Comissions to Pay For Cancer Treatment

A brony/Filly over on Devaint Art is doing commissions for really cheap to try to pay for lawyer bills and cancer treatment.  If you want to help out, hit up the deviant art page here for information on pricing, as well as the whole story.

    Vokle.com Babble with Bronies Event

    Have some copy paste:
I am hosting an event on Vokle.com this Saturday, November 19th, at 4:00 pm Eastern Standard Time (3:00 CST) (1600/1500c) for my new series Babbling with Bronies.

Babbling with Bronies is my little series designed for just that, gathering bronies and pegasis (yes, I like to distinguish) to talk about news, art, the show, characters, and so forth. If it involves the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, we might just talk about it. We might even watch and episode for poops and giggles in future events.

All that is needed for one to attend this event is to sign up with a Vokle account (it's free and easy). After they have signed up, they just need to find my event, and join in. They participate with in-event texts, but if they have a microphone and/or camera, the participants can participate using those as well. I plan on running this even for an hour, but if I get a good audience, I will stretch it out.

If there are any questions from anyone regarding this event, have them send me an email to this address ( theobserver6713@yahoo.com ).
    Check it out here

    3. @That Australian Guy Judging by your comment, I don't think you can exactly mock me for that... =P

    4. According to the toy line, Rainbow Dash likes fashion and Twilight Sparkle is all about make-overs.

What, is Rarity going to have a sports pack and speak and spell toy?

Oh well, she DOES dress in style...

    5. @DulTek I was mocking my own bad pun

    7. Ah, well, guess you can post the DVD release here too. Can't hurt just in case anyone somehow missed the post right under this one. lol

Hmm, Rainmeter. Don't have it. I use Yahoo widgets. Though they don't have pony themes... well, maybe by now they do, I haven't honestly looked lately. lol But this makes me want to try Rainmeter.

Brony hatred survey. Eh, well, it's not hard to understand why most people automatically dislike or make fun of Bronies and this community. A lot of people think it's out of place or odd. Best you can do is attempt to explain the community, show and why you like it so much to them. If they still don't understand or try getting under your skin, just let it go or ignore them. That is pretty much your best bet. Also keep in mind there are many people, especially online, who are just looking for a fight or someone to hate. So it's not going to work on everyone obviously. lol

And the Skyrim mods keep rolling in... I'm guessing this game is going to have as many or more mods than games like TF2 and them before long.

Poor Twilight. Having to lug that lazy Italian plumber Mario around all day. :(

Oh my goodness. My heart really aches for that Brony artist who's having lawyer problems because of cancer treatment. Isn't it bad enough to have any type of cancer in the first place? But then to have to deal with pricks like that who's only concern is making money as fast as they can. Jerk lawyers I tell ya. No hearts at all. I can understand them pursuing payment. But it sounds like she was already slowly paying them off as it was. They're acting like she was never going to pay the bill off. I'm a poor artist myself, but I'll take a browse of her works. She looks to be a very talented artist too.

Looks like the Carousel Boutique toy is pretty popular among young girls. Well... go figure, right? lol Com'on Carousel Boutique toy, win that thing!

That Rainbow Dash fashion toy... so... busy. lol Rainbow Dash has never, ever, ever... dressed in so many much styles... all at once as well mind you, before. :P

      ReplyDelete
    8. That cancer commissions story is pretty harsh man.

I mean, I knew lawyers were assholes but I thought they still might be considered human beings.

    9. "My Little Pony is a cartoon show. Those five words comprise all of my knowledge of My Little Pony, and I’m not even entirely sure if that is accurate." Sure, Games Informer. We believe you. Its not like somebody was twisting your arm into reporting about pony mod. You did it out of your own free will and not out of your hidden love of ponies.

    17. Fashion rainbow dash? Hahaha...No.

    18. I guess Mario got a new Yoshi.

I did that brony hatred survey.

And people, stop crying over a toy that is not targeted at you. Okay Rainbow Dash dresses in style or whatever. Girls love dressing things up, quit complaining.

Also Applejack strikes me as the one that doesn't 'dress in style'. Rainbow Dash at least agreed to dress up in Swarm of the Century. (Even if she thought it was boring.)

      ReplyDelete
    19. Gee. Hasbro's really taking a shit on us for that stylin' Rainbow Dash, huh?

      ReplyDelete
    20. I hear there's rumors on the internets that Rainbow Dash always dresses in style.

