I'm definitely excited for this episode. It sounds absolutely interesting. It sucks that my fanfiction covers an instance in which Rainbow Dash is faced with books, though.

I like how this synopsis can be applied to anyone who has a certain something he or she is a fan of, and is ashamed of, maybe because it's bad or maybe because it's not intended for them.
I doubt though this will be related to the Bronies, but it could be interesting to bring this episode up on a dicussion and see how much of it appears in this fandom.

A Rainbow Dash who is too proud to admit she was wrong earlier and goes to great lengths to make sure she doesn't have to admit fault? Sounds great. Hopefully I won't be disappointed, since I hated Mare Do Well and thought Find a Pet was a bit underwhelming.
Everyone knows that she ends up in the hospital because Rarity kicks her flank foe leaving her in the desert with Pinkie Pie.
What's the betting they pull a giant subversion on all of us, and Dash ends up in the hospital with a case of chicken pox or something, rather than an injury?

"Egghead" is more of a call back than a throwback
A call to the bronies who have to hide it from their "friends", I can relate.
Now I'm more curious than ever to see how this will play out. If the past is any indication, I doubt any of the others will think less of Rainbow because she took up reading. But I'm betting that whatever happens up to that point is going to be one wacky ride.
Two things will come of this episode, one, a bunch of "Reading Rainbow" fan art, and two, tons and tons of Twidash shipping fics and art.
As a huge bookworm, I'm slightly giddy over the potential classic parodies in this episode. My money's on Jane Mare by Charlotte Bridle.
@James Corck You definitely touched upon a good point here. It may not be the exact same thing, but it does kind of echo our fandom (or any other fandom out there) and how some of us try to keep it concealed.

It's a great opportunity to finally break her away from the 'Cool-phase Teenager' mold that plagued her as of late, and allow her to show some maturity for once. Im all up for some character development!
I'm actually torn between wanting the entire running time taken up by interaction between the cast and actually seeing some action scenes of whatever novels Dash gets into brought to life.
I don't see her reading technical manuals after all... This could be a chance to do some cool pony sci-fi or pirate tales or whatever.

some are, yes. though, i think most that do that absurd of ships, do it for lulz and shock value.
I only really read ships between the Mane 6, or ships between non-mane six chracters. I don't like background characters in mah mane six shipping.

Maybe Pegapox? This is actually somewhere close to the fanfic "Dashes dots and pegasus spots" where RD gets quarantined at Raritys boutique when she's found sick and contageous with Pegapox. In that fic she also takes on reading. And being bored. And afraid of a teddybear. XD
I think it's funny that people (Pretty much just Mr. Anonymous in this case) are still bawwing about the writing quality of this season. Now you could get into specifics and point out each episode's flaws, but overall, I loved this season just as much as, if not more than, the first one. And I've been watching since episode... what, four? Five? Very early in the first season in any event. I am a man who knows his Pony.
I still think it's hilarious that I sent in a fanfic, it got turned down, and one of the big reasons was because "Rainbow never puts herself in situations that can get herself hurt. She's full of herself, not stupid." Next day after I got that email, the synopsis for this episode pops up.

Irrational shipping side of me agrees wholeheartedly.
Rational side of me knows the more attention the ship receives, the more haters it's gonna get cause it conflicts with PieDash and, eck, AppleDash.
In contrast to one comment, (I'm too lazy to look back. Sue me.) I don't think the hospital is a regular thing for Dash. Wouldn't she have picked up reading sooner if she were routinely in the hospital for lengths of time? It's still possible that she comes down with something, but you can argue that with Fluttershy's motherly instincts kicking in and taking care of her, which would make hiding her new-found habit much harder to hide.

But yes, whether Twilight ends up even being in this episode or not, I can very much see this story content being fuel for TwiDash fans. It gives them one more platform they can spring the ponies' relationship off, after all, must seize the opportunity! Or at least I imagine that's how many of them must be looking at it (as I personally am rather neutral on the subject, it doesn't really bother me one way or the other).
Whatever the case may be though, I am very much looking forward to this episode. Sounds like some good character development for dear Rainbow, and that is always a nice thing.

Wow, really? I mean, not having read your story I don't know what other reasons they might have had for rejecting it, but on grounds of 'not being true to character' doesn't really seem to hold up to me. After all the prereaders obviously put through plenty of shipping fanfictions (and some of which are total crack-pairings no matter how you look at it), and those could very much be said to be out-of-character. That hardly seems fair to me.

Now that you mention it, I believe I have come across the idea before, and most notably (that I can think of right now, at least) in one of the few fanfictions I have actually read and gotten into, "Growing Pains". Which, incidentally, is also a TwiDash fiction I guess.

Wow. Like WhiteDiamonds said, that sounds like some really questionable judgment on the prereader's part. To quote RD herself, "Have you even met me?"
"Full of herself, not stupid" is a far, far cry from "never gets hurt because she's just too good for that". I've never heard of any serious athlete who hasn't broken multiple bones.
But I know I shouldn't get too passionate when I don't know all the details -- jumping blindly into righteous fury is, eheh, kind of a habit of mine. Maybe they had other, very good reasons for rejecting the story. I certainly hope so, for the sake of fairness.
By Celestia's mane, Rainbow Dash gets actual character development!?!? If a plot summary like this doesn't mean they've finally pulled it off there's no hope.

I can honestly say, I'm hoping for a Rainbow / Twilight moment to mirror the Fluttershy / Rarity moment in Suited for Success.
IE; Rainbow educates Twilight over the plot of a certain book she's reading that Twilight has misinterpreted.
The premise sounds solid. This has the makings of a very good episode, character-wise.

Ya I did see a reading see a reading episode in this for Dash long ago. Just because your an athlete, you don't like reading.

When it says RD lands in the hospital, well, since she does have a tendency to crash once in a while, perhaps she literally LANDS IN THE HOSPITAL.
Also, one wonders what kind of book she'd like. As one poster noted, adventure seems obvious. But who knows for certain... What if she got into philosophy instead? Wierd image of RD at a coffeehouse, beret and java at hand, debating the merits of Neightzchie vs. Haygel...
I think it would be funny as hay if RD injures herself by CRASHING INTO THE HOSPITAL.

Personally, I was imagining something along the lines of HG Wells or Jules Verne, rather than modern sci-fi.
But if they do animate a story she's reading, would it be something largely original or a ponification of a well-known classic? I'm really curios to see where they go with this episode.
But overall I still mostly want some character development for Dash and Twilight, who (aside from egghead jibes) really don't relate to each other that much.

Eh, I disagree, the characters do keep quite a bit of their development as the series progresses. Fluttershy was once scared of her shadow, now she's Dash's wingmare, which is a pretty demanding position, given all of the cart chases and catching of falling ponies the job seems to entail.

Anyway, actually this has the potential to be a really cool episode. Especially if the reason Dashie ends up in the hospital is revealed to be because of Derpy...
Also, actually I could see how one could get Dashie interested in reading, despite her personality, especially if you gave her things like comic books/graphic novels to start off with.
If Studio B puts in an actual reference in the episode to Reading Rainbow and/or Levarr Burton in any way shape or form, my day will be totally made. A staff with an obvious awareness of pop culture + a studio that did animation work for PBS before == totally plausible chance of that happening.
When I saw this picture, I thought Derpy was behind RD's accident.
I can't wait for the many potential d'aaaawwwwwwww moments that will come from this episode

Sounds amazing! We need more Twilight and Dashie bonding. And I do love the return of eggheaded! Rainbow's attitude has been pretty arrogant this season, more so than usual. She could really redeem herself in this one.
