    1. hmm... These are some very valid concerns, especially the idea of switching to the Outside.

Except for jumping onto Celestia's back - that would have been a suicide.

And yes, death is fully reversible - it is quite possible that they don't even have to use Outside resources for that. For all we know Dash died in Equestria, so her death might be retconned when the old reality rules are restored.

But as you probably realise, this story is extremely difficul to write, exactly because of other worlds. Where everything is possible, there is no plot. A small slip on the side of the author can make the whole story completely nonsensical, like a world-hopping race of arms culminating in someone bringing in Guren Leggan.

    2. It was One Dimensional Thinking yes. But I don't know if it qualifies as an idiot ball - I would have made the same mistake. We are used to moving foreward, backward, left or right, possibly up if you can fly. It takes some using to the idea that you can also go purple.

Being used to dealing with normalcy is a big part of it. Especially when Harry's usually making those kinds of decision under extreme stress/time pressure. There's a huge difference between making decisions when you've got time to sit back calmly and think about things for several hours, and having to do it all in the heat of the moment.

    4. Oh, before you come up with this one - purposefully getting captured and banished to meet Twilight, and then leaving through the Outside would not work. That place is warded to hold magical creatures of Luna's caliber and Pinky can only ignore magical wards when it is funny.

In normal circumstances however, she can enter Outside regardless of comedy factors. Chengar will have a hard time writing himself out of this one. (If it was a blunder on the characters' part, no rousing speech is going to get them moving again once they realise it). As for us, we can only wait.

    5. Just read Chapter 15:

      ...You're kidding. You're kidding, RIGHT?

      ...Right?

      *sob*

Well, at least there's still "Never Found the Body" to count on.

Chapter 16 does have a fair bit of Harry saying "If only I'd done X, Rainbow might still be here." The guy does tend to blame himself when things go wrong.

    7. So, odds that Pinkie Pie and/or Fluttershy are going to either use the powers of CHIM (that is, console commands) to spawn a new copy of Rainbow Dash, or that they will Dragonbreak and reset time (reloading the the game)? Both of those are canonical abilities possessed by the Hero of the Elder Scrolls games (and Pinkie Pie seemed to have access to the Console, given her Partillery-spawning hijinks on the Throat of the World), and Fluttershy still has her Thu'um, so it follows that she'd have all of the other powers an Aedric Hero possesses.

Not going to argue the finer points in detail, and like I said elsewhere the actions were essentially IC.

The idiot ball I was referring to was simply that when you have a huge variety of options, picking the one that completely screws the universe over over any that actually have a chance of not doing so is idiotic. Dash might be a hothead and would do anything for her friends, but there is a difference between sacrificing yourself to save other and sacrificing yourself needlessly, condemning an entire universe to suffering and ruin (including your friends you were "saving") with your death, since you were an essential part needed to save it.

    9. I'm not complaining about "bad end" I'm complaining about Dash being retarded.

      ReplyDelete
    10. Ok, I don't know what Harry will do but I know what I would have done.

1 As he mentioned in his internal monologue, any death is reversible as long as they win. They must be made aware of it to regain the fighting spirit.
2 Bounce Pinky's trick back at her by playing along with her current madness - use her dolly as a sock puppet to hijack her monologue and make her aware both of point one and of her own capabilities in the matter. Reminding her that she can violate causality is risky but worth a shot and getting her back to what passes for senses is one of the most important things now.

    11. Also, thank you for not doing the "you are the new Rainbow Dash" joke.

    12. @Chengar Qordath *sighs* There is no choice now... I didn't want to do this... *goes back in time to take advatage of a single loophole, and gains absolute power*

DISCORD! You shall now be destroyed. I am more powerful than any being in the multiverse. As established, all fictional universes are 'real', so I have gone back in time and established myself as a character created by Leonard Nimoy and John de Lancie in their "Alien Voices" onstage dialog. The entity is more powerful than all the Q continuum combined. I... AM... P!!!

And you are toast. I mean that literally. *turns Discord into toast and eats him* DATS WASSUP!!

(If yer gonna god-mode, why hold yourself back? Go for the EXTREME!!)

    13. I had a brief vision of immortal Dash brought back via edo tensei. Then I realised none of the quasi-humanoid forms "legal" in Equestria has enough fingers to perform the right seals ;P

      ReplyDelete
    14. Aand... once again he forgot he can use the Outside... At least they might be able to recruit Shining. Good thing he wasn't smart enough to hold them in the ball and call Celestia.

      ReplyDelete
    15. @Braininthejar
When did he forget? It's already been established that you can't pop to the Outside through magical barriers/containment spells.

      ReplyDelete
    16. If you say so. What I really want to know is how Derpy survived that venom.

      ReplyDelete
    17. Also... is "The Incridibly Dense Mind of Rainbow Dash" a part of the same universe? I mean by logic it is, what I want to kow if it is the "canon" verse or one of the surrounding fanficverses.

      ReplyDelete
    18. @Braininthejar
I'd say "The Incredibly Dense Mind of Rainbow Dash" is in separate fanficverse. After all, that story takes place more than halfway into Season 2, and the MLD-verse version of Equestria is in the process of getting turned upside down.

Heck, "Lesson Zero" wouldn't happen in any recognizable form, and the plot of "Luna Eclipsed" wouldn't happen at all. Going on down the line, there are ton of other things that would change, not to mention everything that's happened to Rainbow Dash.

      ReplyDelete
    19. @Braininthejar
As for Derpy ... you'll find out when Chapter 18 gets posted.

