• Addendum to Derpy Hooves

Image removed as requested! You will have to take our word on this one

As some of you just recently discovered in the earlier post, a supposed "uprising" of angry anti-derpy people popped up.  We never reported on it, because the messages in the EQD inbox were pretty mixed on the subject. A few were saying it was a small section of people, while others blew it out of proportion.  The disappearance of the iTunes episode did point to this actually being relevant, but.... someone sent this screenshot of an email they sent to DHX.  Apparently they haven't been effected at all by this.  It sounds like Derpy is here to stay, and all fears should be sent TO THE MOON.

    Now onward to more derp!

Note: We have been deleting emails about the original screenshot for quite a while now.  So thanks to everyone that sent it regardless of it's legitimacy.

    3. Perfect, guys...watch the show with a light heart. Its what it was made for anyway.

    4. OK, well there you go guys. There was never anything to worry about. Anyone reading this that's working on the show: YOU GUYS TOTALLY ROCK!!! :D

    5. Woah, one-star off the bat, someone's pissed lmao

    6. Thank you Seth for clrearing that up!

now delete that other post before there's a nuclear war!

    7. I liked Derpy and I don't think the small neighsayers in the audience warrant much attention.

      ReplyDelete
    8. @SpikesQuest I think everything's cooled down there at the moment. Unless something's drastically changed while I stepped away.

    9. I actually want a Derpy episode to come up in the future. Didn't anyone else think she was adorable? I did. Especially when she looked down into the hole her arse made. ^3^

      ReplyDelete
    10. Okay, well I do feel silly now for my mini-rant.

I will amend that by saying, "YAY FOR DERPY!"

      ReplyDelete
    11. @DeeperMadness That's exactly how she came off to me. And don't get me started with my sister. She's only five, so she's not so in tune with the show as the rest of us, but she went totally nuts over that scene. She keeps quoting stuff from that every few minutes.

      ReplyDelete
    12. Cool. I'm just happy to see people happy. Keeping an eye out for more of Derpy!

      ReplyDelete
    13. I am incredibly relieved that the so-called backlash was small enough that it didn't reach DHX. Still doesn't excuse the people who blew things way out of proportion though.

Watch the show, don't take it too seriously, have fun, enjoy it for what it is.

      ReplyDelete
    14. I can't say I like Derpy, but I'm very glad this turned out to be nonsense. Writing letters of complaint about her would've been a whole new level of pathetic.

      ReplyDelete
    15. I loved how they portrayed Derpy, In-fact Derpy went from my favorite to my uber favorite because of how they portrayed her. She reminds me of me. I do speak like her and things have a bad habit of breaking around me. One thing I do not have is any mental challenges and I do not see Derpy as having any either. Just a helpful yet socially awkward pony who is a klutz

    16. It seems the likely scenarios now are (in order of likeliness):

1: Apple Derped the Derpy Episode. It's just missing, an error.

2: The trolls targeted *apple* to take it down, as Hasbro seem to know nothing about it. Apple have been a bit dumb and took it down as a knee-jerk response to complaints submitted through their interface.

Either way it'll probably get sorted out in a day or so once their people have talked to each other. If the latter, it might even persuade Hasbro they need more than one distribution outlet for their product, which would also make the apple-haters happy (and remove their last pitiful excuse for not supporting the show! :-D )

    17. Thank god the staff is also very understanding; some people just can't remember this is a light-hearted kids show...

    18. good, i can go to bed now :D

but jeez, slow down! a RBD episode with derpy?! youre gonna give me a heart attack! *feints

      ReplyDelete
    19. Why can't everyone just love and tolerate Derpy... :(

      ReplyDelete
    20. @Alpha Omega

That's how I interpreted her too. Clumsy and awkward but not dumb. Also adorable.

      ReplyDelete
    21. @DeeperMadness

Well if there really was a backlash worth the name, the correct response to it would have been a creative response. A day in the life of Ponyville's mailmare, getting her postbag delivered despite the mane 6 getting in the way all the time due to some madcap thing they're doing in the background would be brilliant

    25. Honestly if Hasbro and the entire team can't see the OVERWHELMING outpouring of love and appreciation we've shown for the appearance of Derpy in the show proper, then I'd be insanely surprised. This is one of those cases where the vocal minority is just that, a MINORITY!

We love Derpy, and we want to see more of her!

      ReplyDelete
    26. I swear some bronies take this show way too serious and just need to calm the fuck done. This is why I only go on equestria daily one o
of the only sane pony websites, all i hear is whining and bitching from people on most brony websites. It makes me hate fellow bronies.

      ReplyDelete
    27. Derpy is that special blend of adorable ane clumsy. So much love. Glad she's here to stay.

      ReplyDelete
    28. @reclaimedvalor Same here. Everyone, send virtual hugs Derpy's way!

And I think I should get to sleep. It's almost 4 friggin' AM on my end.

      ReplyDelete
    29. Boy, I really hope this is the last piece of news I see about this. I just want my Derpy and continued harmony in Bronyland.

      ReplyDelete
    30. Good. The whole thing was ridiculous.

      ReplyDelete
    31. @Unknown
the last thing we need is some dumb 'war' between bronies over a background character.

      Live and let live.

Also to quote some lyrics from the theme song of another amazing show:

"Just repeat to yourself, its just a show, you really should relax!"

