The MLP Facebook page is releasing screencaps once again for the upcoming episode. I'll toss today's leak after the break to avoid spoilers for the faint of heart out there.
I'm almost certain that it will end up being a turtle or some other slow creature.
Rainbow Dash will learn a lesson that it's not about the fastest but it's the one with the best heart, and a turtle will probably save her life or something.
There will be no winner. Dash will proabably act all arrogant and get in trouble and will be saved by all four animals and he decides all four will be his friends instead pets.
Im going to say that the winner is some undisclosed animal that in not in that lineup. A tag-a-long if you will that is somehow going to win Dash's heart.
I agree with the general sentiment here... None of them seem likely, although the bat seems the most "designed" to be a part of the show out of all of them. The owl is too redundant (yay, Owlowicious! I don't know why I'm happy to see him back... just for continuity's sake, I suppose.) The other two birds don't look friendly/expressive enough. The bat looks pretty awesome, but I have a hard time imagining how that would work on the show.
I agree she'll likely end up with a completely contrary pet like a turtle or no pet at all.
As someone who is a huge RD fan, majoring in Ornithology, and a raptor rehabilitator, I am completely overcome with joy. I'm a bit partial to the falcon though, they are so much fun to work with.
@elldrian I think your fears are completely unfounded. No matter how likely it may look, the writers of the show would never let Angel eat another pe on air.
That rock to the left of RD's group is conspicuously placed. I bet that there's some underdog-type contestant hidden behind it, either to step out in a few seconds or the "camera" to pan up there so we can see.
I thought the bat was a flying squirrel at first glance. Either way, that's got my bet. The eagle and the falcon don't seem to fit, and, as has been stated, Twi's already got the owl.
Pony Pet Playdate! I'm kind of curious how that works, seeing how Wynonna seems to be the only pet that "plays". But it does answer the question of whether or not they actually call Angel and Owlowicious "pets".

Hooray for the return of Owlowscious and Winona! Also starring Gummy, Angel and Opal!
The pets need their own spinoff. Owlowscious is the brainy one like Twilight but he's a mute and can only say "Who?" Opal is the prissy, flaunty one, Winona is excitable and crazy, Angel is tough and stern, but has a heart of gold, and Gummy is Gummy.
My money is on the bat or falcon( if a pet is chosen). bat because it is the underdog. falcon because one: I like falcons, and two: that looks like a peregrine, fastest pet for the fastest pony.
Yeah, I love the brain-slug Gummy. Plus, more prehensile tail action from Applejack this time.
You know, I sympathize with some fans who don't like it, but I have to admit that Pinkie's enthusiastically oblivious insensitivity this season never fails to get a laugh out of me.
I was honestly hoping his appearance would be a one-episode deal, but if all the Season 2 episodes up to this point are any indication, there's still a good chance he won't be appearing very often at all in the long run. :D
Gotta say, the eagle and falcon look pretty awesome, bet they'd be a nice match for Rainbow Dash.
My money is on the bat, since Twilight already has an owl. As a person with an keen interest in Falconry I immediately set to work to identify that falcon. I'd put my money on it being a Lanner falcon, due to its colouring and the prominent fachial markings. It COULD be a juvenile peregrine but the 'moustache' on peregrines tend to be much broader and have less of a defined point, although it does look like that sometimes. I'd probably call it Larry.
Anyway, I'm even more stoked for this week's episode. Rainbow Dash AND raptors. WOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Theory: I think that Dash will not really like any of the pets but she'll be pressured to chose one to be like her friends, then realize that she doesn't need to succumb to peer pressure and just go on without a pet.
Baron Awesome, whatever, I want the bat to win! At least I think it's a bat... bats are cool! :D
Also, enough with the fucking Scootaloo/chicken jokes. Not to mention, lot of people are missing the issue of Scootaloo being a PET is not the same thing as adopting her as a sister...
@ Inkblupegasus: It depends on the species and the individual. Some owls are strictly nocturnal, others are diurnal and yet others still are crepuscular.
Especially in captivity the nocturnal owls can still be active. I've flown a barn and tawny owl in the middle of the day before.
I'm guessing the falcon will win, it looks pretty evil so i think it's gonna win like, halfway in to the episode, and then the rest of the episode will be about what a pain in the plot it is and they will have to get rid of it :P

If this is a test of speed, the falcon will win. The eagle is not as swift as a falcon and primarily soars with its larger wing span, though it can stay aloft in the air with less wingbeats than the falcon. The owl is a steady flier but lacking in the speed of the falcon. Not a big soarer like the eagle.
The bat is the dark horse, but it can turn on a dime with its echolocation abilities.
I see falcon as the clear winner, but I'm also a bat fan.
I'd put my money on it being a young Peregrine falcon. The eagle is a Bald Eagle, and if the eagle is an American species (due to being an American show), I'd suspect the falcon is an American species. The malar is too broad to be a Prairie Falcon or female Merlin, so young Peregrine seems about right. However, the Barbary Falcon, sometimes considered to be a subspecies of the Peregrine has a brownish look the the back plumage rather than the typical slaty-blue. Since is the US, I'm erring on young Peregrine.
Or just a made up Equestrian Falcon. This is the show that gave us Pink Jays, after all. Lot of raptor fans on here, good to see I'm not the only bird nerd :)
