@Eric The animation for the counter only moves at 100/sec but the actually counting keeps up. Remember what number it is and refresh the page and you will get the actual number.
Remember that the actual number can go up faster than the ghetto counter on the right side of the page. If you refresh your page, that counter will probably jump up. Rather than have the counter constantly using bandwidth to get the real actual value, the counter only updates on page refresh, when it's left unattended it just tries to guess the traffic I think.
Unfortunately, that will be impossible, because the counter will stop ticking up at 99,999,999. To get a nine-digit number, you'll have to refresh the page, and by the time you do, it'll already be past the 100 million mark.
It's 1AM over here. I'm deciding on whether to stay up or go to bed and wake up in the morning to find the milestone broken, which has been the same for every other milestone. *facehoof*

How does this hit counter work anyway? I know it's not real time, because there's no data traffic between the server and my browser while it's counting. Does it just estimate a count based on the hit rate for the last few minutes?
Either way, I wonder if the code can handle 100,000,000. Will it add another digit gracefully? Or roll back to 00000000 and make us refresh? THE WORLD WILL KNOW SOON.
@zorinlynx Read the earlier posts. The counter goes up consistently at 100 page view per minute, regardless of the number of page views the blog is actually getting.

You all know that the counter is too slow, right? If you have looked at it for some time, and then refresh the page, it will dramatically increase. That way, many people will see the turnover at different times! :P
(And I don't know if this has been mentioned before, haven't read all the comments)