I'm picturing RD curled up crying in a corner somewhere. :p

Yes, it's been established many years ago that Rainbow Dash ALWAYS dresses in style.

    25. I'm beginning to think that Hasbro is just intentionally trolling us.

      ReplyDelete
    26. Why people hate (a rather big word in this context, id personally would keep it at dislike) bronies, is kinda a no-brainer. Look at why furries are disliked. There's your answer.

      ReplyDelete
    27. That poor artist. I wish I could help but I have no CC, no PayPal, and I don't have euros.

    30. As soon as I figure out how to mod, I'm turning the Skyrim dragons into those you see in the show. Or maybe give one a cutie mark.

      ReplyDelete
    31. Hey there. Long time lurker finally commenting.
For some reason, the survey struck a chord in me, and I spent a period of time between 3-and-7 A.M. typing out my thoughts, and may or may not have dozed off. Figured I'd repost them here. I'm excited to hear other thoughts on the subject.

      Cut and paste:

There are a few reasons. I'll start with the easiest one to point out: We're talking about a group of grown people who watch My Little Pony, a brand of cartoon that has for more than two decades been an inky black streak of vapid, soulless little girl toy-line marketing.

Clearly, in the case of FIM, this is no longer the case; but you'd be blind not to see where a stigma could sprout from that chasm of reputation.

Reason number two digs a bit deeper, into the fandom itself: Simply put, and perhaps too simply put, some of us like to draw, write, read and look at creepy things. Some of us are creepy people.

Stay with me, here, Bronies. What was your reflexive response to your first reading of "Cupcakes"? Or that time you stumbled upon a particularly unsettling bit of rule 34's seeming infallibility? I'd be willing to bet that it wasn't to bask in the newly found warm and fuzzy feeling they produced in you.
Seeing that side of the fandom makes people uncomfortable, creeps them out. Thus, we, as part of the fandom, are creepy.

Have I over simplified? I certainly think so. The reason for this is less simple, and I'm a blowhard, so bear with me.

The human mind likes to categorize things automatically. If it didn't, we'd have a Hell of a time discovering and rediscovering basic things like which things feel rough and which things feel soft every waking moment of our lives.
Let's say you, as a kid, shred your skin on a bed you decided to fashion from sandpaper. Your mind goes "Oh, my, that could have gone better. Better avoid sleeping on that stuff in the future." and into the "Rough" category goes sandpaper.
Alternatively, later on, you spend a night with your head on a pillow of a particular fiber or brand, and you love the way it feels. You look at the tag, and into the "Soft" category goes that pillow's make.

When a person's first exposure to this or any fandom is a particularly unpleasant one, into the "Avoid for Fear of Permanent Scarring" goes the fandom.

One of the many things the human mind likes to categorize is, of course, other human beings. In an example that I will say, politely, has been beaten to death twice, think of a person from your life as a highschooler. Preferably, one which you remember less than favorably. Was this kid "Popular"? "Unpopular"? A "Jock"? A "Goth"? A "Geek"?

Behold, a sampling of the archetypical high school categories. Remember them fondly, as simplifying your peers into something less than entire and unique human beings is part of what gave you the time and brainpower to skid your way through the education system.
For those you kept close company with, however, exceptions to the rule of category were likely found beneath your impression of each person, and you grew to truly like them for what set them apart. And so it is with many things. So it is with the fandom.

You need to dig. Withhold your judgement for a moment. Get to know it, get to know us. Find those exceptions. Love them.
When you do that, you grow as a person.

How many people do you know kind and worldly enough to do that for a bunch of creepy dudes who still watch My Little Pony?
      Oh, hello, mass hatred.

      ReplyDelete
    32. I would probably have considered trying to make it to the Chicago meetup (having missed the last two), but, erm...

It's an MLP-themed Furry meetup (Furfest 2011), not a normal, average brony meetup.

      ReplyDelete
    33. Hahha omg!!! This is so nice!
As they said on previous MLP..... "Rainbow Dash always dresses in style!" xD hahahaah I can't stop laughing hahaha. Poor guy I'll try to help him u.u
An MTY Meetup! D= Wow that's going to be interesting hehehe I'll check it out. And Games Informer.... they are just a bunch of Closet-Bronies XD

Having a brony voice concern over a meetup being a *furry* meetup, in the same thread where a survey about hate against bronies is posted.