      ReplyDelete
    32. @Unknown, why would you want to even bother fighting your perspective? There's only a very small minority of butthurt people, and they should brush themselves off and realize Derpy is a positive shout-out to all of us bronies, and we all appreciate DHX Media and Hasbro for doing this. Not saying you should like Derpy, but she's not mentally disabled, nor is she retarded; she's a fun, yet clumsy, character. Much like Goofy.

      ReplyDelete
    33. Well, Derpy wasn't totally going anywhere anyway. The episode was already produced. Can't really take it back now. lol At most what would have happened, was no more her being called Derpy. Which may not happen again anyway. It's well-known Derpy is a fan favorite to many more than those who dislike her or that particular name for her. she's going to be around in some form I'm sure. Some people are still going to continue to rant and moan and complain, but you know how people (read: idiots) can be sometimes. Just ignore them and continue enjoying the show. :)

      ReplyDelete
    34. It's not like any future appearances will be hard to fix. Find the voicetrack, make it a pitch higher, voila.

      ReplyDelete
    35. If ANY emails are sent to Hasbro, please for the love of Celestia, don't mention the imaginary Derpy backlash. Say all the positive things you want, but don't get them worked up about something that doesn't exist, or remind them that it might.

      ReplyDelete
    36. A thousand glorious victories for the Muffin Queen of Storms!

      ReplyDelete
    37. @Daniel G.

Well no, the last piece of news we need is that the episode has been duly restored. Maybe they'll notice and fix the episode numbering too.

      ReplyDelete
    38. i the nicest possible way some bronies can be idiots Derpy was a shout out to all of us in a thanks for the support kinda gesture and some people just want to make it out to be a bad thing

      ReplyDelete
    39. its ok ppl, there's still time to IRRATIONALLY PANIC!!!

      ReplyDelete
    40. @Hedrah
To be honest, I think the funniest and most proper thing would be to have Tabitha keep that same "mistakenly male" voice for Derpy. Her eyes were a mistake in production, it'd be a nice little in-joke between the production staff and the bronies to have her voice be one as well. It kinda fits her, ya know?

      ReplyDelete
    41. Oh yeah, and the voice used for her. Keep forgetting people were also getting their panties in a twist over that. I swear, like some have stated, this is a kids show. And some people take it WAY too seriously. Get another hobby or something, jeez. If you're this focused on this show and little things you need something more to fill your days with. And if you're that insulted by the show... well, other than perhaps having some personal issues, just don't watch it.

      ReplyDelete
    42. Thank you for your dilligant reporting, Seth.

Thinking about it more... I kind of hope they keep Derpy's voice in tact and don't go back to edit the already finished episode. Something like that is a moment that I think we'd like to revisit in it's purest form.

If they do edit old episodes, the only one I can think of is switching "Ditzy-Doo" to "Derpy" in Winter Wrap-Up... if they're meant to be the same. Even then, I won't lose sleep over it.

      So... sure, change the voice in later episodes if you feel you must (since Tabitha thought Derpy was a colt), but don't get too edit-happy. ^^;

And iTunes, hurry up with putting the episode back up. The Last Roundup was one of the best episodes of the season and a sure moneymaker.

      ReplyDelete
    43. @Octavia
LOL better keep pushing that they might change the name "derpy", despite the screencap of "were happy to give DERPY more of a role (etc)"

      ReplyDelete
    44. @StrangeNoise

Yeah, that would be nice too ^.^

      ReplyDelete
    45. @shadowfalcon76 Oh, definitely on that point. Everything about Derpy just works. There shouldn't be a need to change it.

      ReplyDelete
    46. Anyone who gets offended by Derpy/Ditzy's appearance oughta give their heads a shake.

All me, my coltfriend, any other ponies I hang with got out of that pony was that she is an clumsy, silly pony and her voice is pure adorableness. Sounded like she had a stuffed nose...! Too cute. >w<

      ReplyDelete
    47. @CityFlyer502

When I was watching HaxMega's livestream, everyone in the comments was ecstatic about seeing her and hearing her being called be name. To see such backlash is just so unusual, considering all of the praise that we constantly send out.

Tabitha, the writers and the animators must all be scratching their heads and saying to themselves "I just don't know what went wrong."

      ReplyDelete
    48. @DeeperMadness Tragically, I was forced to shovel snow at the same time the show aired, so while I did eventually see the reaction, I was more than a little upset that I wasn't there to witness it firsthand. Hopefully nothing will get in the way when "Smile" debuts.

    55. Cult of Ditzy Doo you say? we already exist

      ReplyDelete
    56. @StrangeNoise

To be honest, asking for a full episode is rather greedy of us. We've already been blessed with acknowledgment with DJ P0n-3 and the "bronies" moniker. Not to mention that they put a fan character into an episode for us. I can't deny that I'd like to see more Derpy though. Actually, I'd like to see a lot more of the background ponies in general. Bonbon's voice makes me crack up whenever I hear it.

But "A Day in the Life of Derpy the Postmare"? Where do I sign to make it happen?

      ReplyDelete
    57. This made me feel SO much better! Glad to have this dumbness over with.

    60. Derpy to me honestly did seem retarded rather then just clumsy and clueless as she was first shown to be. I'm not boycotting the show, or hating on derpy at all though. I trust DHX, Hasbro and The HUB didn't mean for it to come off that way. But I can't help but assume some bronies could be really off put by this, not to mention some parents.

