpy's canon status is returned - or Hasbro sells the rights to her character to us - the fans who breathed her soul into her.
They've yet to address the fact they deliberately altered her appearance and un-crossed her eyes. The fact they did that means that since her voice - her name and her eyes were changed at the same time to be less offensive means that they felt having crossed eyes is offensive. That people with disabilities are offensive.
Intentional or not. They have ripped away an innocent soul from us and if you agree with me then let's re-group on g league and try to reason over time with our brother bronies. Realize that if you join me - you are no longer brony. You are derpy and proud of it.

This is a great thing for me. Because all I draw is the Derpster. OK OK, once I drew a sitting Lyra. I had planned to actually make a spray paint stencil of sitting Lyra this week, but now I have new plans!
For Derpy day, I went out and bought some muffins, and then I convinced my skeptic brother to watch some episodes with me. He now thinks it is a great show, and I am very happy to welcome him into the herd.
Done. Sent my art for a Drawfriend feature earlier, but I think it fits better on this mini event =)

Hmm I am in the middle of my 30 day drawing challenge but the 3rd is a pretty easy drawing for that day so I should be able to draw Derpy that day. On that note I have only had 2 hours of sleep today. Good night everypony.

Ownership of Derpy is an interesting topic. Hasbro obviously has rights to the visual design, but the rest? The name was given originally by someone without a trip on /co/, and AFAIK 4chan doesn't keep logs that far back. This means nobody can prove being the originator. As for the characterization, that's been a chaotic community mess, at least as far as IP goes. Without a clear owner, and with so much prior art available, this essentially puts Derpy in the public domain. As a result, Hasbro (and anyone else!) has full rights to represent her, but can't claim copyright. The only sticky part is the visual design; they could opt to put hers in the public domain and clear up the mess, though I don't really hold hope of that.

I think most people know how, but there's going to be some who aren't nearly as computer "literate". Take it more as a reminder to tell people they need to send just the URL directly to the image and not the image or the URL of the page it's on.
It's giving database errors when I submit. Is there an issue?
@Piper There is seemingly a limit to the description length allowed. That is all.
DevArt should send Seth a check for the increase in their web traffic as a result of this.
