That is totally a FLCL Scootaloo crossover. I don't even know how they get away with this stuff over there, but the levels of epic cannot be matched by anything other than YOUR FACE Fluttershy.

Actually you can't reply to a reply, the only reply link is for the original comment, so the one level thing isn't a problem as much as it is the expected outcome of a feature that doesn't exist (that feature being the ability to reply to a reply).

It's not just you, much has changed about the comment system this time, it's not just visual.
Now we have nested replies (something many liked from the disqus days). The commenting boxes are also wider by default.
But sadly pages now load incredibly slowly and require scripting from blogblog.com, yet another Google site. In this case it appears blogblog exists for the sole purpose of enabling the "load more" function for pages with lots of comments. The slowdown is quite severe, pages take several more seconds before they become fully responsive. It's almost as slow as disqus.
Also the comment boxes are really bad with Firefox, Firefox has the native ability to resize text entry boxes, the old system dealt with this rather poorly, but at least it made an effort. Now when you drag resize the text box, the results can be weird.
Also I'm pretty sure it broke the EQD helper greasemonkey script.
I'm not sure if Seth chose this or if Google volunteered him for it.
Sorry if my above comments look weird, they were posted when nested replies was enabled, now they just look out of place. Can't edit them so I'll just leave them.
Now we're back almost to the original blogger method, but commenting is now done via a link to the blogger site.
And now we're mostly back to where we started today, what a sleigh ride. Weeeeeeeeeee.