I felt that at first but then when I heard that the VA thought derpy was male, that explained the voice a lot for me and I realized if it was a male, it wouldn't have sounded quite as... "special" and
I'm thinking if the VA did the "female" version of that voice, it wouldn't sound nearly as bad.

      ReplyDelete
    65. Ehh'...it's a lost cause:I doubt they'll ever solve this pickle

      ReplyDelete
    66. All fears? To the moon?

That is suggesting there was something to actually be worried about, especially when the Muffin Queen will never leave our hearts.

      ReplyDelete
    67. if they didn't know before they sure as hell know now... you all realize that, right?

      ReplyDelete
    68. @Adrian Brony

Most likely, but that's not how it was recieved. It was likely just a couple of mistakes that ended up looking like they added up to worse.

Off topic (and not addressed to you, but just as a general comment) most of the Derpy backlash was over the name and from those who said it had connotations poking fun at mentally disabled people. I know there's the common "oh that's not what it means" but it *can* mean that and the only people I bothered getting opinions from all had very personal stories as to why they were hurt that the FiM team decided to use this name on this specific character.

I wouldn't presume to call this "imaginary" there was pretty clear backlash, just not here, and to be honest? A lot of the people defending Derpy's name were the ones who came off as overly defensive, hostile, and offensive. At least on the forums/imageboards/blogs that I follow. I know we talk about love and tolerance but it was disheartening to see the levels of vitriol I saw from "fans" of the show (and this character) and people I shared a community with.

Just my two cents, I'd have preferred "Ditzy Doo." It was already in the show, and didn't feel as...shark-jumpy? Personal fan-canon to me is that's the character's real name and "Derpy" is just a mean nickname Dash gave her (like "egghead" or something.)

      ReplyDelete
    69. Well..

Derpy seems retarded and they are making fun of a retard in the show. The level of political correctness in NA usually sinks much delicate jokes so I must say that I was expecting a shitstorm which fortunately did not come.

I personally preferred when Derpy was a silent character in the background because we could do with her whatever we wanted. It's awesome that writers have done so much but IMHO it's sometimes better to keep some things on the "mystery" level. It's not a critique - just saying. The episode with Derpy was great.

      Ps.
Ms. St. Germain, please drop by sometimes on EqD or some other fansite. It should prevent gender-bending in the future ;)

      ReplyDelete
    70. Everypony, maybe they pulled the episode for another reason? Note that there have been differences between broadcast and iTunes editions on at least one occasion (Dog and Pony Show), so maybe they're fixing up something that made it through to iTunes, like continuity or animation errors?

      ReplyDelete
    71. @Sharkman Jhones

I was a little bit worried about her, but only because of the voice, not the name.

when I found out that he voice was caused by the VA thinking it was a colt, I immediately realized that if derpy were a colt, that voice would not seem nearly as... "special" on her.

so after I heard the explanation of the voice, I dropped my concerns about it.

      ReplyDelete
    72. @Adrian Brony oops, you responded to the comment of me saying just that.

anyway, I was fine with derpy, would have been fine with ditzy. and there is a reason I don't go to imageboards very often.

      ReplyDelete
    73. Wait, there was a backlash to Derpy?

      ReplyDelete
    74. Personally, I never ever saw the term "derpy" as meaning retarded. Maybe not that bright or not all there, but not retarded. More like, prone to brain farts or not the most graceful. I see it at worst as mildly teasing, but certainly not malicious.

      ReplyDelete
    75. @Jeremy
Derpy was a word that deprived from Derp. A word created from users of the I telnet to describe, clumsy, or mistaken.

      ReplyDelete
    76. One thing is, you fight over anything you can find a reason to fight over. They didn't do it for this or that. It's quite simple if you stop trying to pick lies or look to much into it from you're own denial or oppression. Derpy was raised from fans, you gave her the name Derpy, it doesn't even tie with "special". And two, her voice has no matter, it sounds what it sounds. She's also a fictional character given little thought into character development. You say this and that, and try to find some made up given reason but really it was like this: "Let's make the fans happy by calling her Derpy." then: "Oh hey, can you do the voice for Ditzy" that's all.

      ReplyDelete
    77. @Adrian Brony

Yeah, they can be pretty poisonous, but mine was particularly slow paced and filled with far less of the volatile elements of say, 4chan proper, and well...Somebody reposted a long tumblr post where somebody basically said "I work with disabled kids, I've seen image macros making fun of these types of kids with 'derp' or 'derp-face' used, and I don't feel comfortable with this character's name." In fact, that's really the whole crux of most of the more personal negative reactions I saw. Somebody close to them has a disability and they've been exposed to the kind of crap on the internet that can turn a word like this into something hurtful. Derp can just mean silly or oafish, South Park used that, but you can also construe it to be making fun of the noises a kid with Down's or a similar condition might make if they try to talk. It's not something that's common, it's not something we might think about or even realize, but to some people that's what it is.

(Things kinda got worse from there, the reposter followed up by saying "Haha, I hope they keep doing this so they can keep making these dumbass liberals angry." A post from a special ed worker saying their piece and that's the flak it got just for speaking up.
I expected it from 4chan or maybe ponychan but this was my "home turf" so to speak: I'm a mod on one of the other boards there and I'd been posting there since 2008, or 2009.)

