That HP setup was indeed a hoax, and I fell for it all the way. I didn't set it up, but it ensnared me rather easily. Looking back, it's laughably obvious that I should've been much warier and wiser. I should recognize such fabrications. Regardless, I accept full responsibility for my egregious mistake and sincerely apologize for it. I'm sorry, everyone. I got duped.
My fatal flaw is that I illogically hope for all people to be straightforward and honest. Consider the somber reality otherwise a harsh lesson learned...again.
Update: Thank you all for the support - most sincerely. =) Pony fans *are* the greatest people in the world. I'll carry on, and I'll enjoy the ride with all of you! For now, Tek out.

ReplyDeleteHe believed an obvious hoax, and posted a big news like "HewlettPackard of all companies is catering to Bronies" on the most popular Brony site on the internet.
The problem is that he believed the source was trustworthy. That's the problem. He shouldn't be naive. He shouldn't be trusting someone he met one week ago on the internet.
I'd also like to say, he kinda made an idiot out of himself. NOT his fault, as you can see, but he's been trusting this guy and wasn't picking up on his sarcasm for about 8 days. The guy friggin crowns him as the "HP DeviantART watcher of the month". A company... does that... And he...umm...
No, if for some weird, ridiculous reason you think I'm insulting this guy, I've done things several times more stupid than he did and I know what it's like to be insulted for something like that. I listened to their criticism on what I did and tried to improve, but I would've rather they didn't spit at me and push me around. I've never met Tek, but I'm sure---no, I KNOW he's a cool dude.
So balance things out as much as I can, here's Sibsy falling for the troll.

The fake HP guy couldn't reply with another one of his slightly sarcastic slightly passive-aggressive comments though. He got banned just a few minutes after.

All good. Just hope nobody else got too excited for it. But hey, maybe sometime in the not too distant future products like this (though hopefully not backed by HP) will exist.

Eh I don't mind. It was an entertaining troll. Besides, at the end of the day EqD is just a blog on the internet, can't be expected to get everything right all the time.

ReplyDeletePlus look on the bright side, knowing this community, the troll very likely inspired some of us that could actually do that kind of stuff to do it and spread the awesomeness. And with how quick the fandom works, would not be surprised to see legitimate modded laptops and PC's to start showing up in the EQD mailbox, and if they did before, more might show up now.