    38. I can't wait for the TES:skyrim construction set to be made available. Maybe we can have all the humanoids replaced with MLP races

      ReplyDelete
    39. Nevermind that the spiders are the size of a pickup truck.

      ReplyDelete
    40. The reason for brony hate seems obvious to me.

      1. People fear what they don't understand.

      2. They don't understand grown men liking a cartoon intended for little girls.

      3. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate.

      ReplyDelete
    41. Ugh, Hate to write this. But is it hatred of the person, or of the thing. I am a Chiefs fan, but I get flak for it. To me "Bronydom" is a hobby, you stick out like a sore thumb in your professional life if you wear that Rainbow Dash T-Shirt, overly talk about it at work or not shut up about it. It is good to try to introduce people, but if they do not want to "Assimilate" its on them. I think calling it "Brony Hate" is nonsense, because Bronies are a hobby and you bring attention to yourself if you take it past the hobby level!

      ReplyDelete
    42. That ... dress? they put on Rainbow Dash. It looks like an upside-down sack with the bottom cut out. And those shoes! Ugh.

I started filling out that hatred "survey", but when I got to the point where I was about to provide links to anti-Brony drama I realized I would just be dragging a lot of fine people through the mud without their permission. And that's not cool.

@Unknown: Characterizing the entire pre-FiM MLP cartoon production as vapid and soulless is a wee bit harsh. It had its moments. Shoop doop be doop. And the cartoons are not the be all and end all of MLP history. There have been scores of artists modifying MLP toys into everything from comic book characters to creatures from horror movies to pimped out ponies of light and beauty. Hasbro even sells a blank pony for that very purpose. There is also 2D art and at least one very long running comic, Kimono's House. I'm sure that there has been a fair share of creepy and horrific MLP art during the last two decades, we don't own the copyright on that.

Rule 34 or similar arguments are not the reason some people may be repulsed at the idea that cartoon ponies could appeal to adults. People are haters because they have a simple worldview and they fight back when confronted by something that doesn't fit that view.

Fluttershy and Angel Bunny reinacting the Bambi and Thumper skating scene is so cute!

      ReplyDelete
    43. It's not just the simple fact that OUR Rainbow Dash is dressing in style. That ensemble would look out of date in any decade.

      ReplyDelete
    44. @Darkfoxx

Not liking something doesn't mean you hate it.

For example, I don't like furries. I still tolerant them though, and try to like them through their other characteristics.

      (I'm not that guy, btw)

      ReplyDelete
    45. That Rainbow Dash fashion costume is worse than her failed Gala dress... what were they thinking?

Oh... I guess they weren't. It appears that no thought goes into those toys...

      ReplyDelete
    46. Antagonism can be attributed to a few factors

      1. It's everywhere and people don't like it's being forced down their throat.

Granted it's more or less the fanatics that are guilty of this but they play a part

2.It's not normal therefore people will find a reason to hate.

A large number teens to Adults obsessing over show about 6 equine ponies isn't exactly what you hear about everyday

      3. Some say bronies tend to be intolerant of those who don't like the show but that usually only happens when people start getting personal about stuff. Though when someone says they dislike the show or the fanbase. One shouldn't go to their place and try and "burn the place down". Though all fandoms are guilty of this at one point in time or another. It's sometimes best to ignore what others are saying and continue with your life. I'm not saying people need to be doormats but there's a time and place.

4.People hate it because it's popular and the in thing. Minor factor but it's there.

      5. Furries

I don't have anything against them but the rep they carry is a factor.

      6. Crossovers
Don't really buy this here. Though I've seen some people get real upset just because of a crossover.

Not really a well worded list of mine but you get the gist.

      ReplyDelete
    47. Thank you so much for putting me in the news... Any help is welcome and I'm making pony commissions for those who like it T-T

    49. (Couldn't find an edit button).

      @frith

Thanks for taking the time to read that tangent.

I'm not about to argue with you about the merits of the pre-FIM show. It all goes down to opinion on that front.
However, my point was in the perception that the popular opinion casts on us.

And I'd like to clear up the fact that I didn't mean that the fandom of the new show had a monopoly on creepiness, only that it's more prevalent. Memetic.

Notice that Rule 34 was brought up in reason number two, as opposed to number one. But just because it isn't the primary factor doesn't mean it isn't a factor.

      Good looking out.