The name and it's offensive context don't seem as wide-spread as this character is, but there were people out there who were actually, y'know, hurt by this and I've always been a big softie, it's hard not to empathize, at least for me.

Anyway, it's late where I am and I got stuff to wake up for, but that's just my perspective on it.

      ReplyDelete
    78. I'd like to know why there was no shitstorm over Snips, Snails and Rarity's window cleaner. Apparently it is okay for males to be portrayed as morons in a girls show, but heaven forbid it be a girl! Oh and where the F is Puppy Dogs Tails? Snips and Snails are incomplete without him.

      ReplyDelete
    79. @Otherunicorn

One last comment from me, actually:

Snips and Snails are just weird kids. You can't call them mentally challenged either, they're in the same class as tons of other kids, learning the same lessons.

Rarity's window cleaner? Yeah, that might be a sore spot. But the deal behind him was that he was a bumpkin with a menial job and no "refined manners" from what's supposed to be a small rural town in front of tons of fancy people.

Don't turn this into a gender issue, because it isn't one. All I've seen commented on was the name, mannerisms, and in some cases, the eyes, never that it was a girl.

Puppy Dog Tails is obviously Snips' older brother and an accomplished pet groomer. Duh.

      ReplyDelete
    80. Derpy's scene wasn't even the most questionable content of the entire episode. Pinkie's relentless use of the word 'cumquat' seemed to be more inappropriate. I mean, I know it's a fruit, but still, look at the goddamn word. CUMQUAT.

Harkens back the days when other great cartoons used harmless yet obscene sounding words just for laughs. Good times...

      ReplyDelete
    81. Haters gonna hate.

      ReplyDelete
    82. Ah, you know a show is a hit when it develops a small yet vocal following comprised mainly of humorless proles. I personally thought Derpy was a hilarious addition to the secondary cast.

      ReplyDelete
    83. @Sharkman Jhones

Thing is, kids who call kids names, will use any word to hand. Take "gay". Take the name "Joey" (That may need an explanation: When I was growing up in the UK, a kids tv show (Blue Peter) ran a mini-documentary series featuring an adult with learning difficulties called "Joey". Naturally his name instantly became a playground insult. Push your tongue into your lower lip when saying it for the full effect. Any kid, male or female, whose name even had the syllable "Jo" anywhere in it, was fair game.

Those kind of kids will use any word to hand. I think the worst thing you can do is validate their use of it by trying to ban it elsewhere; then you really are turning it into a bad word.

    88. I didn't even know there were people who didn't like derpy huh....who knew? anywho I don't see the big deal hear voice was great it sounded like the voice of someone who derps everything also It's to late to second guess themselves now the episode is out and probably been watched millions of times so oh well right?

The point I'm trying to get at here.....I LOVE DERPY!!!

      ReplyDelete
    89. Never really got the hate behind the episode, I was just in awe that they went out of their way to reference it. It wasn't just sticking her in the background or making her do something funny - it was a full scene, and that was something I didn't think any background pony could do, even Derpy.

Still, glad I was proved wrong.

      ReplyDelete
    90. @nemryn
      1) Derpy is her OFFICIAL NAME. Gosh, just deal with it.

      2) "Hurr durr, screw canon. I'm going to blame Dash because she called Derpy by a that wasn't Ditzy. She's a jerk and that's what jerks do, durr."

      ReplyDelete
    92. Some people could say that Richard or Dick are offensive names... seriously though, you are letting a name rule your emotions.

"Derp" hasn't really been a common place word, more akin to that of an inside joke by the internet.

I find her name, the from a phonetic point of view the, 'Derpy' to be very sweet sounding.

Our community is supposed to be more mature than this... seriously it's just a name, Derpy or Ditzy, the character is adorable. Lets not act like a bunch of spoiled kids and throw a tantrum with each new episode!

    94. Well, thankfully the small 'backlash' has remained just that: small. While I don't agree with the stance, I can understand why some people thought she came off as mentally challenged. Seriously though, do they really think the show's crew would actually make her that way? Derpy has been doing silly, sometimes dumb, stuff in the background in some of season one and especially throughout season 2 but suddenly now she's a problem, all because of her voice? Seems like knee-jerk overreaction to me.

      ReplyDelete
    95. Good, it sounds like the producers of the show are level-headed enough to ignore the inane ranting of a perpetually angry minority and pay attention to the rest of us, who actually appreciate all the hard work they do in bringing us this awesome show every week. Nice to have my faith in humanity restored every so often. :)

      ReplyDelete
    96. FOR CELESTIAS SAKE!! Derpy dropped a flower pot, an anvil, a cart full of hay and a piano on twilights head. NO ONE SAID A THING! Now, everyone's hating on her just because of being clumsy? Seriously Derpy haters, grow the **** up... Why is there always people trying to see discrimination or racism where there isn't?

Anyway... I also wanted to say how much I loved Tabithas voice on Derpy, it suited so well. "You ok Rainbow Dash!?" So adorable /)^.^(\

To be honest, I was afraid that, when Faust left, the show would be somehow not as good as the first season. But now? They really put those fears to rest. They're doing a GREAT job. The guys on the show are really awesome, I love them for aknowledging this peculier fandom that we're part of. We all should thank them for doing this for US. Love you guys! Peace.

