The Zecora-Apple Bloom relationship is interesting to me. I guess Zecora is becoming Apple Bloom's mentor rather than Twilight's. I hope they explore this a little more in this episode.

It's not as much about status quo (though I hate that one with passion, I keep in mind MLP team has executives behind its back) as it is about premise. I mean, love potions is the lamest way to introduce romance, with subtlety akin to jackhammer, it cheapens whole affair (not to mention it's been done to death)
If legitimate couple is not an option, writers could always put some effort and come up with plausible reasons for romantically involved to part, like family circumstances, work and so on. And it would actually be a lesson.

I think they purposely DON'T want legitimate love (the romantic type) in this show. They are keeping the target demographic in mind. 6 year old girls aren't interested in real, deep relational love. They just view it is crazy crushes, pink floaty hearts, and love potions. Studio B is keeping things appropriate.
Romantic comedy? In MY pony? Why not.
Well damn, maybe Applebloom's talent IS potion making.

I had a feeling this was how the CMC would mess with things. Though, that having been said, I can definitely see things still working out in the end.
Perhaps the CheeriMac shipping can still be rendered canon, with the two of them still having genuine feelings for the other even after the effects of the potions are lifted. Remember Big Mac and the Smarty Pants doll from Lesson Zero, even after the Want-It-Need-It was dispelled?
I can see that happening. ...Or, at least, the two of them being completely embarrassed about it...but the two of them not discounting the chance there might be something between them, and leaving the possibility open to develop a true relationship.
If nothing else, I'm still looking forward to the episode.

By the end of the episode, Big Mac and Cheerilee are almost certainly going to go their separate ways. I'm thinking the CMCs are going to slip the potion into Cheerilee's water or something and Big Mac may not even want a relationship. He might even be gay for all we know.

I think it's actually pretty likely that at the end of the episode, there will be one new relationship that carries on. I think what's most likely is that "Cheerimac" will work out DESPITE the love potion ...
But... But I don't understand? Fluttershy is the one get the love potion right? I mean they even stand together on the train platform in The last roundup! Just a small sidestep towards each other and a little imagination and they're practically a couple for neighing out loud!

Sure, love potions are overdone, but there's only so many ways a kids show can do the whole "third party tries to get two people/ponies together and hilarity ensues" plot line.
I'm very sure it'll be hilarious and a great episode. I mean, they took on cliches like the Halloween and Christmas/Holiday episode and those were awesome.
Episode Zero mark II? Poor Big Mac is again on the receiving end of mind control magic.
Is this stuff even legal in Equestria? I highly doubt any society with access to such level of magic or technology would not take measures to protect itself against it. Like Culture series, where violating integrity of mind was considered the worst possible crime.

The writers on this show do seem to enjoy doing that, lol. I'm going to go ahead and call it that this episode is gonna be awesome XD

Yeah there's a love potion and a possibility of relationship involved, but I don't think the episode is trying to focus on either. It's about the CMC messing up again and it just happens to include (an attempt at) love because of the holiday. In fact, the show probably agrees with you that "love potions suck" since the moral looks to be "don't do them".
So that is what they were doing after The Cutie Pox.

Sounds familiar...Oh i know where i have heard this before! Mighty Morphing Power Rangers season 2. Rita uses a love potion on Zedd to make him fall in love with her but the potion had some unexpected side affects. The side affects were that Zedd wanted to move the relationship along to fast(and also have a kid)and the reason behind these side affects were that Zedd actually loved Rita without the love potions power

I predict: Everyone falls in love with Big Mac OR Big Mac starts macking on everyone. Anyway it turns out, I'm going to enjoy finally having a Big Mac story. I bet the shippers are going to have fun forever with this one.
As for the argument about the love potion, it's pretty much a way to represent an abstract notion like forced affection in an identifiable physical form. So yeah, not breaking ground, but it's difficult to think of a more effective way to get that lesson across to the young'uns.
I ain't much for shipping, but Cheerilee and Big Mac? DO WANT! Ooooh the hilarity, I can already imagine it.

Here is my guess:
At the end, Cheerilee and Mac will drink the antidote and they will be back to normal, but just before the episode ends, Zecora will notice that the potion's effects had already worn off on their own hours ago, >implying that Cherilee and Mac were genuinely interested on each other.

Judging by the description, this is going to be a pretty darn good episode. Regardless of whether or not this will be actual love, I have a feeling that this is gonna be above average.
Right now I'm thinking that:
1. The CMC will make a love potion because
-A. they misinterpret something that Cheerilee/ Big Mac says/does as affection toward Big Mac/ Cheerilee.
-B. Cheerilee/ Big Mac actually does have feelings toward Big Mac/ Cheerilee, but Cheerilee/ Big Mac has some reason or excuse to not act upon their feelings, and the CMC feel like they should help their teacher/ friend.
-C. they did it completely by accident.
2. "Side effects".

Don't forget that this show is aimed at 4 to 6 year old girls.I doubt this will start an actual relationship since little kids don't really care about romance.It's also not uncommon for children's shows to use love potion just because it's a Valentine's day special.The only thing that is going to come out of it is the CMCs learning not to try to force ponies into a relationship.

I bet it starts out with the CMC noticing that Big Mac and Cheerilie are exchanging romantic looks as Hearts and Hooves day approches but they are both to shy to say anything. CMC get the bright idea to play cupid and mix up a love potion, only things don't go according to plan. So the CMC have to run damage control and find a cure to the love potion. Friendship lesson: Don't mess with other people's love.

i suspect those harking on a repeat of Professor Utonium and Ms. Keane's sortie. It's really a good example. Story starts good, it goes bad. Story starts bad, it goes good. That is oversymplifying of course, but as a general rule of thumb, it gets the job done.
