I actually wondered the same thing, then I noticed it was written by the same guy who wrote Sparkle's Law, and had to give it a shot.
I'd recommend it.
Ponies make war is pretty awesome IMHO. Nothing too grim and excellent action sets. Rarity as a bladecaster ftw

Ponies make War is one of my favourites. It avoids being grim for the sake of it, has excellent action sequences, great character development and depth.
It's rather long but well worth the time.

Probably a strange place to ask, but it's worth a try.
Anyone remember that one-shot fic posted a few months ago - it was about Twilight Sparkle being corrupted and becoming Nightmare Moon's General after she defeats Celestia. There's an underground resistance and everything led by Applejack, since Twilight attacked Ponyville and harmed/killed the Mane 5.
And then there's that warehouse fight scene with Applejack being all "MY ELEMENT OF HARMONY GIVES ME SUPER STRENGTH" and then we learn... things.
So yeah, anyone remember that one? Because I for the life of me can't find it anywhere! I wanna read it again! It was awesome! Ponies Make War reminded me about it again.
