Rainbow Factory was actually pretty tame in the horror dept. It was only "bad" in that it set the actions of it's chatacters as standard canon for it's universe, rather than using a catalyst for it's events. That made it disturbing to think of the characters in that light.
This story seems set in a universe using the Show universe as a template so I don't think we need to worry about that kind of trauma.
That doesn't mean this won't have nasty shit going on. I'll personally wait till this is complete to read.
I do enjoy a good horor story but I'm very particular as to what I consider "good" in the genre.

Yeah, I'm gonna add that I was massively disappointed in Rainbow Factory. Way over hyped. All those people calling it "worse than Cupcakes" are nuts. Whole lotta buildup to a weak payoff. And its hard to feel bad about random, just-introduced OCs being murdered, period. I understand that Scootaloo doesn't have any other canon Pegasi friends, but damn, if you're gonna base the whole thing around Pegasi getting slaughtered, you might as well shove Fluttershy into the meat grinder too and I AM SO SO SORRY I JUST TYPED THAT, PLEASE FORGIVE ME. ;_;

Ah lovely to know. I enjoy grimdark action-adventure, but prefer dark (non grim) horror.
So far the horror fic I hold in highest esteem in the fandom is The Silent Shore. I'm hoping this will deliver.

Conversely, I hate canon characters being OOC even in alternate universe settings.
I probably would have enjoyed RF significantly more if either all the characters had been OCs or if the story had not taken itself quite So SERIOUSLY.

I read The Silent Shore a while back. It's very well written, expecially with all that description. But i kind of prefer more action, instead of characters just wondering around and noticing spooky things.

I'm just a sucker for atmosphere. The part with Twi walking to the balloon with her eyes closed nearly killed me.

Also the Michael Bay Presents story had Fluttershy hold a box of rusty knives while standing inside a woodchipper and then be teleported by Twilight halfway across Ponyville.
I won't spoil it for you but she dies horrifically.