TL,DR: Derpy haters suck. Love the show.

      ReplyDelete
    97. Now, I didn't find anything wrong with Derpy. Like what Silsby said on her DA journal, Derpy is just a klutzy pony.

But I actually read, well it's not exactly hate, but controversy about Derpy. People find Derpy offensive because of things like her name and her eyes (Urban Dictionary says derp means 'A retarded smile, and the eyes pointing in different directions')and they think other children might get bullied or get called Derpy because of that. Her actions in the episode where she breaks everything. (I personally think that is nothing wring, she is just klutzy) and the fact Rainbow Dash told her not help. (might get children to tell kids with disablities to not help with anything, get bullied yeah. But they Derpy was breaking everything and Rainbow Dash isn't exactly the nicest character.)

But I think if any parents have any problems with the show, they should talk to their child first. (inb4 people go lolololool kids/parent watch cartoons lolololol, they do. They just don't post in the brony sites)

      ReplyDelete
    98. Also Derpy's voice, they think it's a 'durr hurr I'm retarded' voice but we know that Tabitha didn't know Derpy was a girl.

      ReplyDelete
    99. It's ironic that people that say Derpy is making fun of mentally challenged people are THEMSELVES using an unfair stereotype of mentally challenged people to draw the assumption.

It's like people that said Rainbow Dash promoted a gay stereotype, drawing upon said stereotype as evidence.

      ReplyDelete
    100. Is anyone allowed to just think "Derpy" is a dumb name while still adoring the character herself?

      ReplyDelete
    101. Yes the internet, where so-called "hardcore fans" will turn on you in an instant for completely contrived and pointless reasons.

      ReplyDelete
    102. Good to hear :) at least the imbeciles getting plothurt on such a topic are less than expected.

      ReplyDelete
    103. Why? There are lots of cartoons with stupid characters who are frankly pretty funny, and nobody accuses them of being offensive. Patrick Star is nothing short of "mentally challenged", but in the past... A LOT OF YEARS that Spongebob's been on the air, I haven't heard any complaints.

This was a fan-service to the bronies, and I don't see why people would be angry.

      ReplyDelete
    104. "It's ironic that people that say Derpy is making fun of mentally challenged people are THEMSELVES using an unfair stereotype of mentally challenged people to draw the assumption"

This! Right here! The only quarrel I had with this whole thing is the FANS taking it too seriously. I know someone with Downs Syndrome and I try to get people to stop saying "retarded" as an insult in every sentence, etc etc...But even I wasn't offended (Rather, I applauded) about Derpy and her appearance/voice. It's a fun show, so have fun with it!

      ReplyDelete
    105. I wonder if Disney ever had to deal with this bullshit since the creation of Goofy

      ReplyDelete
    106. I wouldn't doubt that there were a few people that felt offended by the appearance and the naming of Derpy. Because people are exactly like that. Any show with a large fanbase is prone to have the kind of people that swing their arms around and complain about everything. And I just have one thing to tell you about it:

THIS IS A CARTOON! A very good cartoon, but it IS STILL A CARTOON. FEELING OFFENDED BECAUSE OF A CARTOON is RIDICULOUS. Why complain about the name "Derpy"?

I think it's an adorable name! People might say it has a mean-spirited connotation to it, I say you are using the equivalent of an Echer drawing as an argument. Quite.

Feeling offended because of such an adorable character's name and behavior is the same thing as feeling offended by having Bugs Bunny give Elmer Fudd a wedgie. Seriously, guys.

And I have no idea just how big and bad the backlash was. Seth had to post something here just to tell us what's been going on because apparently it was relevant enough to show us that DHX apparently doesn't care and haven't been affected by it...

Come on, guys. If there is one thing that I don't want to see from this show, is the fanbase hating things from the show they love. Because then that's not love. ...It just isn't.

      ReplyDelete
    107. Really?AN anti-Derpy group? Isn't that taking a bit too far? I for one, am glad Derpy is staying. She was always my favorite BG pony and now that she's an canon, she's one of my favorite ponies altogether.

      ReplyDelete
    108. Who on earth would complain about Derpy? Hasbro and DHX were awesome enough to give a huge shout-out specifically to the bronies, and some people complain? Come one folks, get over yourselves.

If anyone from Hasbro/DHX happens to read this, I think Derpy was great. I really appreciate the time and effort it took to put what is essentially a fan character into the show. You all are awesome.

      ReplyDelete
    109. There was to much butt hurt over Derpy. she is best character.

      ReplyDelete
    110. @Lightning Fast

Some ponies just want to watch the world burn.

      ReplyDelete
    111. So... They had no idea about the angry outcry of fans who didn't like Derpy in that episode?

Well... I suppose that's a good thing... And a bad thing...

Either way, at LEAST they're not too badly effected by it, and it doesn't look like Hasbro has to "officially apologize" for Derpy's portrayal in that episode. Thanks goodness for that.

      ReplyDelete
    112. Dang vocal minority. Always trying to whine (whinny?) as though they're the majority. Turns out they were less threatening than a small pack of fleas.

      Derps Gonna Derp.

