Welcome back, recruits! I'm happy to see you're learning the masterful art of tic tac toe as a style of dueling. It's complicated and deadly, and it's often said that the only winning move is not to play, but my goodness when it's in action is it ever beautiful. Ahem. Today was back to what this event is all about - scrambling to get a picture made inside of 24 hours. It's hard, isn't it? But you've risen to the challenge, with 420 fighters with eyes of fire. That brings our official total for the event up to 1478 images! You're doing so well, keep it up!
As always, here are your submission guidelines for the event. Remember to send your images in here, which you hopefully won't crush under the weight up your uploads this time. Remember once again to get the full image url if you're linking from DeviantART! And yadda yadda yadda, names and comments, you've heard this all before. Sorry that this is always the most boring part of the post.
Day 4: Your Princess Is In Another Castle
It's now been more than a week since the battles started, and each day has been much the same. You wake up, you charge out, and you scramble and try not to get the tar beaten out of you while raspberry jam flies around like so much nuclear waste. That is, until today. Today, there is no wakeup call and march to battle. Instead, you find yourself herded into a tent full of very important looking ponies. They give the briefest of nods before returning to the map on the table in front of them.
"So," a purple unicorn begins, "What do we know?"
"Well, as you are aware, several major objectives are handed out throughout the contest. And if I may say, they are worth major points. We've just heard about the largest of those: a surgical strike and rescue mission. It's time to save our captured princess."
"They got the princesses in on this? Who do we get? Luna? Celestia?"
"Er... um... no, not exactly. She's a... well, let's call her a 'volunteer'. You met her the other day, remember? White pegasus, pinkish mane, tangled up in the auxiliary cabling? She was very eager for this."
And now all eyes turn to you. It's all you can manage to stare blankly back. "Um... what do you need me for?"
"Well, that's simple!" the purple unicorn smiles, "You're going to get in there and save her! Because our charts say you're the best of the... um... remaining."

And I have lived through another day of the ATG. Finished mine only a few minutes ago and I literally don't feel too good. I was stressing big time trying to get mine finished in time. #326 if you care for a look. But I'm dead serious. If this were a test, I'd bomb it big time.
Rescue mission, eh? This sounds like one I should really be able to get behind. I had a lot of problems with the one I did today (224). Most of them were technical, but it was still difficult to really come up with something good for today's comic given the character and role I had established him.

#251 here, drew from scratch in about three hours. So you'll have to forgive the messy background and overall roughness. I'm trying to draw with different perspectives, styles, and techniques each day. As a result, my experimenting results in pretty hasty drawings.
Mine is 243. The proportions are all wrong. Plus, I suck at perspective. However, I thought the reference was pretty good.
I'm enjoying this. It's not the art itself but the idea.
Lol. I haven't watched/played Yu-Gi-Oh for longer than I can remember, but when I saw the theme, that's what came to mind :) Mine's 298 if anyone's interested. Kind of a rough sketch - I ran out of time to touch up and color it. Meh. Maybe later :)

I was halfway done with a Yu-gi-oh piece when i said "I should switch." SO GLAD! So I came up with a new OC :D on #313 the red one is new. All on an Ipad with a bamboo stylus. I dont think its too shabby :P

Yeah, that part was largely inspired by one particular Calvin & Hobbes Strip. If I remember correctly, Calvin was screaming about Rosalyn the babysitter coming over to look after him once again, and his mother said just about the same line Gilda did there. Combine that with the 'Sweetie Derelle' face that the bronies made and it was just too good to pass up putting in today's comic XD

Yeah there is three types of weapons. The sword from my second picture since it worked so well and it was colorful enough on the tail.I figured out how to wrap the tail around the hendle. Ninja stars being thrown from the hoof and a dagger in the mouth. With the dagger I tried to have it trail down before as you may beable to see but that wasn't working so I put it behind her hair.
Here is the typical process I do these pictures. I come up with an idea for the ATG then I find reference pictures and or expressions online then I bring out my tools and then I draw. Works pretty well.
Tomorrow's theme sounds fun. Sure wish I could participate, but I'm still at college.
Well, I'm sure tomorrow will bring a lot of pictures of tied-up Phoe to cheer me up.
...And I mean that in the most non-creeper way that it's possible to say a sentence like that.

Mine's 261, and if you look closely you can see an *ahem* expertly drawn Pinkie Pie about to give a gryphon a taste of the Party Cannon XD.

This event has been just what I needed to get back into the swing of drawing and inking a picture every day. It's also helping to push be a little beyond my comfort zone, encouraging me to try things I don't normally do (like perspective, and composition!) Still not sure what I'll do about tomorrow's entry, but I'm kind of excited by the challenge.

Had a hell of a time trying to figure out how to draw the angle I wanted for Silver Lining's decent, and even with that griffon pic as a reference, I'm not good at drawing them. I even had to bust out my D&D Monster Manuals to take a look at some alternate versions.
Pro Tip: D&D Griffons are retardedly badass, and would make mincemeat out of Little Ponies in less than a round.
Super Pro Tip: Dragoons make mincemeat out of flying creatures (like griffons!) in less than a round.
Extra Super Pro Tip: Who wins in a fight between a Griffon and a Pony Dragoon all comes down to who wins initiative, and lands the first hit.

Working on my picture right now. I started with the foreground first then background and and then the left side of the picture.The thing on the left side of the screen is something from the show and I think it would fit in the background which I have here or at least the enviroment I have here. I will say this though my picture will be very "gamey."

Wow, I must have submitted mine comparatively early if it ended up at #79. It was still the last thing I did before bed that day, though. And it looks crap compared to a lot of the other submissions. On the bright side, it does show that "Lesson Zero" is not a complete waste of 455MB of disk space.
Onto other people's submissions: What's with all the card games? What does that have to do with duels?

About the card game question. Look up Yu-gi-oh!! and that should answer your question but basically the catch phrase for the cartoon is "It's time to Duel!"
Duel has lots of different meanings.
On my picture I think I may have hit a small road block. Not really sure how to put a character on a pony's back while it is running away from something. I can't really move on with my picture till I do this...
I wonder, if i will be able to make a comic in time. Have one idea in mind, but fear to miss a deadline...

You don't 'suck' at this at all. It's more than we can ask for of one pony to handle this event to begin with seeing as how huge the community has grown and become eager to produce in the time since you last hosted it.
What you need is a team of ponies to help you with this, next time you try it, so you don't have to shoulder so much of the burden yourself. You started this thing and can lead it, but you don't need to go through as much as you have been for this on top of everything else you do online and in real life. I'm sure there are lots of people that'd be willing to help check and comment on submissions -- the ATG on dA gets about a fifth of this much action on a per-week basis and they still have a collection of several head ponies that take care of business for that group, so why shouldn't you?

Mine just went through fine. If you're using DA, make sure you use the image URL, not the page it's on's URL. Right click your picture, select 'View Picture', then copy and paste the new URL from the taskbar.

It seems uploading-URL doesn't accept images if there is too much text in "Comment to the Editor" description field.
Tried to upload with more than 7 sentences, it didn't accept, but when tried with less than 3, suddenly a successful upload.

Whew! Unfortunately having only an hour and a half after getting home from work is making me rush. I'll probably end up retouching a lot of my pictures later...
My drawing is finally completed and uploaded! As always, I used my only tools available: a pencil with an eraser and a sucky camera. Unfortunately, I suck at taking pictures as much as I suck at drawing.
