• Story: The Art of the Dress' or 'Expectations

    [Dark]

    Author: NTSTS
    Description: Rarity finds herself especially intrigued by the dresses of Ponyville's newest dressmaker. Struggling under the burden of her own adoration she finds herself trapped within an existential crisis. In this nihilistic twilight, she clings onto the last of her creative sanity, trying to pierce through the mysterium that is the new dressmaker's identity. A story that deals with what it is to be and, subsequently, what it is to not be in the world of creativity.

    2. Nihilism...

      Is this just a contest to see who can make the most depressing Pony story now?

      Nihilism is the belief in which a sentient creature will live without any emotion. No fear, no joy, no anger, and no sorrow.

    5. This is the winner from the Rarity Write-off last month, and it's quite an excellent fic.

    6. Stop screwing with the best pony, damnit...

    7. @Shadow Heart I'd say that idea is fairly depressing.

    8. I don't think this will be my thing, i'm not going to read or rate it but I have to say, that image is...haunting.

      It works and also doesn't. You won't experience emotional pain, but also can't enjoy happiness. It is null.

      @nifboy

      The fic should prove a good read then.

      @Incorporatedstates

      We all know that Celestia is best pony. Pinkie is 2nd best pony. Rarity is 3rd to last. The only ponies worse than her are 2nd to last Twist, and last place pony Ponyta. She is a terribla pony, and I hate her.

    10. @Everypony

      Shadow Heart cahnged his mind. Pinkie Pie is best pony cause I. . . Er I mean she is super terrifically fun, and okuhfdswa

      Sorry folks, Pinkie busted throught the 4th wall, so I had to send her back and repair it.

      @Celestia

      I was trying to say you are best pony. There.

    11. Ah crap, this just screams "depressing, soul-crushing" fiction.

      I'll wait for the first few comments to see if I read.

    12. Huh, I really liked this story and how it illustrates just how difficult any creative process can be and how much it sucks when all of your inspiration escapes you. You definitely did a great job showing each step of her depression and the moral at the end of the story made it all make sense.

      Everypony, banish your doubts, this isn't soul-crushingly sad.

    13. Note that the story is tagged as 'dark' but not 'sad'. I don't think it's overly depressing, in any case.

    14. When I get my to-do list out of the way, I'll definitely be taking a look.

    15. So much for love and tolerance. This after Rarity gets the best episode so far. Rarity is a wonderful pony. There's nothing about any of the characters, mane or background, that would cause me to hate him or her. Except Blueblood.

    16. That image reminds me of Lil' miss Rarity... Aaaagghhh make it GO AWAY!!
      But maybe I will give it a read.

    17. And now I am saddened by the general feeling that people have of this being a negative story, aimed at Rarity, rather than an excellent bit of psychological prose.

      Read it before you denounce it, please.

    19. This is a phenomenal read, one of the best I've ever seen. NTSTS is a literary force to be reckoned with (have I said that before?), and this is the story which proved it to me.

      Admittedly, I have a thing not just for stories that are well-written, but for stories about people losing their minds that are well-written. If you can handle a little mindfuckery, you WILL find this memorable.

    21. Ooook...
      ''Nihilism'', the most annoying (and stupid, honestly) concept ever created... coupled with 'Grimdark' (it's in the labels) ?
      ...how lovely. *cough*

    22. Most excellent! It's exceeded all my ... hm. It's wonderful, yes indeed.