      ReplyDelete
    113. This is unbelivable and uncalled for. These moron whiners are going to get Derpy perminantly removed from the show!!! Stupid, whiny butthurt idiots. And I know from past experence, having with one of these deluded slumebucket "Anti-Derpy" fans on a website, already.

Talk about ungreatfulness. Hasbro bends over backwards to get a fan-developed character into the show for us, and a bunch of us, respond by screaming and whining and throwing a tantrum over it??!??!??!

I hate this community sometimes, I really do. When I first heard about this, I was so angry at the entire fan community that I just about quit and left the community for good, never to discuss ponies or join in to the fandom ever again.

It took me about 4 days to finally settle down and agree to be a part of the fandom of this show online again, and it makes me feel better to see the comments in here sticking up for Derpy.

These Anti-Derpy people are stupid idiots that are ruining this community. I know people are going to say this goes against this "Love and Tolerate" thing but I don't care. They should be shunned and looked down upon, and in my opinion are so ungreatful, backstabbing and pathetic, they don't deserve to be fans. They've already proven that they're only hurting the fanbase by being this way, so they shouldn't be a part of it.

Secondly, it's a cartoon. I'm getting really sick of some of these so-called "fans", that seem to act like they've never seen an animated show in their entire lives. It's incredibly pathetic to take a show this seriously, I don't care who you are.

And I personally, as a REAL fan, I won't stand for some of these trolls and idiots actually going out of their way to write these horrible letters, and GO OUT OF THEIR WAY to HARASS the people that brought us the GIFT... (becuase that's what it was, A GIFT....) of Derpy.

Every one of these anti-Derpy idiots should be extremly ashamed of their horrible behavior, and it's them that owe an apology... to Hasbro and to all of us, for making our community look like horrible, ungreatful, whiny, overreactionary, pathetic people who life to take an innocent cartoon show and drag it down into the mud like the scumballs they are.

I URGE everyone, to counteract these morons. PLEASE everyone write into Hasbro amd DEFEND Derpy, and take some action to fix this balance and let the people that make this show know that WE ARE REAL FANS, that we support them, that we're happy to see Derpy, that the majority of us LOVED it, want to see more, and NOT to listen to the elitist, ungreatful, people harassing Amy Keating Rogers, that the complaints are RUINING the fanbase, and that the whiners aren't REAL fans and shouldn't be counted as such.

Becuase right now, our fanbase is looking really bad right now. I don't care who you are, you do not step over this line, and start harassing the company that you should be thanking becuase they gave you a gift.

Until then, I still am really feeling betrayed and fragmented off from the fanbase by the actions of these disgusting people harassing Hasbro over nothing becuase they're reading ridiculous things into a cartoon and a fan-developed character that aren't there, just so they can stir-up the drama pot and create chaos and trouble where they should not be any.

      ReplyDelete
    114. "And a bad thing..."

I don't see how it's a bad thing for Hasbro not hear something that a group of 10 or 20 apparently obnoxiously loud "fans" got pissy over.

      ReplyDelete
    115. people need to get over themselves i have High Functioning Autism and Asbergers and i thought she was hilarious -_- too many sensitive people in this world need to lighten up

    116. It get's on my last nerves how seriously some people take this show.Hello this show is for little children, stop throwing a fit over it.

I don't know how people got Derpy being a stereotype of autistics out of a clumsy, goofy cartoon character.Anyone who has ever been around a mentally challenged person will know that they don't act remotely anything like Derpy.Derpy is just the classic slow and funny cartoon character.

Other cartoon characters like Goofy,Patric and Ed share her same personality(heck Derpy may even be smarter than some of them)and no one has ever said anything about them.

Derp isn't an offensive word,it's internet slang for doing something stupid or silly.Adding a Y to it just turns it into a cute name.It has nothing to do with mental disorders.

      ReplyDelete
    117. Derpy is most definately smarter then Ed lol

      ReplyDelete
    118. well, that should teach the writers to think twice before they acknowledge us again!

      ReplyDelete
    119. Now this entire debacle is just silly.

      ReplyDelete
    120. I've never liked the name "Derpy Hooves" as more than a nickname; I'd prefer her to be Ditzy Doo or even Bright Eyes. I also don't really like the clumsy, slightly "special" interpretation of the character.

Even still, the fact that Hasbro and the MLP team put a fan-made character into a tv show (not just as cameos anymore! She has a voice actress!) is AMAZING, and I'm going to enjoy the show regardless of how often Derpy shows up; I'm honestly not that fond of the CMC either, and you don't see me freaking out every time they show their annoying little faces. The creators are putting real effort into the show, and I will appreciate it until the very end.

      ReplyDelete
    121. @NightStarX

I really, really, really think that the vast majority of us love Derpy. In fact, I'm downright certain that there are hardly any people actually hating on her to Hasbro and the show's creators. The tsunami-sized response to the tiny number of complainers is what's probably making this seem worse than it is. Ah well, I agree that we should just give Studio B etc. our appreciation for their wonderful gesture and move on with our lives.

      ReplyDelete
    122. She isn't retarded she's just clumsy.

      ReplyDelete
    123. @MadDoctorD
Some people are throwing a fit about really few people actually being as loud as they can to complain about a tremendous and beautiful gift...

Personally, all I do is facepalm really hard at their reaction. I'll admit I am sort of guilty of the same thing, but it doesn't mean I can't facepalm about it.

