How Equestria Was Made: The Flipbook

The Reddit pony group recently did a flipbook competition, and this is one of the stand-out submissions. That's a lot of paper right there! It could use some background music though.

Anyway, check it out after the break!

wow, lots of time was put into that, I bet. SO many flipbooks!

I saw this contest on the subreddit, and wow, this is far above and beyond what I was expecting.

LBlaze said...

That is just crazy. It must have taken so long to complete. So Canterlot just grew out of the mountain, huh? Interesting. :P

Roman500 said...

Wow kudos to you sir, I don't think I would have the patience to do that.

El Boufon said...

Pretty awesome I liked it. Very well done

Capn_Chryssalid said...

Yowza.
That's a lot of paper and a lot of time spent. Getting all that to line up on those post-it notes without removing them must've been such a pain!

MegaPatron said...

now that was amazing!

WizardShy said...

Really, really impressive. I'd like to see an animated version of it.

XyroTR1 said...

That is the coolest damn thing ever.

Kaijyuu said...

Well holy shit.

That was awesome.

Alan Solivan said...

And THAT'S

how Equestria was made.

Rainbow Smashly said...

That had to take a lot of focus and time! Beautiful artwork. Truly amazing. :)

Therizzen said...

Well, that was pretty awesome I must say, had to have taken a good amount of time, props to the creator!

Cameron said...

They say that it took all the trees in Everfree Forest for paper and the immortal patience of an alicorn just to create an epic of such magnitude... Jeez, no wonder Lauren quit!

rabid-turtle said...

makes you really appreciate old school aniimation

archiveit said...

WOW!

That is all I have to say.

Sandman said...

Holy Shit.
That was amazing and must have taken quite the time and effort.
*slow claps*
Bravo, bravo.

RavensDagger said...

His patience defies gravity!

noodlegirl88 said...

Yay! Magical sparkly stuff! Thanks guys, this makes me happy!

Applejack said...

He could have just animated it, but than it wouldn't have been even slightly as awesome.

Epidehl said...

That was amazing! Well made flipbooks always kind of astound me.

Harwick said...

Really quite impressive. Lauren Pony is the best pony.

kwj said...

DAMN!!!! that's amazing

Octavia said...

Haha, Lauren. :P

Wow. This is quite a large amount of paper they used to make that. Went through numerous pads. lol I love flipbooks. They're so cool. This one was made pretty well.

I saw this while listening to http://youtu.be/ZCk4RiKH9H0
It was.... simply and oddly fitting.

Wierdplatformer said...

I want to see an animated version of this, that would be cool.

Rita Lot said...

wow. that. was. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

captian muffins said...

Noo this is an outrage there are only two alicorns

qteammuscle said...

Hmmm... The only thing I want to know is how the Everfree forest was made. It is supposedly unnatural and something like that would not have been purposefully made...

DarcySupremest said...

Kinda obvious everybody already knows Faustacorn did it we just didn't know how

Wisdom Thumbs said...

I have no words...

...save for holyshitmybrain

Epic level flip-booking. I must see MORE.

SightlessOne said...

Dude, that is awesome. The amount of time it took for this must have been lengthy indeed.

Laytz94 said...

Holy jesus monkeys. That was impressive.

Sumica said...

Would love to see that changed to animation.

SonicRatchet said...

My words mean nothing to describe how fantastic that flip book is. That looks as close to animation besides, well, animating it.

Aynine said...

That was absolutely badass. It reminds me of the Sonic videos from Sonic CD and the movie for how fast paced parts of it are. Wonderful work.

jodyjm13 said...

Really impressive; even Lauren Faust said so. I just wish the animator had been more consistent in capturing the drawings on film as he flipped through the books; there were times when the top half of the drawings became hard or impossible to see while the pages were being flipped.

DashAttack said...

Framerate seems to suddenly drop really low at numerous points in this video.

In all seriousness, though, that was incredibly well done. That had to be remarkably tedious.

embergryphon said...

Wow. That was incredible! Seriously well done, artist- that must have taken tons of time and a lot of foresight to pull off!

8bitbleepbleep said...

Holy hell that is amazing

Master Smoulder said...

Wow, the awesomness of that is enough to ignore my nerd-conscience that tells my Ponyville was started by earthponies :P

Seriously, confound the limitations of paper, I want this as one big flpibock, now!

John said...

Whoa. That is so mad skill there.

greenie-pie said...

It would be so awesome to scan this page for page, to make an animation.

But that alone would take nearly as much time as making the flip book.

Good on you brony! Amazing job.

Mike said...

YAY UNCONVENTIONAL FANIMATION

Rohit Eligeti said...

That was nice....I could feel bg music running in my head while watching this....

DutchB said...

i was listening to Luna's Ruse (ft. haymaker) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&list=PLA02F733D3E46C0CA&v=-BjO2pXcqJI)
i found it quite fitting to this flipbook

Korls said...

i like the part with the "magic sparkling stuff"

MudPuppy said...

Finally! Was waiting for this epic-ness to show up on EqD right after Lauren commented about it on her deviantART page: http://comments.deviantart.com/4/1603670/2286086430 :D

Jordan said...

Now someone needs to scan each frame and put it into a video for an animation. Add music any maybe color and sound effects.

Abb_eliten said...

That's just insanely cool! :O

OH GREAT It said Office Max on the post-its SOPA send him to the moon for 5 years

The creation of everything reminded me A LOT of the style in The Neverhood. So I applaud this!