      ReplyDelete
    20. I wonder if the elements from one of the fanficverses would work for the canon mane six - they would probably be much easier to "borrow". Of course playing with that could end with freeing ANOTHER Discord ;P

      ReplyDelete
    21. @Braininthejar Derpy has the power of derp. Against such power, no venom can be effective. As South Park demonstrated, Mr. Derp could shoot huimself point blank in the head and survive thanks to the power of derp. Discord knows not what he faces in the Wall-Eyed One.

    22. Just read Chapter 18.

'"If she has a weakness, she never saw fit to inform me of it," Shining Armor admitted.'

It's easy: summon the Power of Love, hook it up to Queen Chrysalis, and just let her go to town.

      '"I already figured it out."'

So did I! And the good news is that Rainbow Dash is not dead! EEheeheeheehee! :D

    23. I have an idea for how to get rid of the coins. The demons have no friendship - they don't develop the kind of connections that Harry used to find the ponies. That means, if they are lost in the Outside, Nick won't be able to track them down. Harry just needs to find some SF story where everybody died at the end, go there and drop the coins somewhere in the wasteland.

Also, taking down a deamon with a hairdressing spell was awesome.

      ReplyDelete
    24. @Braininthejar That or drop them off in the Warhammer 40K world. Heck, they'd probably count as good guys there.

      ReplyDelete
    25. No. Thatt's exactly what he mustn't do. The laws of the story, remember? The laws of WH40000 stories demand that abandoned cursed artifacts be discovered by some idiots. Within a week, the nickleheads would be back, and with some new friends. Rains of chocolate milk are bad enough - we don't need rains of fire and blood.

      ReplyDelete
    26. Have to agree with Brain. Taking the coins to a setting a uber-Grimdark as 40k is wouldn't end well.

      ReplyDelete
    27. Which makes me think. Why did Nick choose MLP of all the possible settings? There are so many powerful demonic entities in fiction that would be less of a wild card than Discord... And how did he come to be? He didn't break free until after Harry arrived. Does that mean the episode aired while Harry was in Equestria? That means Nick must have had access to the authors, enough to know what they were planning (but not enough to control them - otherwise he would have designed D to be more suitable for his needs)

      ReplyDelete
    28. @Braininthejar Drop them in My Little Pony 3.5.

It's sickeningly sacchrine with no powerful entities worth speaking of.

Or maybe the Teletubbie universe. That would be worse than hell. >:D

      ReplyDelete
    29. Soo... it all worked out. And Trixie proved worthy of praise for once - even if her ego made her ignore the fear for a moment, she was taking an enormous risk.

Coming back to barriers - please remind me because I forgot. You said you can't go in and out of warded places through the Outside. The team couldn't get out of force bubble. But in Forever, Pinky got into Harry's home with no problems?

      ReplyDelete
    30. Just read Chapter 19.

      My reaction: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs

    31. @Braininthejar
Well, Pinkie's Reality-Warping powers only let her ignore the laws of physics/magic/causality/etc when it's funny. That, and even when she can break the normal rules it's only her that can break them.

      ReplyDelete
    32. You ended CH 20 in THAT manner?! You fiend!

      ReplyDelete
    33. Oh hell... fanfiction Ponyverses are melding. Every dimension is now utterly F'd.

      ReplyDelete
    34. What is the deal with ponies accepting the coins or not? If they didn't have true free will back then, it shouldn't be relevant whether they accepted them or not.?

      ReplyDelete
    35. @Braininthejar
Sure, Twilight could've been brainwashed into taking a coin like the others. But just doing that wouldn't be nearly as much fun for Discord as breaking Twilight to the point of turning evil voluntarily.

      ReplyDelete
    36. Anyway, what Harry did to Twilight will bite him in the ass... I have read other fics, I know what Twilight is like when she gets obsessed with revenge... he should at least give her some self-diagnosis pointers so she knows when to stop.

      ReplyDelete
    37. So, that last chapter -- Dissey and Nicodemus went to Earth and made the 'Cupcakes" episode? Man but that must have been one bizarre week in the fandom. "The heck? What's next, Sweet Apple Massacre?"

And what happened to poor Twilight -- even by Denarian standards, that was evil. I am REALLY looking forward to Nicky and Dissey getting their comeuppance.

      ReplyDelete
    38. Why is this not a 12-star?!?! The ponies have souls now! Yay!

And Discord's messing with the script of OUR SHOW!!! He put "Cupcakes" into OUR PONY!!!

Bronies, time to kick some draconequus ass! *leads the charge!* FOR THE HERD!!!

      ReplyDelete
    39. What Harry should have done was make her realise how lucky she was. She got it easiest of all her friends - she didn't take the coin. Fluttershy using a shout proves that they do remember - everypony will have to live the rest of their lives knowing what they have done while she gets to play an innocent victim.

"Other people have suffered more than you" is rarely a very effective way of dealing with depression/PTSD.

      ReplyDelete
    41. It did work for Rarity and Alpplejack. They are doing fine so far.

      ReplyDelete
    42. Upside-down buildings and chocolate rain again? For a supposed spirit of chaos, Discord lacks creativity. Do you think He would get angry if someone told him that?

Also, I think you accidentally used a trope name instead of actual name. (it should be Lecter. Or did you do it on purpose?)

      ReplyDelete
    43. That last chapter is hilarious. Harry and the Mane Six (and Derpy) finally reach Earth! Yes!

Though there probably won't be any time for it, I'd love to see the girls visit Michael's house. His kids would be delighted. And I'd love to see how Michael himself and his wife would deal with the invasion of the pretty pastel ponies.

I am SO looking forward to the next chapter!

    44. I need more of this... and I do believe I have found a weakness in Discord they can exploit. They need to free a certain someone we all know and love... that's all I'm saying. ;3