But it's OK. We love this show, and I'm more than just happy to know how everything is turning out to be. Nothing major's happened, after all. We've just heard info that distressed us a bit, is all.

      ReplyDelete
    124. If I blew it out of proportion, and admittedly I did is only because I see WAY out of proportion that fans, a lot or not, sent angry mails and hate mails to Hasbro's workers, to the writer, to the voice actor.

It just feels wrong to be tainted by the shameful behavior of a group of people. If all the haters would have send mails and whatnot, this could have been a serious problem.

So I'm going to go ahead and ask to whoever may read this and is not content with Derpy's appearance:
It's alright. I understand, and many other do too. You DON'T have to like it, that's right. And you CAN speak your voice out loud, hell if you can. But one thing that you should NOT do, is to take the opportunity of your upsetting to be unpolite and downright offensive with this people. Think twice before sending an email that may hurt people. Constructive criticism is always appreciated, destructive behavior can only lead to hurt people and sad faces. And even if you were actually hurt by something in an episode, think that an eye per an eye also won't ever work.

      ReplyDelete
    125. So people are mad at Hasbro and Studio B for portraying Derpy as a klutz, but Family Guy goes out of their way in more than half their crap to make fun of mentally incapable people. They even have an entire episode how Peter is and they completely rip on people who are really like that. Let's not mention how they have a character about it too. Why are people not angry about this? Because I sure as hell would be if, I didn't know that most of the Family Guy writers don't know how to do anything anymore.

      ReplyDelete
    126. This is absolutely ridiculous.
The fact that people will get upset over the most simple things makes me absolutely want to vomit. How in the world do people like that survive? How can someone so thin-skinned possibly make it in this world? It's sickening to me.

      ReplyDelete
    127. What I'm getting from this seems to be that people are literally not allowed to dislike ANYTHING about Derpy, even if they just don't care for the sound of the name and aren't offended by her, otherwise they're not true fans. As someone who prefers "Ditzy Doo" for purely aesthetic reasons and otherwise thinks her to be an adorable and fun character, I don't feel very loved or tolerated here.

      ReplyDelete
    128. I didn't quite like the voice, especially since Tabitha thought it was supposed to be a boy....
But I'm still very glad derpy made a speaking appearance
Seeing how bon bon can change voices without explanation, I can honestly see them changing it easily.

      ReplyDelete
    129. @Sandman We really aren't saying that, most of us anyway. Everyone sort of flipped out at the idea of sending hate mail to anyone involved with the show, even though that didn't really happen anywhere near the scale that some thought. So, people felt a loud shush was in order. I just wish we would all thank the creators and go home.

      ReplyDelete
    130. Totally called it.

Everypony just needs to chillax and enjoy the show. We're still the nicest fanbase, no matter what some seem to think.

Time for a little bit of sarsaparilla and cupcakes.

(Also, this is a massive company we're talking about. They probably get way more crazy parent complaints who think there is satan hiding in the background then a few angry bronies.)

      ReplyDelete
    131. @Daniel G. I don't even get the whole hate mail thing; I was never offended by Derpy in the first place, and thought it was awesome that she got to talk and be a real character for even a few seconds...I just think the name sounds dopey, that's all. And yet I feel as if this causes people to lump me in with the self-righteous idiots who crusade against Derpy and think she's evil.

      ReplyDelete
    132. @Sandman

Well, I think that's not what people mean. There have always been different opinions about Derpy. It's specifically the sending of hate mail to the people making the show because of it that people here are saying is a bad thing. If you've never done that, then that doesn't include you.

      ReplyDelete
    133. I'm glad this didn't turn into anything big.

The bronies created Derpy, and as soon as she became canon, they tried to destroy her.

I simply don't get that at all, but I believe everything should be fine as long as the show's creators realize that Derpy's following is MUCH bigger than the group of her opponents.

I don't care about her name, her voice, or her personality. Derpy is best pony forever.

      ReplyDelete
    134. I'm gonna throw in a silver lining: as a fandom, we're humongous enough now that there are gonna be little tiffs over silly things like this. And that's fine. That's what all fandoms do.
In fact, we've been downright cheery compared to other fandoms, so good on you, bronies!
If you love Derpy, neat. If you don't, that's neat, too. No need to get at each other's throats.

      ReplyDelete
    135. The only thing that got big about this whole issue is everyone saying how much they loved Derpy, and wrote to the staff to say as much. This is another win for the bronies.

      ReplyDelete
    136. @Sandman On that end of things, I really don't see the big conflict. I prefer Derpy, you prefer Ditzy. I say great! People are naturally going to have differing opinions. The real nastiness has been toward (possibly imagined) people trolling Hasbro etc. Other than that, I think it's mostly just a big misunderstanding. And if there's anything I've seen rampant on the internet, it's definitely false assumptions and poor communication. That's why I think we should all forget any of this ever happened for the most part.

      ReplyDelete
    137. @StrangeNoise I said "There have always been different opinions about Derpy."

Just to illustrate the point, I was always in the camp that preferred to call her Ditzy too, for exactly the same reason - although of course Ditzy is also a pejorative, frankly; but it was one already used in canon, if not explicitly linked to her character.

