EA Pony Reference

I was going to toss this into the currently-in-progress roundup, but then I realized how substantial it actually is. It isn't often a major company actually allows a straight up reference like this in something that a huge amount of people will probably make use of, especially a group like EA! I've always seen them as primarily conservative.  It's good to see them bustin some pony out.

I guess they have some Rainbow Dash fans over there!

You can find this specific page here!

Ponies: It's in the game!

One step closer to a pony game

Jelfes said...

I wonder if the person who put that there has been looking for someone to notice that.

John said...

Funny thing is that it's actually right - the search bar is no at least 20% cooler. Maybe even more.

Quite a funny little bit, actually. Nice to see some representation from EA - maybe this'll force Valve's hand :O

Ummm... Seth, I believe one can be conservative and still like ponies. :D

Kelarik said...

Pretty cool, but it still doesn't make up for Origin... or supporting SOPA.

Joystik said...

dislikes EA but loves ponies. so conflicted...

Bombedrumbum said...

They helped make one of my favorite games- Ty the Tasmanian Tiger. Therefore, I like them if not just for that and ponies. Other than that, I am indifferent to EA

Darkdrium said...

Too bad the rest of EA seems to be pushing to represent the devil again. You will surely get the Karkland.

To be fair to them though the one time I had to use their CS they exceeded my expectations, but that was two years ago.

Adrian Brony said...

now if only they could do the same for their customer support.

Shrpsho0ter said...

Yay, I submitted this :D
Nice to see a big a company as EA sneaking this in there

Unknown said...

I still hate you EA, supporting SOPA is inexcusable.

Ben Gibson said...

hey conservatives can be bronies! I am very conservative but I am also VERY BRONY

ITYRAR said...

Still not liking them until they release Mirror's Edge 2.

Bombedrumbum said...

For some reason, when I.opened the page, it gave me the programming thingy words behind it. I instantly noticed this:

<category term='Phoe Gawking'/

Pave said...

While many times I need to facepalm some things EA and their studio keeps goofing off, their still pretty cool in overall. And this shows they can still pull off decent & funny things too.

Yeah, I'm one those quite happy customers of EA, in case you wonder.

Good thing they have improved the customer service system. That's indeed something to be 20-percent more happy about.

Disable said...

On the one hoof, SOPA and Origin...
But on the other hoof, Henry Hatsworth! And now this!

Cyanide said...

I think Seth meant conservative in the "big, staid and stuffy company" sense, not in the political sense. And, yeah, SOPA support is completely inexcusable.

EA x SOPA

EA makes pony reference

CONFLICTING EMOTIONS!!!11

Schneeraubtier said...

Screw EA, this makes up for nothing. NOTHING!!!!

Octavia said...

Hah, that's awesome. I think this makes EA at least... you guessed it, 20% cooler.

And they support SOPA? Eh... ah well. Still cool. lol

Bronyhub said...

Ugh, it still doesn't make me like EA or their
crappy Origin service, but I still have to give
them props for the awesome pony reference!

Ben Gibson said...

@Octavia yeah... they're proponents for SOPA D:

Eversor Mundius said...

According to SOPA, they stole that phrase and must be shut down

Maggotpulse said...

My my my... WE REALLY ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD!

Jelfes said...

@Bombedrumbum I'm not sure what you saw, then, because a quick Ctrl+F for, "Phoe" brings up nothing in the page source HTML. Must have been something very odd.

Ficksitup said...

Very... Conservative..?

...Seth, what -exactly- do you mean by that..? :/

wackypony said...

With the exception of ME3, i won't be buying any EA products till they stop shoving Origin down everyone's throat.

Mr Mailbox said...

@Octavia 120% of 0 = 0

People still buy things off EA?

Jay6 said...

Not all EA employees are in support of SOPA, but... if you're in support of ponies and SOPA, there's a problem with that.

Celestia said...

EA just gained a few points in my book, they're still several thousand in the negative for what they did to command and conquer and all this origin fiasco though.

At least theres a brony or two somewhere in EA.

BakedBad said...

Sorry EA, I still have no respect for you.

Zephyr Flash said...

Bloody EA haters. They make some damn good games; some damn bad ones too, but that's inevitable.

...I may be a little biased though, as I DO live 10mins walk from where they make the Burnout series.

Celestia said...

@Zephyr Flash

For the most part I hate the company and not the games.

Mike said...

@Ben Gibson

I'm sure Seth's talking about stereotypical conservatives.

And this is why I hate stereotypes: they do nothing but get everyone confused, and they become outdated very quickly.

A Polish Ginger said...

EA you try to be cool, but your not. Now if STEAM or VALVE had that :)

Meep said...

NOOOOOO!!!!!!

WHy must it be Eeeeee effing Aaaaaaaaayyyyyy!!!

Yes they make good games but their Origin as a whole...suks patooty =/

Infinion said...

excellent, influence is spreading as planned

I'm Gabe newell and my favourite pony is Pinkie Pie.

I actually searched to see if it had been done and there's a Gabe commenting on winter wrap up.

Jelfes said...

To all of you wondering what Seth meant by saying he thought that they're mostly conservative; I'm pretty sure he was doing a direct pointer to Fox. Either way, I wouldn't care. Life is just a lot easier when you stop caring what others think of you(that doesn't mean you have to be a jerk or anything, just relax).

Ten said...

