soooo wait, Sethisto, the guy who owns and runs EQD was told not to post mashups.... by who? his mother? never realized he had a boss...
I'm sure he was told to not post mash-ups because sometimes, the songs used fall under some copyright stuff. An example would be in that Flimflamdro vid, Lady Gaga's Alejandro song is used and also may fall under the copyright issue

Well there are pre-listeners who listen to the songs, usually not Seth himself. I think they have some kind of voting system amongst themselves where if over half of the pre-listeners approve they post it. They probably vote mashups down and also told Seth they're not really worthy of being on a music post or something of that sort. I personally don't have an opinion on it.

I sincerely hope this is a typographical error or something. I've had three PMVs posted here, and they were all of mashups. I wouldn't have discovered ponies if it weren't for mashups. It's really my favorite genre of music, because it bridges the social gap.
Mashups expose people to genres they normally wouldn't engage, and encourages tolerance of musics we wouldn't normally appreciate. I, for one, would never willingly subject myself to a Lady Gaga record. But put her together with a band like BFMV, Depeche Mode, Santana, Korn, Metallica, or in this case, the Flim Flam Brothers, and suddenly she's one of my favorites.
I could go on, but you get the idea. Great musics all around, also. Looking forward to more.

Aren't mashups protected under the parody provisions of copyright law?? They take various copyrighted material, mix it up, and add their on value separate from the original works. Otherwise, just about every comedy series would have been sued out of existence a long time ago.

Sure do, since 2005. "Waiting For my Hash Pipe" by Divide & Kreate. That was the first one I heard. I was hooked. My current faves: Mashup-Germany, Norwegian Recycling, The White Panda, DJ Earworm, DJ Schmolli, and Party Ben.

Because if we're talking about copyright law, a mash-up is EXACTLY as legally sketchy as a PMV. Or any video that uses ANY clip from the show. Or any music that uses ANY sound bite from the show. Fair Use? HA! IIRC a few years ago a publishing company won a lawsuit over a 2 second guitar sample loop in a N.W.A song. Do the math.
Who gave Seth such horrible, legally naive advice? SMH
