For those that haven't been following the new dubs from Brazil, it sounds like Rainbow Dash ended up a male. Spitfire was one thing, but this is a little scary.

I don't really care. It just shows that the creators are adjusting the show for a specific audience on a specific character, and at that are trying to show that... things wouldn't be all that different (if we ignore shipping fics) if some of the characters were a different gender.
Actually, I am kind of astonished that people care what gender the characters are.
Sounds pretty much genderless to me, like extreme tomboyish. If nobody had mentioned it was a male voice, I wouldn't have picked it up necesarrily. Although, Pinkie Pie DID call Rainbow Dash a "he" in the latest episode, so who knows? What is it with genders and Rainbow Dash..

This voice is sure bad, but it could be female voice, one big ugly female, witch mustache :) Still, nothing beats polish Spitfire, any polish Spitfire ;)
I enphasize what the other BRonies said: she is NOT a colt. They just exaggerated the "agressiveness" in her dubbing, but they refer to her as a "she" all the time.
I think an update is in order to clarify that issue.
As an end to this, Lauren Faust made Rainbow Dash a female. Now if another country has an odd voice over for a character, it doesn't mean really much. So end of discussion.
You guys do know that the words "colt" and "filly" refer to YOUNG horses. The school kid ponies are colts and fillies...the regular adult ponies aren't.
@Travis Smith what post? I actually did an audio analysis of the sample, checking for the silibant in "she" but I couldn't find it, but if somebody has something substantial pointing in the other direction (apart from the obvious, that it's probably just a mistake), I'd love to see it :-)
I am Brazilian, and I admit, even here, the voice acting was VERY VERY strange, I prefer the English dub, it seems much more natural, I think it'll be strange when it launches on TV, I think I will continue to see on the web

As far as the voice goes, it sounds androgynous to me. If it is a guy voicing her, he's doing a pretty good job. (And, I might point out, Spike is voiced by a woman so it's not like it lacks precedent.)

I already know about it. and that improves the theory about her being gay/lesbian. To be honest, i don`t like brazilian translations and dubs because of this, they don`t match a voice for character's personality. And yes, the voice actress IS a woman. She just happens to be capable of achieving a deep voice (wich allowed her to be the voice of the famous male character "Cebolinha" or... Jimmy Five as you call it on the US... on Monica's Gaang). They probably asked her for a deeper voice for Rainbow Dash, even though she remains a female in the show.

It ain't the first time they screw up when choosing the voices for an animated series. I was expecting this to happen, to be honest. Anyway, I wasn't planning on watching the portuguese dubbed version...

To me, her gender had been somewhat ambiguous all thought-out the first season of the original dub. If the Brazilians really cast a boy to be her voice actor, then they are just being accurate to the original material.
On a silly note: I Lol'd (and a second lol @ 'dashie ships are now straight but only in Brazil'), first epp I thought RD was male too and had to go back and pay close attention to the pronouns to realize my mistake...
On a serious note: different cultures have different voices, while I'm not familiar with Portuguese specifically, I've noticed that most Hispanic/Latino voices sound deeper over-all than most american voices, imo.
Also... while not the case this time, its not uncommon for gender flips due to prudishness, though normally it's reserved for TG/gay males becoming females when they get dub'd into English...
I think some people get too over-worked about the dub that they sometimes don't even realize it's not really the VA's fault.
I love our VAs. They are miracle workers, long veterans on their craft and they do their very best to plow through the shitty script they receive from our editors and "dubbing rules". It's not their fault that they speak in "Dubladês", as we like to call it. They are doing what they can with the crap people throw at them! But the crap is so stinky that... Well... Yeah.
They do one hell of a good job, but the limitations they get wounds their job and our fame as a bad dubbing country. It makes me really sad.
Oh, and I watched Steven Magnet from our dub and... I'm sorry, but personally, I thought it was hilarious. He IS supposed to be extremely flamboyant, and that's exactly what they did with him! Seriously, am I the only one who thought he sounded awesome?
In almost every Latin-language-dubbed cartoon I've seen, female voices and male children voices seem to go up an octave or two, and adult male voices get seriously low. I find it amusing- and I'd probably die of laughter if I saw Flutterguy cast in a Spanish voiceover.
I think it sounded weird at first, but it seemed to sound more girly toward the end? I don't think it matters much, I mean there a lot of cartoons where the first episode's voices are terrible but get better as it goes along.
Plus, it's not like they actually made her a guy. She is still a girl, no need to freak out :)

It's constantly calling Rainbow Dash male. It's all "He", "His", etc. And I've seen it explained somewhere that he's a transgendered colt to represent people of alternative gender identities. Yes, he has eyelashes, but his eyes are the simplest and least girly of the mane 6, and his mane and tail are as well...he's a colt...but he identifies as a filly.

To clarify, some dubs can be better. But not the pony one, now i know that i should never see this show on TV here, shame i was excited about it.

To me, her gender had been somewhat ambiguous all thought-out the first season of the original dub. If the Brazilians really cast a boy to be her voice actor, then they are just being accurate to the original material.

On a silly note: I Lol'd (and a second lol @ 'dashie ships are now straight but only in Brazil'), first epp I thought RD was male too and had to go back and pay close attention to the pronouns to realize my mistake...
On a serious note: different cultures have different voices, while I'm not familiar with Portuguese specifically, I've noticed that most Hispanic/Latino voices sound deeper over-all than most american voices, imo.
Also... while not the case this time, its not uncommon for gender flips due to prudishness, though normally it's reserved for TG/gay males becoming females when they get dub'd into English...

I think some people get too over-worked about the dub that they sometimes don't even realize it's not really the VA's fault.
I love our VAs. They are miracle workers, long veterans on their craft and they do their very best to plow through the shitty script they receive from our editors and "dubbing rules". It's not their fault that they speak in "Dubladês", as we like to call it. They are doing what they can with the crap people throw at them! But the crap is so stinky that... Well... Yeah.
They do one hell of a good job, but the limitations they get wounds their job and our fame as a bad dubbing country. It makes me really sad.
Oh, and I watched Steven Magnet from our dub and... I'm sorry, but personally, I thought it was hilarious. He IS supposed to be extremely flamboyant, and that's exactly what they did with him! Seriously, am I the only one who thought he sounded awesome?

In almost every Latin-language-dubbed cartoon I've seen, female voices and male children voices seem to go up an octave or two, and adult male voices get seriously low. I find it amusing- and I'd probably die of laughter if I saw Flutterguy cast in a Spanish voiceover.

I think it sounded weird at first, but it seemed to sound more girly toward the end? I don't think it matters much, I mean there a lot of cartoons where the first episode's voices are terrible but get better as it goes along.
Plus, it's not like they actually made her a guy. She is still a girl, no need to freak out :)

Um....Rainbow Dash is a Colt in America too. And I quote, off the info section for a MLP episode on On Demand in Massachusetts. "Rainbow Dash and his friends..." "Rainbow Dash must learn his..."
It's constantly calling Rainbow Dash male. It's all "He", "His", etc. And I've seen it explained somewhere that he's a transgendered colt to represent people of alternative gender identities. Yes, he has eyelashes, but his eyes are the simplest and least girly of the mane 6, and his mane and tail are as well...he's a colt...but he identifies as a filly.