EA trying to get Brony points. Still cool that they did it though.

Gamerlord said...

@wackypony
Activision publishes MW3, EA releases Battlefield 3.

Harwick said...

A conservative company is one that sticks to the tried and true, old ways of doing things, is adverse to trying risky strategies or following the latest fads or styles. They're not likely to be seen as the true innovators of new ideas but also not likely to be a flash-in-the-pan in the business world.

Not everything is political...

CityFlyer502 said...

Maybe they don't stand behind the same ideas I do, but this is just awesome. 20% cooler? Only one cartoon gave rise to that phrase...and I'm posting a comment while it's on? See you later. I'm missing the show!!!!

chronicfc said...

When he says "conservative" he means "safe", i.e. not putting in jokes into Help Pages that only a few will understand

S008 said...

The guy working at EA who wrote this can be a nice person - that, however, doesn't affect how I view EA.

ryan7251 said...

Sorry EA but i still don't like how you do things.

GuerreroPerdido said...

Don't understand the hate. You guys act as if people must have your blessings before making a reference.

While you guys are moaning. I'm enjoying BF3.

Robert Patterson was accepted into the herd as a push, but I highly doubt anyone is going to start liking EA just because of this.

Shadow Heart said...

Well played EA.

Well played. . .

Supreme Commander of Brony Mountain said...

Let's see... Has few games worth buying on their rip-off of Steam
The only games they actually make are sports the rest they just publish for other companies, ie Dice
So eenope, still dislike EA as a whole. But they'll still be taking my money thanks to TOR

Michael Butcher said...

Until they stop being money-grubbing dicks, I won't support them >.>

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that 'conservative' is used here in the more general sense of 'opposed to change' and not to indicate the political alignment.

@Hope(N Forever)

I certainly hope not. I don't buy EA games.

And for everyone asking why EA gets bad press, here are the reasons:

A. Forum bans = game bans: saying something on an EA-owned message board that earns you a forum ban also earns you a ban from playing your games tied to your EA account. Basically, this means that you can't say anything to EA, or papa EA will put you on restriction. This is due to an account issue that EA is meaning to fix, but has yet to.

B. Created online pass scheme (Project $10): "Wah Wah! Used games are killing us! It's like piracy!" EA was the first publisher to cut off part of a game, give the access keys to new buyers only, and forced used buyers to pay $10 for keys to the locked content. It's always the MP mode now for EA games (hence "Online Pass"). Other publishers have jumped on the online pass bandwagon while others are cutting single-player content and forcing used-game buyers to buy a pass to access it (Ex: Rage and Batman: AC).

C. Origin's problems: While it's good for Steam to have some competition out there especially from a big name, EA is not doing it properly with Origin. One problem is the infamous "spyware" clause in Origin's EULA (which they reworded). Another is the class-action lawsuit right wavier (which you can gain back with a simple and quick opt-out letter). Finally, EA can terminate "ownership" of your origin game two years after you bought it (I quote the word ownership because you don't own many games you get anymore. You just own licenses. This not not restricted to EA).

D: They support SOPA: Enough said.

And this is why EA is unpopular, and I wouldn't buy from EA even if they ponified Origin or something similar. It won't excuse them from their terrible business practices.

Mac3030 said...

Well thats awesome of them, but it took two hours for their support to tell me that I can't download Back to Karkand because basically they just want to be dbags.

Paul said...

Actually, EA likely doesn't have a choice when it comes to supporting SOPA. They are responsible to their shareholders, and that means they have to support various causes that many of the individuals in the company don't agree with (but the board and shareholders think is in the company's best interest). Do note that if they resemble other donors in the entertainment industry, they would have supported and contributed to Democratic candidates.

I sometimes wonder if the old-time hacks in Washington don't just flip a coin and say: OK this week, we the (insert party here) will do this, and you guys do that.

BTW, I'm a Canadian Conservative. And although I would not say bronydom is the be all and end all of my existence, I do like the fandom.

Senior Waffles said...

Um, no EA. EA supports SOPA, plain and simple. They "want" or "have" to support SOPA, OK. t(-_-(t you EA.

Genesis890 said...

Am I the only one who thinks it's possible that it is not a MLP reference. I mean, what if it is just 20% cooler? I mean coincidences do happen.

SatRock said...

Maybe it's just a coincidence, but still.
Ponys & Battlefield!? TO MUCH EPIC!

James Corck said...

I think we can consider EA conservative, but they allow their associates to be quite liberal.

Ever played Dragon Age 2?

Scribejay said...

No, you don't understand. The EA help center got a new fan and the little broom closet they're confined to on the grand EA campus is literally 20% cooler now.

Moleman77 said...

well, fancy pants is EA related, they probably searched it and found ponies, lol

enlightened spirit said...

EA supports SOPA.Even though this is a pony reference,EA are still dickheads

Dantes_Grill said...

i rather call their customer support again then sit and rage over their shitty website >=(

Soeroah said...

@Genesis890

Nah. Coincidences do happen, and it's folly to assume everything's a reference.

It's just amusing either way, and if it is a coincidence it's especially amusing, given that a publically visible website independently came up with a similar quote to a show that is currently spreading over the world and changing people's perceptions on kid's shows at this particular point in time.

Mattwo said...

I guess EA is trying to make up for their mistakes I keep hearing about on screwattack's hard news.

But they most likely support SOPA and that's unforgivable.
