Side note: What do you think a story needs to be a Crossover?
I don't trust things that bleed for a week and don't die. I also don't trust fics that update every 15 minutes knowing, how hard is to write decent material. This Upheaval is suspicious.

I'm currently writing something that is pretty much copying A Song of Ice and Fire's narration type. Should make my fic at least 20% cooler! ^^
Yet I don't know if an entire crossover would be successful. Haven't seen even a single good crossover fic so far, including Fallouts. A Song is huge - maybe a universe crossover would work but not a ponification.

I'm not seeing the difference, unless you're meaning that one is just the same story with ponies, and that the other is functional crossover.
And, unless you want a story that is chock-full of OCs, you will have to make a 'universe' crossover.
Just to clarify, that is the crossover that arranges characters and places to work, but stays true to the original plot, correct?

I just recently started reading Upheaval. To the people asking if it's worth it: YES. Yes it is. Some of the early-to-mid chapters are a bit too light on the Mane 6, but it's still good, and just gets better. The world building in Upheaval is fantastic, and the author definitely knows how to write in-character. The hidden-history backstory, and the recent allusions to the origins of the royal Alicorn family, are all just so gods-damned interesting.