      ReplyDelete
    138. @Daniel G. That's fine with me; thanks for being so civil about it. I just wanted to make sure because I've personally seen people jump down the throats of folks with my preference for not using the "canon" version. As for the hate mailers, I couldn't agree with you more; they ruin the fun for all of us, and I'm glad to see them go.

      ReplyDelete
    139. @Sandman

It's fine if you like to call her Ditzy Doo,there's nothing wrong with wanting to call her that. What bothers me is the people who complain about Derpy's name because they think the word derp is offensive to mentally challenged people when it has absolutely no connections to people with those disabilities.

      ReplyDelete
    140. I hate internet trolls who's sole purpose it to disrupt anything they don't like or agree with. If it turns out this was all faked *just* to rile people up, then I don't know what I'll do.

UGH... Ponies I love, it's the humans I have problems with.

      ReplyDelete
    141. I prefer Ditzy to Derpy, but I'm not going to start throwing my own shit at people because of it.

      ReplyDelete
    152. As someone against Derpy, can I just say that the only reason there wasn't a bigger storm of people who were offended is because they are scared of the vocal majority. You guys insult or try to degrade anybody with a negative opinion to her, we all get too scared to say anything contrary to popular opinion. Trust me, there are a lot more Derpy haters than you think, but they're hiding from you. Hopefully one day you'll all learn to listen to the rest of us, and actually think about what we're saying, instead of bagging on us instantly. That is all.

      ReplyDelete
    153. Man why are people hating on Derpy?
Did people hate on Ugine in Hey Arnold? Heck no, Why Derpy? Because she's on My Little Pony? Because of her Name? Because of her Origin's?

Whatever the case, Derpy is just supposed to be a silly Pony and anyone offended by it shouldn't.
I mean seriously, Why are you mad?

      ReplyDelete
    154. @ThatGlowingPony

I didn't even believe Derpy haters existed until you posted! Please understand, I only wish to open discussion on this, but... what exactly put you off when Derpy appeared in that episode?

      ReplyDelete
    155. @ThatGlowingPony

I don't really think the issue is that people didn't like Derpy period (there was plenty of that in the discussions), the issue was that people got so hung up about it that they sent DHX hate mail over it.

      ReplyDelete
    156. I just found out about this to. I gotta say I'm pissed. So shes a bit different. SO what! There isn't a perfect anyone out there. I think its great that they have a pony that people who are different can relate to. What do they think? Do they think that kids with differences don't watch this show? That they don't deserve a pony to relate to? How dare they!! How dare they assume anything about her! I hope they leave her in for every single season to come. Heck I hope she becomes a part of the mane cast. I doubt that there were any kids watching this thinking "hey they are making fun of me with her," no. I bet they were thinking. "Finally a show that shows a character that I can relate to. And that she gets along with everyone.

Heck the hub uses a another show on it that has a character that's a bit slow. But i haven't heard of any pound puppy hate mail. Because that dog has no physical difference. Poor Derpy has an eye condition and they just pick on her. I love her and I am glad shes staying.

      (Lol sorry for the rant.)

      ReplyDelete
    157. @S_MwELL SAID! I couldn't agree more with you.

      ReplyDelete
    158. @ThatGlowingPony

There is no problem with you not liking Derpy. I don't particularly like Pinkie Pie in more than very small doses. I do think you're wrong about there being this huge number who are afraid to say they don't like her or that they were 'offended' by her portrayal.

Trying to take a bunch of complaints to DHX for something they did entirely for the fan community is a really jerky thing to do. They didn't have to do that for us. It took significant work to animate and get a voice worked up for her. While there have been instances of fan service in live shows that I've seen. I don't think I can recall there ever being such a blatant one in an animated show.

We ought to make sure they realize how much that meant regardless of whether you necessarily cared for Derpy or not. Fortunately, it looks like the proper message got through.

      ReplyDelete
    159. The animation crew and writers does not really need this morality flinging going on. Every cartoon has their share of wacky, silly characters. And Derpy even has a job (or several) and she's not mocked for it. She's judged as fairly as anyone who would make a mistake.

I'm EXTREMELY disappointed of fellow bronies (or should I even call them bronies anymore for griefing the creators? Maybe not) who would go out of their way with this overblown outrage. People digging up dirt from a cartoon mostly made for whole families... Damn. What a damn shame. People should derive enjoyment and leave it at that. If you guys want to contribute to society and fling around your duty for morality, do that in some disability calling center or charity. Pushing all this level of seriousness towards people who provide entertainment for us is the height of arrogance.

      ReplyDelete
    160. I like her. She's as thick as a plank and clueless, which is endearing, I just wish they'd gone with Ditzy as her name, that's all.

      ReplyDelete
    161. if anyone hears back from Apple about this, let us know.

      ReplyDelete
    162. One of two things I can't understand is why it's seen as perfectly fine to run a 24 hour blog about ponies, make facebook groups, hold mini-conventions, draw fan-art about the show, make music, etc, all of which takes days and weeks and months.

But if someone doesn't agree with the portrayal of a handicapped pony and sends ONE letter, it's suddenly a 'hate-mail' (without anyone else ever having read it) and the person's opinion is automatically discredited because "they a hater, a troll, and isn't fit to live, etc..."

I love the show, and alot of what this community has done, but alot of this fandom is turning into damn cultists that think they're making characters, running the show, and need to purge anyone that doesn't agree with the hive mind.

      ReplyDelete
